THis is the SLoth Helicopter drop ship.

I just finished scripting it, and thought I'd put up a post, because I'm quite proud of it.

The interior and door can fit an entity or player, therfore in some levels it lands and enemies hop out, and in one other level it's scripted as a lift, allowing the player to ride inside, shooting out at enemies.

check it out!

I don't think you're average. I'd say we're both just so far outside the box, that sometimes we think inside the same box!

I'll get a video up tomorrow, but for now, whet your appetite on the screenie. ra!

Good job, yet again Butters. The lift idea was very ingenious, and I never thought of that... Might be able to get that working, for my Black Hawk
As for another idea... Its possible to get the black hawk to follow a waypoint, but is it poss to get it to land in a certain place every now and again, do you reckon?

Good work,
Yours,
Dan.

Wow. Really. THank you everyone. Just a coupla things:

Yeah, you can do it with waypoints or my waypoint script from the new sensei pack. Make sure you turn off floor logic for the entity though.

To make it land or something, you may need to use a timer, I'm using Emptys mod, so I'm going with the entitytimer command to make it pause at the landing state.Making it go down is easy, you just place each consecutive waypoint in a lower layer.

Oh and as a point I'm sorry that I used the word lift... I'm actually using a modified antigrav platform script... but you know, basically the same thing!

Butters you continue to amaze and inspire us. I can't wait to see it in action.

BTW: Where are those people who used to hang out here and say you couldn't make a game with this software?

Best.

hey hey hey. I got a little video up. The theory of using the dropship as a lift and making it transport the player is going to take a little more time I think, at the moment it all works fine except that the player appears halfway throught the floor of the ship. I think this could be something to do with the position of the ship on the axis at export, so I'm gonna play around with that.

Anyway, in this post is a picture of the SLoth in game, and in the next post is a video of it flying around and dropping of a dude.

Please note

1) the ship does a weird spin just before it lands, but this is not really an issue, it could be overcome with better waypoint placement, this is something I'll improve when I'm putting it in game, but for this preview, you'll just have to deal with the little pirouette it does...

2) the guy doesn't spawn inside. Again, this is a minor issue, that will be solved when I have more time to carefully place stuff.

Basically this vid is just here to show you the concept.

As a note, there are no trigger zones used, the enemy spawns due to part of the dropship's script.

I really wish there were a way to make a moving spawn point, so that it could drop off enemyies as it was flying, but there isn't.

anyway...enjoy!

(PS video is very small so don't worry about monster download time!)

PPS, the texture is a little blurry due to my odgy anti-aliasing, and the fact that I only ever use high quality textures in the final build, settings on the screenie are a medium

nice work man
could it spawn an ally while dropping you off?
I have an Idea you could do for the player version a door that opens and closes when enter is pressed just an Idea though keep up the great work!

butters, I cant see the video right now (am in the office ) but I surely will have a look when I get home.

As for your spawning enemies midair, why don't you try this :

1. place trigger zones along the ship's waypoint path
2. make the script using the 'iteminzone=ship:activateifused'(or something like that, I dont quite remember!)
3. then when the 'ship' is in the trigger zone, it will spawn it's ifused field (the enemies)

I just wrote this from the top of my head. Why don't you try and let me know.

Butter fingers, I'll ask Lee to take a look at this in the morning - I like to make sure he gets to see how hard you are pushing FPSC. You seem to have found a lot of the deeper controls!

Can you email me direct? I'd like to have a chat with you about your experiences with FPSC, it would help me a lot to understand your needs for the product and also what the key frustrations are.

nice work butter fingers, you have given me a very good idea.

a random question, is the main texture taken from one of the sci-fi walls? i think its military base im on about (sorry if its been mentioned, too lazy to read everything)

on the side it looks to have those rounded bevel things from the wall, could be wrong though

but great work overall

I don't think Butters is going to give this one away.
Whether he is using it for the Nvidia competition or for his game I think at the moment he is going to keep this one for himself.

i am so so so so sorry for hijacking, i literally BEG that you will forgive me, but you inspired a new small project for me butters

result of 3 hours modeling at college, still have to finish the back, and some more interior, and general cleaning up:

some inspiration from loc aswell, with that police bot and its grungy cracked paint look.

i just thought there wasnt much need of a new thread, once again sorry for the hijack, just wanted to show ya, if annoyed just say, i'll tear it down

looks good Jon, but can it land and spawn enemies like Butter's does?

lol kiddin. I seriously don't know how you manage to make such things in 3 hours!! I would take days to model something like that. Maybe its Milkshape...but mainly I think its just me

Mr. Fletcher

Jesus, mary, joseph and all the disciples Jon?!

What are ya doing to me!I looked at that screen you posted and just hoped you'd have some freak accident and get electrocuted by the keyboard and die...

But seriously, that's some really tasty work there dude, I didn't put a great deal of effort into the ship as I wasn't even sure if the theory of flight/land/boarding it would work, but now I've seen this I'm gonna have to dissapear off and model me a decent version of mine!

I wouldn't mind seeing a side version view of yours (and you always complain when you don't see orthographic), I can't really tell but is the back open? tha'd be really cool. Make sure on export, the point where the player will stand is exactly over the axis... that seems to be where the player is assosiated to..

I'm inspired by your work man, it shows me how far I have to go. We can keep this as a dropship thread, WHen you've got it mapped and FPSC ready, I'll drop you the scripts on email, cuz I'd love to see your ship in action (that sounds like dirty sailor talk).

Don't worry about hijacking the thread, although I'm sure it's your posterior that people will kiss now!

Filya

Thanks man, it was nice to see that you were stickin' up for the scripters around here! LOL.
That was my thoughts exactly, but you've gotta admit it's a tasty model.

Yeah...because life is just that peachy.

This is models and media forum, not the "NOOBS giveaway Bonanza", I was only posting to get peoples feedback and ideas. Thanks for yours by the way...

_Candle

Looks really sharp, now we need a nice tank to go with it.

And that's what we're doing... Gonna have a rotating turret that points at the player and everything!

Everyone else.

Thanks for the feedback guys, and the continued support. It's nice comments that make the effort worthwhile. I don't think I'll be giving the model away just yet, but I will give the script away, so that you can apply it to your own models. It's pretty nifty as you can use it to spawn anything from any moving entity.

sorry for bringing up this thread but i think i found another use for this dropship script. I got a model of a ww2 jeep off turbosquid and animated it so the wheels spin. then i exported it into fpsc and it came out wayyyy to big. My idea was if i got it to the right side i could have it follow a waypoint and then in the script have it play my animation. Then like in your dropship you could ride in the back of it.If anyone can help me get it resized i would release it.

If you look in the .fpe file for your entity, you'll see a "scale = xx", just have a lower number.

I've been trying for a similar effects for ages (although, i wants to ride in the helicopter...)

Guess this is one step closer to TGC realising we need vehicles in FPSC.
