Does anybody listen to music while they're coding that helps them concentrate?

My best two 'working' albums are Dedication by Thin Lizzy and Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds.

back in the day I needed absolute silence. now I can code with music on - when I am pissed or having trouble with something I tend to turn the music up, not down - very starnge for me. I usually just have on the radio (wxrk 92.3 fm NYC K-ROCK) I start early so Howard is still on then when he's over the music kicks in, oh and don't forget the

I listen to music to help me do other stuf, but I can't code. While writing I enjoy listening to Black Sabbath, Metallica, ACDC occasionally, Halford, and some Dokken. maybe I overdo a bit...

While I usually listen to The Offspring or System of a Down while doing homework, gaming, etc., I find it more comforting listening to my Final Fantasy 1-7 Midi collection in random order whilst Im coding

I've been playing a lot of Orbital lately. They did the music for Wipeout on the PS1.

Oribtal are old skool. I saw them live once with big bags of kit and baseball caps to the side. Kids of the 80s.

Basically, any drum'n'bass as evil as a rabid badger. Moving Shadow collections are the way forward. £1.99 - and quality stuff. Same label that released music for Rollcage.

Signature? No! Obsolete! These days it's all about chip and pin!

Moving shadow...yep I saw some vinyls in HMV. Mate of mine said they were good. And flibble, Prodigy = very good. New album 'always outnumbered, never outgunned' is due out in summer. Although I think the prodigy has lost its vibe. Theyve shifted towards moshy rock and its terrible.

i feel so out of place. every other game programmer i know listens to the kind of music you all say you do. i can't stand any of it.

When I code I try to stay away from the heavier music. I've got some classical, and even Enya. But when I'm doing anything else, I listen to FooFighters, Opeth, Greenday, Cake, Sistem of a Down, etc. Basicly anything but Linkin Park. I hate linkin park.

Can I see a demo now? [edit]Disregard, I saw the demo.

Ragnarok bgm when I code. I even replaced Morrowind's bgm with it because it's cooler. I only listen to music when doing fun parts of the code though. When the coding starts getting frustrating, I turn off the speakers. *silence*

Sometimes I like music, sometimes it just annoys me. Sometimes I use the tv to provide background noise/light.
Have a playlist of about 1000 songs consisting of stuff like afi, anti-flag, farse, germs, king prawn, link 80, mouthwash, nofx, refused, thought riot.

LSO, Rammstein, Alabama3 ... i should put that at the bottom of my work;
'produced in beat with Rammstein' hahaa

bloody good training music too, try to aim to keep the beats.
Drum & Base (stuff like Fallout produces)

it's amusing actually cause without music i can't model; so people i work with get some nice broader tastes in musics

I can't code in silence, it drives me to insanity. I usually just pick something random from Kazaa, I don't have a playlist so when something ends I just start something else manually.

I listen to music all the time. Coding, eating, using the <<Lavatory>> . My playlist is mostly Barenaked Ladies, Delerium and ALOT (in the most lots like sense of the word) of Jorane. I bet no one knows who that is, but she's still cool . Does anyone know who she is?

I like to use .mp3 CD's with about 140 tracks on them, like full collections of KoRn and Pearl Jam (I own the originals). I like the Queens of the Stoneage 'Songs for the Deaf' album, I can listen to that all day. I also listen to Pantera, Rollins Band, Static-X, Soundgarden, Limp Bizkit (Break Stuff rocks) - stuff like that.

Because techno sucks!

Hehe, I like The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers, Aphex Twin etc - groups that do techno in an original way - I can't stand that thump-thump-thump crud that idiots play too loudly in their cars. I have no time for the geezer breed of DJ's like Brandon Block.

I think it's whatever music get's you going, whatever kicks your brain into gear is good for coding to.

That song's called "One Last Breath".

I never really liked Aphex Twin as much as Polygon Window (One of his other aliases) and Squarepusher (his best friend, Tom Jenkinson)

If I really need to get something done then it's Muse - Time is Running Out or Hysteria.

I always listen to music while I code, except when I something extremely complex to figure out - then I need silence or really soft music.

Otherwise, I enjoy:

Grand Theft Auto 3 Music (MSX, RISE, Game Radio, LIPS)
Moby
The Monkees
Weird Al
SFC
DC Talk
Petra
PID
Newsboys
Time Life Hits of the 80's
Madonna
Dr. Demento
Tegan and Sara

I have over 4,000 MP3 files ... and they're all legal.
