They finally announced it!

Let the PS3-style "it's awesome but it costs $600" arguments begin.

i saw this in the metro the other day, looks pretty class.

Said it was 250 quid...

Its cool it recognises where the phone is and adjusts itself to that position, like if its on its side it will rotate the screen and it detects when its near your head and turns the screen off to save battery, or something...

Interesting, I have always been interested in expensive good quality phones, something with symbian and good power games, might be something to change my phone to, I have a Nokia 3650, now that thing must be ancient, but at the time it was top of its game before the ngage was released.

Of course, not forgetting apple TV, another interesting thought, goes to show apple is taking over the world alongside Microsoft and Google, if Steve Jobs becomes a fascist leader ruling the world, oh well at least we have the latest apple gadgets and look stylish.

Of course, a cool looking blue apple, on a white background with a slight silver shade, the ultimate flag

Figured.. Though I thought it was cingular that owned it I remember I had read that the name iPhone was already taken before they launched this.

They had a solid reason then though. Mac PC's are very low in demand, but that helped bring them up somewhat.

Apple are good computers and a good company, Microsoft have a bad reputation for being 'greedy', 'copycats' and 'bad security' but as good computers, both have upsides and downsides...No point worrying about who does what, just what you wish to use. I think Mac is a wise option as you get the best of both worlds, Mac OS and Windows XP ready.

Yes DX is a Microsoft product and letting apple use it would be suicide, so as long as they have that, they have the game making business under their hands and then indies with them and XNA, but not all of course, I'd prefer to work with a Mac, but I am trapped in this whole things of DBP being fairly easy and powerful and the amount of Direct X based games, but I do suppose getting a £600 MacBook with Bootcamp from UCAS that could all be solved.

Of course Apple make these side products to keep business flowing, it seems Microsoft do it because there's money in doing what Apple does, perhaps they feel Apple are in debt to them for helping them with their business in the earlier days.

Windows xp DOES work on a Mac.

It would appear I've been bitten by the coding bug yet again...

Am I the only one who *hates* all this miniaturization that's going on? What's the point of having a mini-PC anyways? The suits already have their Blackberry PDAs.

Blackberry is crap though.
Personally I think the phone has a lot of potencial, but this said it is honestly just a SonyEricsson P900 without the number-pad and an iPod built-in.

I like the whole miniturisation fact, which honestly has been recently going in a different direction for phones. I mean they were getting smaller and smaller, but now as they're doing more they're getting much larger cause we need the screen space on them.

It personally excites me to see this product, and it does look cool. This said I'm definately going to look forward to what other companies respond with.

Frankly I bet this because Microsoft released Zune. While the colours it comes in are horrible, it beats the crap out of the iPod. I mean the whole reason we got iPod Video was because Apple heard Microsoft's MP3 Player was going to support Video; guess they didn't hear it also was going to support HD-Video, HD-Sound and interact via Bluetooth/WiFi to all of your current appliances; including the new Ford Focus announced on Friday at the Detroit Motor Show.

personally although sure Microsoft have been playing catch-up to Google and Apple recently, trying to fight on several fronts. The products they're releasing now are by far better than their competitors.

I know that won't go down with a number of people here, but seriously watch the CES Keynote if you don't believe me.
It's their first keynote to ever go off without a single hitch, and to me that speaks volumes enough about them.

Anyone who wasn't excited about Vista, Windows Live, Office 2005, Microsoft.TV, Windows Mobile, etc. watch the Keynote. Just beyond words on what is comming for 2007 from Microsoft.

I have the Dev Version of Office 07 at work, it is SIMPLY AMAZING. The interface owns all else. Vista is ok, but I dont like the clear glass stuff. Microsoft TV I have seen a bit of, but meh. Windows Mobile looked sweet. I think the new 360 is awesome too. The Zune is "eh"

Since iPhone uses Cingular service, why would Cingular want to sue them?

Personally, I think its just another overpriced Apple gadget.

I own a Zune and have found that it tops iPod Video and Creative's player on many fronts. I'm sure we could go on all day with the Microsoft sucks, Apple sucks game...I really think people should evaluate their products equally and chose the best one for you, regardless of what company produced it.

As for the iPhone, I read in the paper that it is only available to version wireless customers (may need to clarify that). It may work out for some people but I don't see a huge boom in iPhones like there was with the iPod.

After watching the Keynote, I was thinking the same thing.

The iPhone will be available in June 2007 (Holiday 2007 - Europe, 2008 - Asia), to Cingular Wireless customers only; and will come with "free" internet provided by AT&T.

4GB Flash Drive - $499 (2year min contract)
8GB Flash Drive - $599 (2year min contract)

Cheapest Cingular priceplan:

Nation 450 - $40/month (forget the extras)

You will be looking at a minimum of:
$960 + $499 for the cheapest iPhone. So in total $1,459

don't get me wrong it's a cool phone but ffs.. not that cool.
i bet like the Mac, it won't have many (if any) games on it; which is one of the things I do use my phone for a lot.

have a Zune and Cellphone (which both interact already over Bluetooth) .. tend to do everything I want and on a PAYT priceplan w/free internet (WAP XHTML 2.0 compliant, just as good as any smartphone; with T9/Speech-To-Text inputs) honestly makes this a cool toy but not really providing me with anything I can't already do.

Hell my phone is linked to my Zune and with complete voice control I can do everything. Why the hell get my cellphone all mucky with fingerprints when I can simply tell it to do something?
