i myself have never submitted anything to the codebase or used anything from it really
but i do see it everytime i click on the Developer Network link on my toolbar

i always thought that the codebase was for developers to use to submit useful code that other developers may find useful in their program. usefull functions and quick fixes to common problems.

but recently i've started noticing entries like this

http://developer.thegamecreators.com/?m=codebase_view&i=ebd6448b858c6d89750235bd15b1eafc

someone got bored and submitted... a cube... spinning.

this is just one example of many totally useless little bits of code scattered around the codebase

you may argue that this may be a help to beginners. but this forum is FULL of brilliant tutorials MUCH more useful than a code snippet which makes a cube spin.

has anyone else noticed this mis-use of what could in theory be a very useful tool to developers?
maybe a verication of submissions to the codebase would be in order for new users like the n00b screening we have on the forums?

just a suggestion.

That's why just under the code theres "Report this Code". If you see one that you feel is incomplete, wrong, or just bad programming you can type in that box your reasons and click "Report". When it was first implemented a lot of us filled out reports and the entries were quickly deleted.

It's not a perfect system but it works.

Code like that would be fine for new users, however many new users don't even search before asking how to print something on the screen, let alone search the codebase.
