Net Yaroze games on Official UK PSM - they ruled! I loved them, I get all nostalgic thinking about them...

It costed £300 at release if I remember, but it was like 1999 and you needed a PC, phone line, internet, TV etc... as well as the Net Yaroze stuff itself. I didn't have all of that stuff, not by a long shot - otherwise I'd love to have saved up pocket money for it or got a sunday job or something.

It's a lot harder than you think. The 360 doesn't resemble PC architecture as much as the original Xbox did. There are many design concerns you have to take into account that you wouldn't with PC--- it's not easy unless you're porting another game from a different next-gen system.

how about this>?

What if.....wait for it....what if TGC was to become a virtual website? Like a computer game building/complex that you could walk around online using your character and talk to anyone else that you come across. Like I could be walking through the web building on my way to the virtual TGC download centre and I might bump into Jeku's charcter and you could stop talk 'face-to-face'. Then we spot Van B on the warpath and leg it in the other direction and hide.

The building would have everything that the website has now only it would be virtually realised. So there would be a TGC shop that you could actually walk around, a gallery/archive where all complete games made in DB were kept.

It could be just like any MMOG and TGC could even sell rooms to users for work or self-promotion space.

What about a small deathmatch arena somewhere in there too?(just for fun).

And what better place to create such a unique website than right here at The Game Creators!?

to me it seems like a natural progression in web site evolution. So maybe in about 3 to 5 years I hope this would be the case.

That would totally happen.
People already did that with chat programs, makes sense to extend it to full websites. You can go find the "TGC Library Building" to find the binary moon tuts.
Then extend it to other shopping places. It is possible to buy clothes online, but of course you don't get to try them on. You could pay (or if technology develops step inside a big scanning thing) and get a 3d recreation of yourself that can try on clothes. I know my friend's sister would love this, she could shop and play Sims 2.
If you wanted to get a car you could test drive it on Nissan or whoever's website with accurate phsyics modelling and a Gran Turismo style setup, or maybe just burn to a memory stick that you can plug into your current car and the windshield turns into a videoscreen and puts forfeedback into the pedals, gear, and wheel.

We had something very similar on the atari when the web was younger... wasnt a vast world but was very impressive for the time, you logged in, picked a bot(your avatar basically) and bummbled around an issometric town, it was a far cry from having to know the numerical address just to communicate across the web you could wander up to someone, click return and start chatting, your email could be handled via the post office and there was a little centre for playing net games.
Can't for the life of me remember the name of it now...i'll try and find it, its a funny wander back through time !

I think it's definatly the future and I'd love to know the name of the atari version.

perhaps we should just make one?

start by making a simple TPS or FPS engine;
add all the pretty stuff;
make it interactable with the website;
and finally impliment the multiuser part.

I imagine the hardest part would be linking the virtual world with internet in harmony. RobK could help with that perhaps.

WOW those angles are quite startling! See, we could do all this ourselves im sure we could. We could be the first ones! No...the second ones. But the first modern ones at least.

All we need to start is a couple of king-size posts from the moderators telling us that it'll never work!
