So, anyone else heard about this game? Animeblood told me about it a few days ago and now I'm already obsessedly and anxiously waiting for its release. Why do I always find the good games a long time before they're released? . Anyways, here's a video, which I'm sure some of you have watched, but the design and mechanics of the whole game is simply amazing. It's a 35 minute video but every second of it is interesting and worth watching . It should be particularly interesting to us since we are game developers, i think its more interesting if you know how much would have had to go into it and the mechanics behind it. At the beginning you'll be like "this is...a wierd game" but bear with it, it gets better and better and better and better .

and some screenshots, that show the "real" graphics of the game:

Yeah it's definatly a worth while video if you haven't seen it (and shame-on you!) and a worthwhile video a second time around aswell!

Certainly looks addicting, finally allowing people to fulfill their dreams of galactic domination... but probably too confusing for non-avid gamers.

Cheers to Will Wright for once again attempting to break the limits of designing by the book. I saw this game about a year ago when they talked about it at E3 and in a few magazines after that... it looks incredible. Somehow I'm not surprised that the guy who made his claim creating little virtual cities, and then virtual ants, and then people, is now attempting to conquer a digital universe!

If that game can live up to that video then it'd deffinatly be something that would remain unbeatable for many, many years. I just dread to think of it's system requirements.

Thats how I first found out about it. However I watched again out of the blue because I was reminded via some site which as of right now I can't remember. Think it was Nuklear Power. So I was watchign it and Gil IMed me so I gave him the link then he asked if he should post. I couldn't remember if there were any more recent threads however when he searched your old one was the only one.

yes i was very impressed by the video, however they said that the other players data is downloaded and not realtime and the cpu generates things for them to do, so this means that blowing up another planet doesnt effect anything right? as you can just restart and there planet will be back again? or will your changes be made?

yeah, i was confused on that at first, but now i think i get it. It's not real time, like you said, but it feeds in data from other players to a certain point, I'm not sure to what point, probably just till you start a city, then the AI takes over, acting based on that players actions. You wont get into the game one day and your planet will be gone because another player destroyed it in their game, lol . Once the AI kicks in, I don't think it takes player input from that civilization anymore.

That is incredible.

What about extending past space though. You could be a god and have all these cultural wars with other gods trying to win the faith of the little creatures you create.

It looks class right now.
Can't wait to play it though, you can never be too sure about videos. Still is very exciting to see something that isn't a generic RPG, Platformer or FPS being made.

yeah, but this video wasnt just a tech video, it was a gameplay video, so it should be accurate as to the actual game .

I wonder if they can put live realtime online multiplayer on there for a gameplay mode (instead of downloading and letting the AI take over).

It'd never work. New players would just get obliterated or screwed about with by more advanced players - the only way they could impliment multiplayer would be with massive changes to the game and that would just spoil the whole thing.

yes i agree they would have to make begginer planets immortal or something which wouldent be too good but it would be cool if they did think of some good multiplayer feature as multiplayer games are very fun unless there ai is so good that your hooked.

No comment on the DS question..

Although that would be cool if it came out on 360, probably wouldnt be nearly as playable though. This isn't exactly a FPS or anything, and I don't see too many RTS working on a platform system.

I think the better question is, how long it will take to destroy that entire galaxy.

I wonder if you can actually go to every single little speck on that galaxy? It could be possible that say out of the 1000 specks on there, you can only travel to say 50 of them..
