James Brown, the legendary R&B belter, a singer and songwriter who created a foundation for funk and provided the roots of rap, a man of many nicknames but a talent that can only be described as one of a kind, is dead.

Brown died early Monday at Atlanta's Emory Crawford Long Hospital of congestive heart failure, his agent said. He was 73. go here -->http://www.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/Music/12/25/obit.brown/index.html to read the rest.

Guess he's not feeling so good now afterall. You know if he was still doing any performances in his 70's?

As a Metal man myself I do prefer more electric guitar-oriented blues to the funky/brassy kind that James Brown went for, but an icon is an icon and you have to hand it to the man, he had an immediately recognisable delivery.

The Music world is a little poorer today.

I have vague plans for World Domination

Another icon that 2/3rds of the younger generation didn't really appreciate. I talked with people who'd never heard of him... it's Richard Pryor all over again, shy of the big debate on TGC about it of course

Basically he inspired Michael Jackson, Rolling Stones, and a bunch of others. Many rap and hip-hop performers "borrowed" and sampled riffs from his songs because he was so groundbreaking.

James Brown: One of the few people that could carry a show just by shouting his name over and over.

its a shame he's dead.

I don't have a sig, live with it.

He was influential off the stage as well. Come on, the guy looked like Yoda but NEVER had a problem getting women to do naughty-time with him... that takes some talent me thinks

No that takes some money and/or fame, talent usually has nothing to do with it. Talent also has little to do with fame, it can certainly help but.. Britney spears, Paris Hilton, Spice Girls etc etc.

James was exceptionally talented though his work was unique and brillant. Elvis impersonators look out there is going to be a new wind in vegas soon.

I think they all have talent, just not noteworthy talent. Britney Spears is talented at making pre-teens take full advantage of puberty. Paris Hilton is talented at spending her parents' fortune (and she's also talented at making people think she's hot when she's obviously the doggiest of uglies on the planet). The spice girls... well... they must be talented at something. One of them absorbed David Beckham's talent but didn't do anything with it. Ever since he married a spice girl, he's been the laughing stock of pitches everywhere . But she must have had some sort of talent if one of the most famous footy players in the western world married her. She certainly wasn't that hot imo. But if she does have talent, it certainly has nothing to do with music
