Hi guys,

I may have made a post or two about this before when it was in early planning stages... I'm planning on hosting a DarkBASIC convention, of sorts, some flexible time from late October to November. It would be somewhere in Manchester, New Hampshire.

Unless I find a much cheaper conference center, it's probably just going to be in a hotel room or something along those lines large enough to host everyone who's interested in coming.

There would be an attendance fee along the lines of twenty to thirty dollars. I'm planning on the official event lasting two days, although, of course, if enough people wanted to stay longer/after event hours, said people could hang out in the area. Naturally that fee does not include food or accomidations.

I live right around where the convention will be hosted so I think that if I can get enough names on the attendance list, this is far less likely of falling through than the LLRGT convention. I will however need a decent number of interested people before I can move on to more concrete plans.

Since this is going to be a small event, the days and hours can hopefuly be worked out to fit everyone's schedule fairly well .

I'm hoping we can work out some presentations and perhaps a competition, although I'm expecting most people will just want to show up to meet other DB-ers. If someone can supply the right equipment, we could organize a LAN party.

TGC has also mentioned they might be able to send one of their folks over here to meet us all, but like the rest of the plans that's not concrete, and though I haven't talked to Rich/Rick about it yet, I expect they'd want a certain amount of attendance to consider being here.

Please post here if you're interested in showing up. I'm not looking for oaths written in blood, so don't feel like you're absolutely commiting to it.

Since I live here I can also answer any questions you have about the area.

Also note that while this is a DB convention, I won't expect you to have to be a current DB coder... it's fine if you're a small game developer otherwise, or just a forumgoer

Thank you

I am definitely interested in it, but it is too far in the future to know if I can get off work for it. I am a maintenance technician and my hours are not set. Will let you know for sure when more details arrive.

Where exactly is NH?

Checking Google maps for distance.

!! 5,221kms away

http://maps.google.ca/maps?q=vancouver,+bc,+canada+to+manchester,+new+hampshire,+usa&ll=45.375000,-97.216029&spn=45.687500,80.511950&hl=en

That would be a fun drive, but I'll have to see how my holidays are scheduled this year...

I was hoping to organize webcam chat between the two conventions, but Mnem informed me the UK one wouldn't have internet access, so that's when I decided the date would be flexible...

I'm fairly certain I will be able to attend. I'm not sure exactly what transportation method I'll use. Plane Tickets from NY shouldn't be much though.

Count me in!

I can provide a cisco switch, Wireless Ap, cables, projector for demos...

A projector would be above and beyond awesome, as most places charge an arm and a leg to rent theirs, and as I'm sure you know they're not cheap . If I can line some showcases or presentations, it'd be put to good use.

Thanks!

Yeah, but right now I am driving a not so dependable car. Perhaps I'll rent one. Flying is cool, but with all those electronics I might just find myself in Guantanamo Bay.

I went to pull up a map at mapquest, and everything looked weird. Then I realized I was looking at Newhampshire, Ohio. Would have been a pretty lonely convention.

I am soo there! You can put me down as a "definitely" (pending schedule of course).

Mouse, if you need anything (equipment, lecture topics, funds, etc.) talk to me. I'm currently an officer of the University of Massachusetts - Amherst's game development club and both I and the former club president and vice-president went to the first stateside DBPro convention back when RGT was around so if you need supplies we could probably provide some. Just email me.

Ok, the chances of me going to this convention rely on the answer to this VERY important question:

On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate the hotness of the women of New Hampshire? 1 being mildly hot and 10 being spawn of Matt Damon & Lexa Doig hot.

Matt, I'd be more worried about CattleRustler if I was you. Pardner.

thats excactly what happened with my mum, eventually she let me go.

when i said "lee bember and mike said they might give me a lift" she said "what and they're gonna drive straight there"

i replied "no mum, they're gonna drop me off at Worcester to sell me to some vampires"

mum believed me, i had to promise her i was being sarcastic.

then she heard me and mnem talking on skype, so i said loudly "i might not be able to come, mum thinks you're a paedophile" and he replied "thats cos i am" then mum realised how much she was actually having the p1ss taken out of her and let me go

I'm deeply afraid of this idea of having a webcam link to the US con. I personally suspect that all the Americans are pig ugly, and I particularly address that remark to Jimmy and Cattle. The last thing I want to do is regurgitate my lunch from having to look at them all.

Therefore, I propose the following:

1. we lie and deny that the UK con has any web access; or
2. we require all the Americans to wear brown paper bags on their heads.

This idea for a US Convention is silly. You should all come across to the English one instead. Not only is Chichester conveniently cited in the Orion western spiral arm of the Milky Way galaxy, but you'd also be allowed to come home to the mother country after over two centuries of sulking.
