Heyia,

some people might remember my world editing tool for DarkBASIC, some might not (people registered in 2005).

well the thing is, i have yet another release of this program. this release is called This is a map editor v2.02 ALPHA

which means it is a test version of v2.02.
i have had this version on my computer for a very very long time, so i though, hmm why not release this one too? and here it is.

there are thousands of bugs fixed, and the code is cleaned so it will be much much easier to continue develop this baby

version 2.02 is a GIGANTIC update. both code and program related. the program has grown almost 10mb in size!

here are some downloads in case you feel like trying it out.

TIAME v2.02 Alpha - 12'185kb [rar]
TIAME v2.01c - 3'845 [zip]
TIAME v2.00 - 3'124kb [zip]
TIAME v1.22 - 3'578kb [zip]

the world editor supports following file formats:

not all of these work 100% though

there are 3 examples with the demo:
* how to load your world in db
* basic movement in the world
* a fps game engine with your created world

im not sure there is much left to say

if you find ANY bugs, ANY AT ALL, then would you please post them here, (or on my forum), so i can get a chanse to fix them and improve the program.

when i feel it is finished, i will release the source too

thanks to Freddix that is he wrote it. it is a free GUI plugin for DarkBasic and DarkBasic Pro. i use the same gui in my level editor im writing for Zombie Hunter

freddix Gui Plugin is so great! i fancy the way he made all of that in pure DBC code!!

edit,
also the pictures on the buttons, some of them are copies from 3dsmax, guitar pro 4, painshop pro 7 and paint hehe.. my 2d art sucks, so i had to borrow some nice looking art for a while.. i never got the chance to draw my own

if you mean Terrain Terrain.

tiame features:
matrix terrain (.mdf, .mwdb, dbc matrix) and object terrain (.x).

collision to object terrains are really buggy. if i remember correct there is no collision to those terrains at all.

This is nice,Lukas. I love the you can travel the editor freely and not stuck from 1 angel. I mean, you can move about via arrow keys and from all angels. I find way too many editors are a pain in the a** to negotiate.

I'll use it when its for DBP

cool, thanks

when i started with this editor (over a year ago ) i wanted to make an editor that could do anything. in dbc that is. still after 1 year of development the editor is like half way there

when i finish zombie hunter: dbp, i will see if i can get some free time to convert it to dbpro code. now that i think about it, its like dbp to dbc ratio is 60:1 or something

ummm.. thats it?
i've spent 3 years developing this editor and what do i get:

"downloading now" ...but no feedback...
"the screen flashes a lot"....
"looks nice"...
"i will use it when it will be for dbpro"

what people really like is the GUI.. which i didn't write at all. it was freddix. so i guess this is his editor too then? you guys make me feel sad

hmm, sorry for bumping this post... but i think after 3 years it really deserve some respect edit: or at least a little more....

I wrote about it over in the other thread found here:
http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=64682&b=1

And honestly, how long can anyone use it without that flickering giving them a headache? It shows great potential, but the flickering keeps us from using it long enough to really find too much to say about it.

Please read my comments in the other thread. I sincerely hope you finish porting it to DBP, which I believe most of us use, and fix that one seizure causing bug that warps our minds, and prevents us from fully exploring the many aspects of the otherwise well made creation.

Honestly now, the flashing bit is to soften up our mind, and then send subliminal messages causing all the women out there to fall hopelessly in love with you, and all the men to wait for a certain keyword which will then put us into a trance, and force us to join your secret legions, intent on conquering the world. I'm on to you, and as soon as I find a good costume and learn how to fly, and get a colorful animal side kick, I'm totally doing the super hero thing to save the world from your tyranny, oh cunningly evil overlord of mind control.

allrighty

i'll take a break from zombie hunter and start working on TIAME.
i will convert it to dbpro

if it become successfull (which i am hoping for) i will use the editor as the zombie hunter editor just to show you how modificable.. or whatever.. it is

the editor features so many things, you just have to look for them. and i dont remember them all...

what i will add in v3:
* fix the bugs from v2.02
* fix the functions and actions that does not work in v2.02
* matrix editing
* texture transition
* matrix to .x converter
* select mutliple objects
* terrain support
* shader support

if there is anything anyone want to see in a world editor, please post them now thank you.

Thats what happens when you put a lot of effort into something, and you feel proud of it, and wait for decent replies, but nothing, I get that too. I think this forum does it the least though.

I liked the program quite a lot, the GUI works well with it, with my PC being slow and really annoying at the time of testing, I wasn't able to do much, as with any DB/DBP app at the time my PC kept jolting the FPS, and well I guess the flickering GUI didn't help much.

Thats in full what I could have put in, I'll try out any new attempts with out the flickering and see if I can give better feedback, but when I find a time I can

thanks seppuku if you find that flickering annoying you could try an older version, but remember that the older versions have more bugs

v2.02 have almost none bugs (as far as i can see, i can't find any and noone have reported any, except the flickering gui).

Big Man,
the editor will work really well in an rpg.
all you need is an external program (currently only Magic World is compatible) to design the matrix, or draw a heighmap (70x70 pixels max, thats dbc's maximum size).

with the editor you can add whatever you need in an rpg, and any other kind of games. i used the editor when i was working on the level for zombie hunter. there i added starting points for the zombies and player. i also added EAX effects and positioned lights.

so basically the editor will work fine on any gender you plan to make.

you also mentioned that your friend use dbp. the thing is, this editor was written in dbc and is designed for dbc games... i do have a dbpro loader if needed. but i dont remember if it is 100% completed..

im working on converting the editor to dbpro at the moment. so in a month or so maybe i will have it done

Can you release a version sooner that is flicker free? Seriously. The only reason people did give this a chance is because of that.

I click on various buttons, and I can't figure out how to place an object in the 3d world. This version crashes whenever I try to load a map.

Oh well.

Do you know what causes the flickering in the flickering version? If so, anyway to just stop it? Just read the older post... just the sync? Oh. I had that error once. If you have sync twice in your program, it does that. Just got to use the find command to scan for it, and eliminate where it isn't necessary.

that is also a bug i've noticed:
when the fps is low you need to hold down the mousebutton longer for the program to recognize the mouse is pressed.

Quote: "his version crashes whenever I try to load a map."

cool thanks for the tip.

Quote: "Do you know what causes the flickering in the flickering version?"

i use this function. i have remed out the code that make the text flickery. and i have added some stuff onthe bottom.

You truely hold the fate of all mankind in your hands... or at least all the realistically ambitious DBP users.

hahaha. yeah i've pretty much tossed the dbc version and am working on the dbpro version. i have got bluegui and will use that as the new user interface.

but bluegui was quite different than i had imagined. ie it does not support buttons with images, only text

also with "pirates of port royale" and "noobs revenge on the anjl" i have had little time to work on this. (im not mentioning zombie hunter, since it is on hold until i finish tiame).

since this is a world editor for anyone to use i want to ask some questions:
actually its only one at the time being:

* how should the gui layout look like?
like dbc version? -> lots of windows with graphical buttons
like i had in mind? -> a menu based editor with few windows

i made the gui to the dbc version like I prefer, and how I found best suited me. but not everyone have same taste as me i think so thats why im asking.

what else is there to say..

i am working on this even though it may not look like it.
im kind of stuck with the gui, because i have yet to decide the layout.

when the gui is done i will work on converting the editor.
after that i will add more functions to it, like Matrix Editing, Colormap editing, shadersupport and more.

what i maybe plan to add:
Quote: "
Texture Transition Tools
Matrix/Terrain/Water Editing
Advanced Terrain Texture Blending.
* BSP style entity creation/placement tools using some sort of scripting system, to allow users to add their own custom entities to the editor
* Allow for some sort of integration method... so if someone has their program correctly set up, they can run the exe from the editor with a command line added, so they could test their map. (admittedly, that's more on the users siude of things, but a shell execute would be cool)
* Some form of environmental settings, such as sky box, gravity, wind... etc, however this should still be used by custom entities the user should define.
*the biggy... camera and set piece control over a time line (like half life's, and every other game since)
- a space for the user to embed their own flags/custom global settings to the level
- a 3d 'walkaround' mode (i.e. not actually walking and detecting colision, but using arrow keys to navigate and pitch the camera, and to change altitude, without using the mouse at all for camera navigation.. - this was in a level editor i once used and it was one of the most useful features.. made it easy to visualise my designs and to select objects etc
- plan view
- ability to make confined space levels (i.e. indoor levels) through the extrusion/movement of the walls
"

some of those are tips from other users. please add more stuff to the list

Map editor suggestions:

Be able to pick a spot on the screen, and have buttons be there, or a menu. Add in or remove things from the list of things in the fold down menu. Set these various things to load up a particular object, and you can then put it down as you see fit.

Did you see what neodragon did with his map editor?
http://www.freewebs.com/neodragon64/projects.htm
Makes it very easy to set things about.

Being able to grab a chunk of terrain, and rise it up or lower it to make hills is rather cool, but they have other programs you can probably do terrain with. Just something cool he had in his.

The important thing is to just have it where you can easily select objects, and place them around on the map, and make sure they don't overlap.

Have one button that is for placing, one for selecting and moving, and another for destroying. You switch between these three modes, then go about altering the map with the mouse of course.

Visualize this, if you will.

When you select an object, its x,y, and z coordinates should appear in edit boxes on the right upper side of the screen. Instead of moving things around with unsteady hands with the mouse, you can type in new coordinates for it.

If you could alter its bounding box from there, and other stats perhaps, that'd be great too.

Have you seen the Newton wrapper? Too complicated for me to figure out alas. Said to be way, way, way faster than DBP collision though. Not sure if anyone ever did an actual speed test and posted the results anywhere.

If anyone ever finds a way to load .obj files through DBP, I would surely be unstoppable.

hmm.. im not sure i follow you here :S do you mean something like a toolbox that you can move around the screen?

Quote: "Add in or remove things from the list of things in the fold down menu. Set these various things to load up a particular object, and you can then put it down as you see fit."

yeah good idea. customizable menu system. me like

sorry haven't tried it, will do when i get home.

Quote: "Being able to grab a chunk of terrain, and rise it up or lower it to make hills is rather cool"

i agree, i have some ideas how this will be done. however i have to work on the round hills code, theres some math i dont understand

Quote: "and make sure they don't overlap."

yeah, ill see if i can make a function to check for overlapping.

yeah good idea.

allready thought of that and i have it implemented allready in the gui.

Quote: "If you could alter its bounding box from there, and other stats perhaps, that'd be great too."

true, and it would be easier to navigate.

of course i have. i am using newton in Zombie Hunter DBPro version.
maybe i will add newton support.. i do need it in my ZH game.

i think i will do this:
make the editor however i see fit my game (zombie hunter).
implement newton and have option to use newton or not in the game world.
hmm.. basically ill make tiame 3 more like a world editor for zombie hunter and then ill add on from there.

I can't use dbc stuff properly, they always crash my computer - but I will say it looks like you've done a good job here from the screens, the gui is good and if you've managed to get all its functiosn working then you can't just say that freddix did that part, you've worked hard on it too If you really worked on this for 3 years, regardless of how good it is you should be thoroughly congratulated, as most projects never get finished Well done man

thanks. yeah pretty much 3 years have past since i started the project.
or maybe it was 2 years.. but ive been working on map/world editors almost since i first got db. i used matedit and magic world alot but both where not what i was expecting from a world editor, then i found freddix editor (3d map editor) and it was so awesome! that editor really did fulfill my needs in a world editor. but i felt i had to write my own too because his was still not perfect (not saying mine is, freddix editor is way better than mine ).

hey,

i found my second attempt on a world editor. http://members.fortunecity.com/n0id/lve.htm
by looking at the date of this i see i made it in 2003, that must mean that i either started with tiame in 2003 or 2004.. so its 1-2 years of progress only sorry i was so sure i've been working on tiame for a longer time but i guess its good that after 1-2 years of development it works pretty well. atleast 2.02 alpha works well, if you can stand the flickering gui.

see ya.

edit,
this webpage is my third or maybe first webpage i've done so dont go looking for anything fancy eh (i was told in rgt when showcasing my website that it looked 80's )

also,
i think i have my very first attempt on a world editor on my hardisk at home, but ill have to search for it.

and,
i think i will release the source to TIAME v1 (v1.22).
when ive done some more progress on v3 i will release source of v2 as well (v2.03 or some of my functional backups)
