Howdy,

I was just stumbling along the net tonight, and came across this quite interesting site.

It basically gives a quick blurb and history of each and every Home-Gaming console released from the Magnavox Odyssey to the Wii

http://www.thegameconsole.com

Only took me an hour to read all the blurbs (from 1972 to present), so have a look, some of it's quite interesting... Did you know that Nintendo liscenced Sony to make a "PlayStation" device that would allow Nintento to use CD-ROMs in their consoles?

Ooo, I love these kinds of sites, Ive always been fascinated with the history of the home gaming industry. Also, I was actually aware that Nintendo made a deal with Sony, but then pulled out of it at the last minute to pare up with Philips to make their CD attachment. That fell through too however, and Philips made their own independent console known as the CD-i. Because of Philip's Deal with Nintendo however, they still had rights to the big N's major game characters. This led to the godawful Zelda games on the system. (Wand of Gamalon or whatever it was for one)

Wind of Gamalon is unfortunately, terrible..

I didn't know 76-77 was that big a time for game consoles, look how many there were.

I was about 5 in 1976, the only one I can recall back then was Atari Pong and Coleco vision one.

the panasonic 3do in the 90's was an awesome system, shame it lacked heaps of games.
the sega saturn with the cd version of sonic etc. was awesome as well.
nice find mate.. ahh them were the days.

In some ways I wish the atari 2600 was still cutting edge technology, trying to see just how far you could push it to make the next great game would be kind of cool.

You're SO right. Game creators have lost the plot recently. Nearly every single game that comes out screams "LOOK HOW PRETTY I AM" - or just uses bleeding edge technology for the hell of it. I'm sick of paying £30 for a game which looks good if you've just spend £2000 on a new PC, average on a 1 year old PC and is playable for about 10 minutes before you get bored.

This is where the Wii (imho) should triumph. Without ever having played it - It looks like the games are designed for ANYONE to pick up and play and, as far as I've seen, none of the games are particularly cutting edge in terms of graphics...
