Well go back and read my first post on this and you will see it.But, so you don't have to go looking i will post a quote on it:
Quote: "And sorry even though i would like to help, i started off making 3d games and i am not too good at 2d"

And there you have it.The thing is, whomever said that there werent any DBC multiplayer commands was wrong. I can think of a lot of commands dealing with multi-player. Anyway, one planet would be easier than many and for each one, yeah you could make different time periods. And if you need media go to [href]www.3dcafe.com[/href] for free media.

Ok thanks, alot of the 3D cafe isn't free, but I'll make use of it as much I can.

Anymore suggestions on what you people want to see in a MMORPG? If not, then lets start talking about the preliminary approach to this. Whats the best way to tackle the game and get the ball rolling.

Timetravel, I love Timetravel, especially when you can change the future (like in Cronos Trigger)

That had to be one of the best RPG's I've ever played. Seems kind of hard though with a MMORPG.

I would love it, that you would refer to popuplar movies and series in a humourous way.

Examples :
- The Time-machine shall be a Delorean
- Music from "jaws" at the sea
- coast-guard with red swimsuits
- A ranch shall be called "Ponderosa"
- There would be a paradise Island, where Mr. Roarke is the host, always accompagnied by a little buddy called Tatu.
- A black speaking car, that can Jump
- A hologram called Al, who gives you advices
- A kingdom, where the king is married to an evil witch
- An old japanese karate-teacher
- A big Ship
- Icebergs !!!
- ...

- Mind the gap -

I know you said you suck at 3d but 3d would probably be a better decision for this type of game!

@the dude guy:yeah it would. But it depends on what the team or lead feels comfortable with.

@stradigos:yeas timetravel would be hard but not impossible.Of course it might take awhile. but you could probably compress code into functions (Large amounts of code) although might not be the best idea. Also, a lot of weapons and creatures and all that good stuff.

I saw this post and i had a couple of idea's for yer game:

- Timetravel is a good idea, but keep it simple. Build a few periods (like roman empire, medieval, the world war I & II, the current time, the future) .... you just log in on one of these periods and rock around

- Trading of course is a good idea, but you might had that idea already, lol

And some coding tips:
- Try to send as few as possible commands over the internet to the other players... and let the pc itself do the work. Example: The movement of a player: you can send a signal each time with the player positions and rotations etc or , wich is much better, send the target position/rotation and the starting rotation/positions and of course the movement speed. Then the computer calculates the movement/position/rotation, wich is MUCH more efficient. Hope u get it

errr... maybe i'll post again later 'cause my girlfriend is waiting lol so see ya guys later!

Yea I don't know if i'm going to do time travel between nations or make it so you can log into to different servers. It depends I guess because, well, do the servers cost anything?

Thanks for the coding tips, I'm absorb then like crazy .

well it depends on if you make enough money with the game to get your own server, or if you can find a free one or one that will allow you enough space to save and reload then that would be good. But the users computer is the one that does all of the thinking and saving o' the files and ai.Not the server normaly (i think).

You could make it so that there are different gods that control different things for each part of the world (i.e:underworld=osiris or something like that).
Then you could make it so that they are constantly trying to stop you from doing a certain task.

P.S.I now have forums that we can talk on.And stradigos, you might want to check yours every once and awhile.

Hmmm. What is it with everyone and Gods! Geesh. I might have some supreme ruler like a King as an Admin for that nation so if a player is "misbehaving" wack right upside the head with a keystroke. Lol, keep the ideas coming

I want to try to stay away setting the tasks. I want to approach it so the player engages his own tasks at his or her will.

yea i defiently want creatures in my game. I was reading a development manual the other day and it talked about using real animals to create new ones. Like making a poisionus {er h/e you spell it} creatures have a the marking of a poisionus spider or reptile.

All of you: great ideas!

Stradigos: Your game idea is really cool! And i agree, what's with everyone and gods!! Who's been playing Black & White all day, geez! I think a modern-day RPG would be awesome, where you start out with X money as just a random guy in a GIGANTIC "virtual nation". I like the RPG format because you can do anything you really want, within reason. For instance, you start a Buisness. Join the Mafia. Become a olympic contestant. Every week or so, you can code random events that happen in the world (for instance, it's Semtember 11. What does your character do?) ETC. I like the idea of a MMORPG that is not completely random quests and underhanded killing sprees. Also, your 1800s idea is interesting- - never been done! By all means, create this game, and I would love to help! Email me!!

I hope it is in FPS as thatwould be really cool if it was 3d and in the first person with a thrid person camera, I think though you might DBP but one in DBC would be good.

You would need though qute a few camera views like a God Camera first Person Viewa nd a Third Person View.

Also be nice to have some type of inventory system for weapons, food, maps e.t.c.

yes, if it's 3D it will be, and it probably will be in 3d. There it is again, the word God. Not to sure what you mean by God Camera first person view... but ok. And yes, inventory systems are a must.

God camera view=A camera view above the player or players of a game. I think thats it. And yes it really does need an inventory system or systems. Also, when you or we or whatever, when coding starts maybe somebody should make a website or helpsite for it. That way, when the coding for the game is done there will be a help site to get people started out.

Well, the first 2 weeks have been good for me. Not too much homework but a little here and there. The only time i can get on in school is Business Concepts. Although nI do believe that I'm supposed to get quite a bit of Home work in about a week. Hey I think I have something new, Customizeable settings and user profiles. That way, the player can make their own characters and all that stuff.

Sorry way too many post to read this late at night so i hope i dont repeat some ideas already posted....

Here is what i would play:

a team based game (seems like DAoC was the only game that got it right)

The planet is broken into different factions (nations)starting whatever era, doesnt matter at this point.

each nation is working towards developing thier nation which in turn would provide significant bonuses to stats, skills, braging rights, etc...

to develop a nation would require a team effort of many differnt skills; you mentioned plumber police criminals etc...all of which could be incorporated into the game to have some benefical trait towards the higher goal...

Instead of pvp you could implement NVN

Aquiring territory by assualting your enemies land holding could be fun when not too interested in turning a monkey wrench...

More territory = increase in township rating thus in turn faster progression of nation

I could really run with this, but it may be in a different direction then you intended so if your interested in hearing more ideas let me know

Territorial take over. Gotta love that idea. But if a nation did expand that could lead into like a sequal or something depending on who wins (i.e. a country takes over surrounding countries and starts a world war). That way all the user would have to do would type in the name of the country that won and it would calculate statistics off of the web if you save it there. After it calculates all that, it could go to some alternate beginning in the next game.

Very nice idea, I'll help in whatever way is needed. Check my MSN and we can chat about it.

As for ideas, Timetravel=Good

I just saw an old movie called Westworld with sortof the same idea you have. It was about these nations people had created for getaways. All characters were robots except for the civilians. They had 3 worlds Western, Roman, and Medieval. You could kill everyone except civilians and blahblah. Eventually after getting killed over and over the machines started getting smarter and actually disobeying they're programming. It was a really weird movie but you could implement some of the things.

I think it could be cool if you also had a realm for after you die, not exactly heaven, but a place where you could kill people still alive(grim reaper type thing) and eventually come back in a different body (reincarnation type of stuff).

Bullet time battling would be cool too.

Territorial take over... hmmm. I think that will happen on less of an official notice. Not like in RTS games where you are notified or can see your ememy takeing over your base or country. Lol, that reminds me: All your base are belong to us! lol. Whats the name of that game by the way thats from? I want to check it out and laugh some more. And Rennekon do you have an AIM account or Email? I just got ride of MSN Messagener because of some problems with it.

Quote: "FPS"
Maybe you could make it a FPS. That would be hard for the user to see if theres anything coming from behind and that in itself would make it harder. Some type of "underworld" or "heaven" type of thing (I.E. you go into the underworld and there arte a lot of hideous and gruesome things going on).
