Same problem here, I was afraid to ask in case a topic had already been raised, had 600 replies and was on page 2 already.

The main-man is really busy these days with college I think, so it's anyones guess when it'll be back up.

I'm guessing Becky has already had about 1000 fags in desperation .

LLRGT has more down time than a hooker on the job.
We should have a sticked "Where has LLRGT gone?" thread.

Yeah, I didn't want to post at first, but I have a new provider, so I was not sure if it was my connection.

Las says that Danny forgot to renew the domain, and said he's looking to purchase it (of course, if you're reading this Las, correct me if I'm wrong).

If the Domain did get cancelled it will only be 2 or 3 days max for the site to come back online now that the Domain has been registered again, and even less time for some areas.

This is getting ridiculous.

One single person who is available needs to take control of the community. We go from one host to another who is always away, although it may not be their fault and nothing can be done about their situation we do need someone to put in a long term investment.

LLRGT is easier to keep up with. Plus it would mean having to build up a reputation again if I moved to here.

Yay, remembered my login after a few tries

The problem with this board exept that there are too many new users around is that it is mainly Dark Basic oriented and I'm not much into DB at the moment. At LLRGT anyone can post about all their projects no matter what language/software it's developed in. In this forum there's just a single board for this.

I don't get your point, we have a Programming General board too.
Honestly don't care either way which people prefer, just I am personally getting a little tired of constantly seeing.

"Is LLRGT down again?" posts. Seriously, either let it die or have someone who can commit the time, and resources in to keeping it going.

I don't know why you don't ask Rich to setup a second forum for you guys. It's not like TGC is going anywhere, and the bandwidth difference would be minimal considering most of you checkout this forum anyways (even if you don't actually post).

I wouldn't know. I don't bother you people.
All I've ever heard from bloody RGT users is bitching whenever they come here. Somehow we're all suppose to be nice and curtious about it as well, seeing as the poor (LL)RGT is down again.

Boo-freaking-hoo. This is like when tornado hits someones house and all you hear is how it's destroyed thier lively hood. Fair enough the first few times you might feel sorry for them, but FGS if they're going to rebuild thier house in "Tornado Alley" (THE CLUE IS IN THE NAME) they should... I dunno expect tornados!

Seriously, you could atleast have someone put up a temp forum where you can sit around bitching about things all day. Hell half of you own damn domains and hosting; it's not like you don't have the resources.

I always bitch, but then I'm actually an active member, and I'm not only using this forum to sit there to pick holes in other users or because another forum went down.

As such I feel that I'm well within my rights to bitch about the whineing and whinging that goes on from RGT users everytime something else happens to thier precious forums.. almost a bloody monthly event.

Still want to know how much longer suppose to give you people the 'benefit of the doubt' conserning how you act here. Cause it's been 2years and attitudes still haven't changed.

As youve said yourself Raven, If you dont like a thread then stay out of it. If you have a problem with people from other communities then Im afraid that is YOUR problem, probably a lack of social integration as a kid or something.

Quote: "Still want to know how much longer suppose to give you people"

You dont realise that you are fabricating some 'great divide', do you?. Perhaps your rejection from LLRGT has left you with some serious mental issues that you should resolve

Please give me one example of where we've whined on this thread. You're the only one complaining. And don't say Josh is complaining - he's making a valid point. We need a new host; Danny doesn't seem reliable enough.

Secondly, LLRGT hasn't gone down in a rather long time. I know because I can't remember the last time I've had to bear your posts.

"when it's done" means "we have no idea, we forgot to do that; we were hoping you would all forget we promised <insert exotic promise here>"

Another good thing about LLRGT is that rude posts are not allowed...

(gimme that rolleyes damit, I don't want a "cheeky" one either =P (can't belive how you can have a forum without a propper thounge smiley (and I don't mean one that says "slurp") and no wink either what I can se) at least there is a big grin )

I like LLRGT, but it's seruiusly slow, there's nothing worse than waiting all day for enough posts to be made to make a visit actually worthwhile. The thing about it is that forget how many members it's got - there's like 12 members doing 95% of the posting!, luckily it's the cleverest members, but it's not really enough.

I hope some of the die-hard RGT'ers sign up here, because their input would be welcome in places like 3D Chat, Game Design Theory, places that are language irrelevant but could do with more educated opinions. I mostly miss the 3D forum from the early days before Apollo, the 3D chat in RGT is kinda non-existant these days.

Why doesn't another LLRGT regular start up his/her own forum and call it LLLLRGT or something? How much work would that take? It's not like it was a custom forum or anything, was it?

I have scatloads of bandwidth and server space that's been unused for years that I could lend if need be.

That's what they did the last time though, and it's gotten them nothing but headaches. Fair enough people get busy, have less time to themselves etc, but in that case the RGT Torch should be passed to someone with the time to invest in paying the damn bill!.

Not dissing Danny here, but really people are relying on him for their forum and it's all gone pear shaped again, for like the 6th time, I hope he get's it up an running again.

Another domain move will kill LLRGT though.

Someone just buy the RealGameTools domain again. A .net for 2years is what $10-15, I'm sure someone of you has spare space on your hosts. The package I have I've got 4GB free, and 2 unique databases. It's not like packages these days are desperately expensive.

If someone set up the forum and put up a small donation box, I'm sure that if people *really* wanted to keep it going they would pay thier busfair and enjoy the forum. Thus keeping the forum alive.
You need someoen who can put the time and effort in to keeping something running though.

Sitting around a thread bitching isn't going to help anything.
It's stupid you always get people going "Oh something must be done!"... Well get off your fat arse and bloody do something then!

Think it's stupid that someone who doesn't even really visit the forum is the one person offering to help out. Seriously if this is what all of you think of your forum, then why the heck don't you just let it die.

Raven,
The only reason that you have a problem with "Is LLRGT down again?" threads is because one of the main reasons that people stayed at RGT instead of moving here was because of the Raven-free atmosphere. You are the only one here that is complaining. So if you don't want to hear complaining, then simply exit this thread. Then no one else will have to hear it either.
There have been quite a few times that I have attempted to log into these forums and they have been down. Granted, not for very long, but down nonetheless. This is maybe the second or third time this year that it has gone down. Not bad considering the lack of maintenance.
With that all said, I do agree that someone else hosting the forums would be a good idea. Another name change would be hard, but if the members of LLRGT are willing to do that, I'd consider hosting it under my domain (www.GameToolshed.com) and costs.

I am trying to do something. But it takes time, especially when I'm in full time education AND amazingly I have a social life. I expect my site to be in BETA by April 2006, that is my goal but it can only happen if I get the help I need when I ask for it.

I've had to put promoting my web hosting services for Indie Developers on hold because I need the funds to develop this new site.

In the mean time what we have will have to do.

I remember when we had the big forum move around here a few years ago, so I joined there for a while. I really liked it (was quite a while if I remember rightly), but when the forums were sorted out here there was some sort of muck up and I mistranslated a post to mean everything had moved here (the original link to RGT didn't work) and RGT was closed. Didn't realise until like 6 months later that it was still running. And then I went into hibernation. Doh.

Speak up about what? There is no issue except the one that you have.

Quote: "I still don't understand why you don't all fall back to the underware design "I hate Raven" glee club. Leave everyone here in peace."

Have you read through it? You provide some real entertainment. I've had some serious laughs thanks to that "glee club". And what to you mean leave "everyone" here in peace. You are the one on the offensive. I don't see anyone from the RGT forums starting any problems here. The only "problem" is the one that you are trying to create in this thread. Follow your own advice and be on your merry way.

As for RGT in it's current form, even if the domain is resurrected, its really been sliding close to the flat lining for some time now. If there's a significant break, it's going to be an even more difficult situation to revive it.

They (the current admins) really lack that close affiliation with any of the supported dev languages from the days of old. While there's still new users signing up fairly regularly, but it would seem their mostly curious by standers. Which is a pity.

sigh... i miss the glory days.

My problem here is the tendency to see the same threads again and again. N00bs don't read the stickys, they don't think that maybe they're not the first to ask a question, and of course, you've got the odd arrogant person that thinks they own the place.

TGC need a proper set of FAQs that answer all the questions that n00bs might have, i could start one on 3D, but of course, they wouldn't read it.

I should of course say, i don't really have anything against newbies, its just when every other day there's a post in the 3D forum asking which 3d modeller they should 'buy'... it wears me down after a while.

Didn't Amiga translate as girlfriend? Sorry, was an ST kid, and couldn't resist the dig.

Oh, and to the person saying the ST was better with 1 extra Mhz; I think it was more like 0.9Mhz. And it didn't matter in the vast majority of games because of the dedicated chips the Amiga had (and the ST didn't). You know, hardware scrolling, blitter etc. Still, we had the edge in things like wireframe 3D games (cos of the extra processing power), although I think in the end they got the blitter to readdress the balance in this area too (clever mucking around to make it process something rather than sprites 'n stuff). See, I can now say these things without any problem nowadays ........ hmmmm... ST still kicked it's arse though...
