I have to say that typing is rather difficult right now. Anyway, was cutting a special angled corner moulding for the back of a bar (cabinet shop) and on the last cut, the piece bound up, kicked back, and, well, the attached picture shows what happened.

I'm just glad I'm still in the ten finger club, and that the injury wasn't any worse. The doc was only able to put in 3 stitches, as most of the injury is just missing flesh from the fingernail area. The x-ray showed a small piece of bone missing from the tip of my finger.

Hope I didn't cause anyone to lose their breakfast(or lunch depending on timezone.) And please stay safe if you use any power tools.

MOD EDIT - Fairly icky image there, please be warned that it's not for the squeamish or young.

Good performance is better than a good excuse.

You lucky monkey

It's never nice to damage the nail and flesh around it, damn painfull. I was peeling turnip with a machete (summer job years ago), and hit the turnip with my thumb, jamming a chuck of turnip all the way down my nail, had to get it out with tweezers. Just looking at your finger brings that back - hence the mod edit.

MMmm, Tasty.

I remember when I first started Design and Tech ("Shop" for you Americans) at High School, our teacher was halfway through the sentance "And, you should never EVER look away from what you're sanding, no matter what!", but he only got to the 'look away' part when he looked away and lost the tip of his finger!

Power Tools are always great fun till someone loses a finger tip...

Ouch, glad it wasn't your whole hand and just that bit. Well best of luck on healing it. I do suppose almost loosing a hand or a finger is the programmer's nightmare.

Reminds me of that video that was going around where the police officer was talking to students about gun safety. He ended up shooting himself in the leg half way through his explanation. He just kept on going until the teachers forced him to leave.

@Hyrichter...

Nice injury, sorta reminds me of when I crushed my ring finger in a door. It looked pretty similar to that. I wasn't missing any flesh, but my nail was almost completely torn off and quite a bit of the flesh was chewed up. Splintered the bone in a few places too. Needless to say it hurt alot, so I think I can understand your pain. At that time I didn't do any programming, but I sure was glad I could still play my video games. If it had been a thumb or index finger I'd have been pretty screwed!

Thanks for the kind comments, guys. It's kinda painful now that the numbness has worn off. Makes it a pain to do much of anything. Next Thursday I go to get the stitches out and see how it's doing.

I was working with a guy who ran a stanley knife blade (accidently :/) through the middle of his thumb nail. He staggered through the shop looking rather pale, dropped to his knees in the toilet and landed head first in the bin. I had to drag him out and roll him on his side, and when he came too he started shouting at me for 'ruining his sleep'.

Ouch,

Lucky you didn't lose that finger, how else can you tell other motorists what you think of their driving.
