You need to work on shooting your DNA further. Perhaps a video or something would be in order.

Several people have posted the usual 'Haha, nerds talking about dating' comment, can I just ask what makes you all so much less nerdy and obviously very succesful with women? - I mean to make a statement like that you must consider yourself above the peons posting here right?

Really, if you could pick a less predicatable and more believable standpoint next time we might get a discussion going.

Personally, I'm single and happy, I have a f-buddy and that suits me fine, when you remove 'f' from the equation men tend to cope just fine being single. Single blokes who are 30+ usually can afford a few luxuries, these get taken away when you move in with someone. You think when married men visit their single buddies it's through pity? - nah, it's envy!, every man wants an XBox on the living room floor, a leather couch, and the right to brush their teeth naked and fart whenever they want.

And stay up past 12 at the weekend.

And have friends.

And be entitled to an opinion re' decorating.

And eat waffles in bed.

By the sounds of it, Van-B, things aren't working out for you, are they?

Well, any nerd statements I've made have been inclusive. I doubt Vin Diesel is posting on TGC's forums, asking what method of limb culling is the best. There is, under all else, a common bond of nerdness between us all (some more than others, of course, but that hardly matters). Furthermore, every nerd statement I've made, however cutely worded, has an uncomfortable core of truth.

And further still, I've never used online dating, nor will I ever. If it works for someone, good for them. That's one less rich nerd roaming the streets, setting peripheral hardware standards that we all have to pay extra for. But, if someone asks how you met, you'll be forced to tell an awkward and uncomfortable story that sound mega lame.

I know a couple of people that met that way. When they tell me the story, I have to suppress rude comments and laughter. And, they're not that happy. They each seem to possess some strange personality quirk (bordering on disorder). I know that's certainly not how it is for everyone, but it's my impression. And the story is lame no matter what.

In what sense?

Because I don't have a girlfriend?

Yeah, I'm suicidal .

I don't want to get into personal details here, it's complicated, I have a son and his mom still has 'issues' with me - so I'm kinda stuck between finding a proper girlfriend and hurting him, or staying as I am - getting back with his mom is not something I could do, just wouldn't work. I doubt things will change until he's a little older. He's more important to me than anything. A lot of people might think I'm a chump, people have told me I'm too considerate with her, but it's just the way it is, too many factors to explain fully.

I don't like having to register to post comments on a blog :/ . I guess it stops "the spam," though. People can spam my site all they want .

Whats the deal with this thread? This should be a place of friendly tech-based conversation, not this heated battle of words! I'll tell you what this online dating thing is doing: it's tearing us apart!

But it's not too fair to blame online dating, you all are such sex-driven maniacs that you can't tell left from right!

And realistically, *everyone* has the internet and uses it almost every day now. When I was in uni there were a lot of non-CS girls in the computer lab doing their homework while chatting away on MSN or Yahoo. It's not like only geeky women use computers, as nowadays everyone and their dog has an email address.

So in reality, if you meet someone online, it's not the geekiest way to do things. There are *much* geekier ways (i.e. my buddy met his girlfriend in Everquest online). *That* is a seperate geeky way to go. But simply meeting someone online is pretty normal I would say. The last few girlfriends I've had were regular e-mail and MSN types of girls.

oh yeah definetly the internet itself isnt that geeky, but using dating sites can be, all the girls where i live use AIM now instead of the good ol' fashioned telephone.

I've had good friends that I only knew online, but somehow it just seems ridiculous to find dates online. In my opinion there is no way people can bond as well typing to eachother as they can talking in person, you really can't tell what a person is like just from the internet. Not to mention that it would just be emarrasing when someone asked how you met and you would have to say that her icon was the first one to catch your eye on the online dating site.

I'm not so sure that those who haven't tried online dating should be critisizing it. A movie critic doesn't get many jobs if he never watches the movies hes critisizing, does he?
