Yea, I've been wondering if there's any girls programming in DB...y'know, I can't believe we're all men!...or it's that software programming isn't just for girls?

just wondering...

One thing you should know about programming. Girls and programming are mutually exclusive. They're like water and oil, chalk and cheese, ... programming and girls.

However, that doesn't mean that just because you're a programmer you can't get a girlfriend - you just need to lie and make up a different profession.

lol adr, some girls think designing games is cool. I've never had a problem with getting a girlfriend and they all know what I do. Just make sure you aren't overtly nerdy in any other ways

Oh and yeah there's been pleanty of women here in the past I know, I'm sure there are still some around. Traci did Equilibrium (awesome RPG demo). And asheron is...possibly female.

Why would you need to lie? Afterall, a five-year salary for a programmer is 90K per year, that isn't bad...

You are actually wrong adr, let me rephrase for you.

Hot girls and programming are mutually exclusive. They're like water and oil, chalk and cheese, ... programming and hot girls.

eh I don't think all of the guys on here have bad looking girlfriends (I think anyone on here would say mine is pretty hot). Just because we all ARE nerds doesn't mean we all LOOK like nerds.

Geeze, have some confidence guys!

Yes. Some of us piss in the face of convention. My girlfriend gives me the horn 24/7, and she's a 3D modeller/coder as part of her Computer Animation & Visualisation degree. Some of us are lucky!

As for the geekynessity. Yeah, when you're programming at home as a hobby, girls might look at you as a nerd. But as HZence said, when you're earning the big bucks, it's a different story - well, for the 75% of women that are gold diggers anyway (made up stat, based on the calibre of most of the women I've met). Once again, I'm quite lucky. I told my GF I was changing my hongkong modern kungfu setting for my game to sengokku japan ninjas, and she actually got excited and suggested shurikens and caltrops. How cool is that?

I'm a nerd at heart.

And I don't have a hot girlfriend. Mostly because there's more to a girl than looks.

In fact, I don't have one at all.

well whatever the reason behind this... i'm sick and tired of seeing this question on the forums;

this question is right up there with
'why are all programmers nerds?'
'why are all japanese better at artwork?'
and
'why are there no gays in programming?'

[rant]
quite frankly, i don't give a damn what is and isn't in programming... all that matters about it is getting things done.
bloody nerds and geeks piss me off royally, because all they ever do is ask dumbass questions and never actually get any REAL work done.

that is the exact reason you don't see any damn nerds who go on to do game programming professionally; they're about as creative as icepops ... most of them fizzle out into application programming which simply requires you to know what your doing, no offence to the non-nerd app programmers on here; but it's true.

this is probably also why 90% of the people on the boards like this are nerds, who seem to have an uncanny ability to remember stupid facts (much like women and they also use them in arguments and digs when it has no real relivance; again much like women :: shudders :

ya know another things that really peeves me off about nerds is how they find girls 'fascinating' ... i mean jesus what are you going to do if you ACTUALLY ever are lucky enough to get close enough without being spotted; study her like david attinbourgh or think the scene will turn into some porno. (believe me i've had it upto ->here<- with damn nerds trying to convince me some lass was giving them the eye in a way which ment she wanted him; you just know the closest they'll come to popping the cherry is through thier tv screen)
[/endrant]

sorry, but i've not had a moments peace all day from dumbass nerds, and i am about ready to kill them all if one so much as looks at me wrong.

i would like to refute the suggestion that cute girls and anime/programming/computers/gaming/etc. are mutually exclusive. i know several girls who are very into one or more of those things, and they are all quite attractive (and none of them are my girlfriend so i am not biased).

and i agree with raven, this a question asked far too many times.

Then don't read it! The title of this thread clearly states what it's about but yet you still feel compelled to enter here and whinge about how you hate these posts. No matter how much complaining you're going to do people aren't going to stop posting these type of threads. So just save it. You also have a VERY stereotypical view of 'nerds' and you then go on to say that 90% of people on these forums are nerds, which seems quite contradictory to the way you describe nerds as very little of the people here even fit that description.

I watched Revenge of the Nerds a few weeks ago on TV. Everything was stereotyped, from nerds to cheerleaders to jocks to Japanese. It's very annoying when people plug stereotypes like that on people. I'm 50% Chinese and I definitely do not speak English as if I had a clip on my nose.
