Ah, thanks Bizar Guy for letting me know!
Was afraid that my optimization efforts made it worse for some people..

Seems to hang together a bit better now.

A few small bugs for you to think about fixing;

There is a way to gain a good advantage on starting a game. If you lose all your lives except for last life and then crash into a rock when a yellow power-up is on screen ready to be collected, it will be in that position when you start new game, meaning you can easily start a new game with a superduper shield. You need to properly delete and powerups remaining when game is over!

Another small glitch. Played a few games on on a couple of occasions there was sometimes a rogue spinner graphic left on screen which scrolled with you all the way through rest of level. Looks lke when it was killed it also flashed around the screen a bit.

I haven't got the old version on my hard disk anymore but I'm sure the aliens purple diamond bullets moved a lot better. They seem too static and don't rotate or anything.

Thats' all for now. Game is coming along great!

Boo!

Much improved. Enemy bullets are a lot better.

Had a few goes over last few days but everytime I get onto online high score table it has wiped out my previous scores! Looks like a bit of a bug to me, unless you are only allowing one score per ip address or something similar to stop same person filling up entire table with their name.

Boo!

Thanks Spooky,

You're right about the bug in the highscore list! If you inserted a new score in the top 9, only the scores up to position 9 were shifted down not the rest of the list, which caused the scores in the middle to disappear..

Anyway, I'll put a new build online tonight

Level one is too hard now. Can you make it easier because it is the first level. I can't even get to the second level.

It's been here a while but I've on just got round to playing it. It's VERY impressive. Arcade games don't live in the past they are the future! So much more fun than the endless FPS clones.

Sadly, on my third play I got an error

Array does not exist or subscript out of bounds at line 4309

I had just started the game and was shooting at the thrid column of aliens when I got the error. I haven't been able to replicate it though.

Great game! It takes a 3.0 ghz processor? It shouldn't have to. I have a geforce 6600, and it slows down sometimes to 45 fps from 60 fps. You might want to fix some stuff!

But otherwise...great! I made it to second to last on the list. Thos other guys must of cheated...there is no way!

It's easily the most addictive game ever created in DarkBasic.
You must finish it and sell it.

Working on.

It didnt actualy disconnect my ADSL, but i found out it messed up my router when it crashed but can be fixed by resetting the router/modem ( switch off and on again)

I'm sorry tiffer, but I have absolutely no idea how to fix anything related to the internet connecting because I simply use some standard DB commands to connect.

Hey all!

I've put a new version on http://www.kaisertal.com for download.

Kaisertal is now playable in Co-operative mode, meaning you can play with a friend on 1 PC (using a controller and keyboard).

Looking forward to receive your feedback!

Wow. I forgot about this. Very fun! I really like it. I just suggest to make the player's speed faster, please. Even without the speed powerup, it should be faster than that.

Good job!

Neat game, today was the first time I played it. I did run into one problem where an explosion went off when I died, and the explosion sound looped through the next game, and eventually died with an error about an array being out of bounds or something. I played it 2 or 3 more times and it seemed to work pretty well, however I did respawn inside an asteroid like others had mentioned, I thought that was fixed in some version prior to 14?

Anyways, some of the best work I have seen in DBP yet! keep it up!

Thanks for your feedback Alquerian!

You're right about those couple of bugs, I occasionally run into them myself but I haven't been able to fix them entirely (when you see Error in line 5332 and work with source includes it's really hard to debug properly).

I know it is! It would be nice to have a more informative error description, so if it says it cant load a specified object, what the damn name of the object is that it is trying to load, not just the line number . T'would be nice.

Looks very nice. Runs really smooth on my system. I have an athlon 64 3500+ and a 7800GT so obviously my system is no slouch, but still very nice. Not sure if this is just on my system (I'm using default settings for the card) but it is so dark I couldn't actually see the asteroids (I think) very well and died on them without noticing they were there. This could be just on my system, but a little more light wouldn't hurt...

You're right DVader, the game is too dark on most monitors, but not on mine ofcourse

In the new build I've added a Gamma setting to the Options menu. That way people can change the brightness (if their videocard supports it)

DVader- I tested the game on multiple computers and the game was too dark on all of them, so i've upped the brightness and contrast of all textures about 30% !

The new build is ready for download:

Got the new version now. Tried it but for some reason although I got about 25000 I didn't get an option to put my name on the board. I also got this error when shooting something on the second run of the game on level 1.

Runtime error 118 - array does not exist or array out of bounds at line 4680

Looking good apart from that. Oh I wonder, do you mean to slow the ship down if you hold down fire? I'm not sure if this is an attempt to make the game harder, or just an oversight. Not sure I like it though, it can be offputting when you speed up by such a large amount after a speedup. Perhaps you should affect both speeds when you get the power up. I also noticed you have a bug on the end boss where the graphics for hitting it keep working after it swoops away. You might want to sort that.

Oh one more thing, if you want to sell this I would suggest a little tweaking on the menu. I noticed you can use a pad on some screens and select options, then on the next you can move around the options, but can only select with the ctrl key. You should fix that. I would also make the options only work with a pad if it is a selected controller. I had a couple of goes where I started the game without changing to joypad. I was using the pad and it started off player 2 (i think, or some cool cheat! or cool bug ) So the pad worked but when the first player died my game was over. Not sure if I was taking damage there either would have to try again to check.

All in all looking buffed and lean. Just the normal bugs that can creep into any large game.

Oh and I got 25000+ !! No high score Maybe some bug there too. It did ask me to connect and when I clicked yes it just went back to the menu. I'll try again might have been me, you never know. Might have been my net connection too. It can disconnect an annoying amount of times sometimes.

Edit - Worked on scoreboard this time but only 17000 I think. I died trying to get as many points as possible quickly Never realised there would be a time limit first go. Thought It would just end on a certain level. One thing I also notice is the button config of the joystick seems odd. My main fire button is button c, button a does nothing. Seems backwards for some reason. Didn't notice a redefine option but I really would change that myself. Not many (or any) games I have ever played use this config for the joypad. just a thought, a personal opinion of course.

Good luck finishing it!

Thanks for your feedback DVader!!

The new build is almost ready and most of these issues have been fixed

It took me some time to get the joypad config working properly in the menu's but I totaly agree that it was pretty bad.
