Hiya all,

After a long break from DB I've returned to coding in the language and to my medieval RPG - SUCCESSION.

Anyway...new start, new engine and heres a screenshot (very early) - it will look better once the sky is in.

BTW, we are looking for more level designers (that have 3D World Studio) and character modellers - if you'd like to sign up just email me.

Glenn, don't do it, joining up with noobs always ruins projects. It looks great by the way!

Bellis, why can't you do the coding? Let me guess...

Ok, I'm sorry. When you said "glenn can focus on the code", + grammar, + sign up date, I made an assumption. Sorry.

I still think he should work alone though.

you must of missed what i origanaly said and as to my gramer im dyslexic and also working as a team is alot more productive then ever doing anything by your self.

but i accept your apolagy

well like i said things are comming on fast with it i have completed the collision module the menu system loading functions glenn is working on all the cool stuf like effects models levels
and the entity system soon we will have implemented our own script system and parser witch we will both proberly work on as this is no easy task (hence the reason to focus on code) then im in the going to be in the proces of creating a standalone stats setter for objects e.g swords armour shields magic damage they do etc then comes the task of AI witch i will be starting next week witch i suspect that both me and glenn will also work on so there will be big updates soon it would just be help ful and faster if we could get a 3D Level Designer and modeler so we can get all the main elements in place.

why work on your own when you have a team that has worked togeather for a number of years? you cant make a RPG on your own as you will only set your self up to fail

i ment more to the fact of creating the story line plus all the models plus all the code plus all the quests dialogs etc is no easy task for one person praticuly doing a good rpg storyline as you almost have to rite it like a book heh btw cash seen some of your rpg engine shots looks good mate nice work.

Thanks for all the really positive responses. I'm overwhelmed with all the nice responses and emails and offers to help.

Heres a few more screenshots...

The sky is now in - that animates etc...

...hopefully in the next round of screenshots I can bring in some NPCS and an example of what conversations look like.

Thanks for the faith in my abilities to achieve the monumental task of completing an RPG on my own, however, I'd be the first to admit that I need help with various aspect of this...

Hope you all like the new screens.

Looks very interesting. It appears that the camera follows the player around. How does it function when the player enters a building? It seems that the camera positioning would be quite complicated, unless it was very close to the player.

Thanks for the comments, guys.

@UFO: I wanna make sure you have something you can do except for walk around before I realise a demo.

@Cash Curtis II: Inside buildings the camera will get closer to the player - to be an over the shoulder cam.

Thanks. I see what the problem was now, it was just that it was hard to understand. It should have been like this (bold words are corrections ):

"Yes, we have started it up again and it's coming on really fast, but we do need some level stuff doing and some char models, items, etc. Me and glenn can focus on the code. Come on you know you wana."

Instead of this:

"yes we have started it up again and its comming on realy fast but we do need some level stuff doing and some char models items etc so me and glenn can focus on the code come on you know you wana"

I read it like this:

"so me, and glenn can focus on the code"

That's why they invented commas and periods.

Great game by the way.

looks good . It seems a bit dark though, did you do "set ambient on [objectnum]" after exporting them to DBP?

Hiya all,

Thanks for all your positive comments...

@Gil Galvanti: Yeah we are still tweaking the brightness settings, draw distance and fog, so hopefully we should be able to brighten it up a little.

@The admiral and Pincho Paxton: ATM theres not much to say. Its smooth, fast, but essentually at the moment all you can do is wander around to the different locations and travel using the map. The whole team are big RPG enthuisasts and we hope we know what would be good in an RPG game, but ultimately the judges will be those who play it.

I really think we can achieve a very fun, very complete RPG game which is also modable for an expansion of the play.

Heres a progress report...

The Succession team have successfully completed checkpoint 1 and are now moving towards checkpoint 2.

The goals of checkpoint 2 include NPCs, conversations and more game logic starting to fall into place.

Here is an early screen from our work towards checkpoint 2...

The lighting could be a lot better. The shadows in the level are pitch black.

It's not about adding more lights. It's about increasing the ambient lighting. Right now it's really low so you can't see anything in the shadows at all.

Thanks to everyone that has commented so far...

I've upped the lighting on this.

Hope to push to create a working demo within the next fortnight. At the moment we are tweaking conversations, but they are in and working and I'll get you a screenshot very soon.

I normally hate posting interface shots, but this is kinda relevant to the gameplay...

Note theres only one location, well that changes as you go about your questing - so for example if you have a talk with someone and he tells you to investigate a location, it will add it to the map.

This is already working so basically we are near early demo status. I want to have monsters in to kill (and a way to kill them) before I release it as a demo...hopefully this should be soon.
