Can you use the Windows dial-up connections to connect with an AOL account, rather than using their browser? My friend has been trying and it keeps giving some winsock error. I guess the aol browser has its own version of winsock. During authentication, she'll get a 691 error. Name/pass/phone number are all correct.

aol installs its own dial up and tcp/ip virtual adapters, so I think probably not.

yea thats what i said. It's actually her cousin who she's visiting for the week. They don't really have a lot of options since her cousin lives on an army base with her husband.

Yes you can, there is a drop down on the first screen to choose another connection type other than AOL. Thats what I use.
