Hi all,

We've got a little mini compo for all you artists out there:

Updated Deadline: We have received loads of really great cards so far, but because myself, Lee and Rick are all away next week, we have extended the deadline by one week, so the new deadline is now the 10th of November.

Create a Christmas card based around game design / game programming / any aspect of TGC or our products.

In exchange the best card will receive:

A signed copy of the final card! and $100 worth of credit to spend on anything in our on-line store

It can be a scan of a sketch / cartoon, a pixel drawing or a piece of computer generated artwork - in short, whatever you like. It just has to be funny and game dev related.

It should be 6 x 4" (inches) in size. In pixel terms, at 300 dpi that is 1800 x 1200 pixels. We'd accept 150 dpi too though (half the values). You can design it in either portrait or landscape, up to you.

This has a short deadline, you'll need to email your card designs to me (rich@thegamecreators.com) by the end of next week (November 10th) and I'll announce the winner on the Monday (Nov. 13th).

This is a just for fun compo, your design will be used on the company Christmas cards sent around the industry I've attached a high-res TGC logo to this post, you don't HAVE to use it, but it's here if you want to.

Cheers,

Rich

The second competition, which is purely for fun and has no prize, is to come up with the most sarcastic reply to the following question:

Quote: "why do you want a christmas card?"

(Maybe I just won my own competition)

This is deeply weird in a deja vu sort of way. A few years ago I actually posted on the forums that a Christmas Card compo would be great for DBPro.

Now I'm wondering:

1. has Rich Davey and the team had the same idea as me, by coincidence? (The Great Minds Think Alike option)

2. or is this a development of my posts (like the AI plugin)? (The Amongst All the Drivel The Bear Has Got a Point option)

Anyway, regardless of which it is, great idea Rich! Best of luck to all the entries.

I think I'm pretty kewl--- after all, I will be receiving Christmas cards from all my aunts, uncles, etc. this year

But yes, good luck with this, you budding artists. $100 is good money for TGC stuff

Who's judgeing, the TGC staff?
Would hope so, as most of this community seem to have a warped sense of what looks good.

Last thing I'll want is to open my mailbox to see "All your codez belong us!" with Lee's face beaming back at me.

He has a good point though. *See's Lee's cursor above the big 'ban' button, stroking his invisible beard thinking 'Shall I smoke this cheeky bas****?'

I'm offended by Christians, please lock this...Just kidding (In relation to what someone said in another), ignore that I said that...To avoid comments on that thread.

As a skint dude, I'll give it a go, just need to think of something funny, TV is good for that, hmmm 'What do Santa Clause and an Emporer Penguin have in common' they both come once a year (or cum...dirty...)...would you believe that one came from QI

Question 1: Will we get to see all of the entries at the end of the competition even if not the winner?

Question 2: Can we post our submissions (or WIP) here for input and feedback?

Question 3: Are there any messages in particular that you're looking for ("Seasons Greetings", "Merry Christmas", "Happy Holidays", etc.)?

If I can find the time I may give this a go.

Rich a question on the size, is it the total size when folded a 6x4 front and interior or is this to be like a postcard with just a front?

Thanks

I've got mine about finished, but I need to know how you want to card image laid out. Right now I have the front of the card on the left, and the inside with all the Merry Christmas stuff on the right of my 1800 x 1200 portrait. Is this how you want it? Or should I invert it or what?

dark coder is right - front covers only please.

To those who have sent cards to us so far, nice one - keep it up! We've a good and growing selection already and still a week left (so to 'Prince of Darkness' *rasp*)

Ooooh... So the entire image (1800 x 1200) is the size of the cover? Whoops, ok, glad I asked, I'll get to fixing that later today.

I'm just trying to decide if it would be proper to include the word "christmas" on the front...

i'm using the TGC logo, so it would be "the gamecreators" and then underneath that "christmas".

What filetype would you like to be sent Rich? I can send it in PSD, PSP,JPG,BMP,PNG... Which is best for you guys? I'm sure you want lossless quality, but do you want access to my layers and stuff in case you want to modify it?

1) Yes you can send more than one card (keep them coming, we've got quite a few good ones now!)

2) Just send a JPEG for now. If you win we'll request a nice high res file format from you such as a PSD or PNG.

Cheers,

Rich
