I came across this after hitting the wrong channel. Going on at the same time as the super bowl, animal planet has puppy bowl 3.

Quote: "
Puppies cavort in a play area that looks like a football stadium in the third annual event that offers an alternative to the Super Bowl.
halftime show featuring kittens.
"

Who needs an alternative to the real super bowl? The show is actually on for 3 hours.

Apparently it has the 2nd highest ratings after the Super Bowl.

Quote: "Puppy Bowl is an annual three-hour television show on Animal Planet. Shown opposite the Super Bowl, it has the highest ratings of any show shown at that time on cable besides the Super Bowl."

Although, I'm not sure how anyone can watch puppy's playing for 3 hours.

Edit: Here's a clip from it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXT-sJcJka4

And I reiterate, 3 hours?!

Oh I'm sorry, I didn't realise we were being that pedantic today. While we're on the topic, what exactly does this word 'woah' mean? It doesn't appear to be in any dictionary I own.

I watched it last year in lieu of the super bowl. I thought they'd actually have, you know, "events" or something. Nope, it's just dogs playing with squeaky toys. For half-time they have the kitties come out and chase laser pointers. Yep. Quality entertainment that. I wanted to change the channel but my girlfriend was saying "awww, they're so cute!" Rubbish .

That's how they're sucking in ratings though... the "that's so cute" mentality of some people. While the guys are wiping wing sauce all over the couch and smacking each-other on the butt after a good play, the women are in the other room watching the puppy bowl.

I think the puppy bowl should be hardcore. Use trained dogs and actually have them play out a game of puppy-ish american football. That would be entertaining enough to watch, dogs biting at each other. OR, during half-time while the kitties are running around, they should throw out some full-grown dogs that haven't eaten in a week or so... now THAT would make their ratings skyrocket!

Are you from the Twilight Zone? Where I'm from guys don't smear sauce on each other and smack each other's butts.

I would watch Puppy Bowl if they stuck a bunch of puppies in a cage with a lion or two. Quality entertainment!

Pah, Americans are tame where sports are concearned compared to the rest of the world. I mean, SuperBowl in the US means you eat junkfood, drink beer, and generally watch it with friends or in a bar. The World Cup on the other hand has thousands of people painting their faces their flags colours and traipsing over europe for 3 weeks (1 week if your Scottish). Still, it is nice to see sports fans off the couch .

Bah, Americans are too lazy to move off the couch. We don't even want to get up to get our own beer, which is why God created woman!

Wow...

I'm really disappointed in you Matt. Seriously. I'd never in a million zillion quadrabillion years consider watching something called the 'Puppy Bowl' instead of the Super Bowl. Nor would I in a zillion quadrillion years ever consider smacking another guy's butt after a good play in my living room. Next year just cut out the middle man and go to a drag show during the Super Bowl.

Anyway, congrats to MVP Manning!!!

Hold on, are you referring to 'Most Valuable Puppy?' - if so I agree, the way the little fella held it in for the whole 3 hours impressed the hell outta me .

But you were right Dave J!

The closest word to woah is woad \"wod\ n : a European herb related to the mustards; also : a blue dyestuff made from its leaves

He meant whoa \"wo, "hwo, "ho\ vb imper — a command to an animal to stand still

Well actually if your counting the games leading in to the bowl they last 4 weeks(5 really, there is a week delay between conference championships and the superbowl). There are also no rounds and a limited field (face it the americans would probably never compete in the world cup if you had to earn your way into the tournament ) NFL playoffs = lose a game go home till next time, no second chance no bad days allowed.

as a note if anyone can find this above claim to be true post a link. I have been searching nielsen sites and numerous tv rating sites and am yet to even find Puppy Bowl listed in any ratings chart during the superbowl.

And I shake my head when people devote themselves to watching football (but that's just personal opinion)

Don't get me wrong football is fun to play, as is almost every sport, but I really really don't see what people get out of watching sports on TV... It's one thing to go watch your kid play on his little league, but I don't see the attraction to watching these random people play with balls.

I don't like watching sports either. I'd rather play them than watch them. I always find watching without being involved boring I didn't watch it.

But the Puppy Bowl????

Quote: "Are you from the Twilight Zone?"

Ironically, I am . Binghamton New York is the hometown of Twilight Zone creator Rod Sterling (born in Syracuse but raised here in Binghamton), and several episodes of the show were filmed here and/ or based here. So I guess you could technically say that I am

Also, I didn't say they were wiping sauce all over each other, I said:
Quote: "While the guys are wiping wing sauce all over the couch "

The football players definitely smack each-other on the butt, I goofed and should have said they watch the players smack each other on the butt. Why do they do that anyway?

Quote: "Matt I know you have to be joking to express your dislike of football, there are a ton of other good things on during the game that I could see you watching, but the Puppy Bowl!?
"

It wasn't my decision! My girlfriend wanted to watch it, I can't just rip the controller out of her hand or anything

About the ratings: when CNN was talking about the puppy bowl, they said the same thing, that the puppy bowl had the second-highest ratings. So either it's true, or some moron intern at CNN's research department is using wiki for detailwork . Why would the latter not surprise me?

I love boxing, though in recent years I have been put off by the dirty side of it. When Foreman lost to Briggs all I (and the sports commentators) could say was FIXED. perhaps after Don King goes the way of the Dodo I will love it as much as I used to.

Wait, is it possible...someone else shares my views on sports?! *gasp* . I don't understand it either. I've never understood why it's so incredibly fun and entertaining to watch people run around throwing/kicking/dribbling a ball. They're decent to play, but to watch? Especially the time and things devoted to sports. I mean, there's an entire channel devoted to football . And there's even a local channel devoted to the local team . To me it seems like the difference between, say, playing Battlefield 2, which is perfectly fine, or devoting entire TV channels to the game and teams, people analyzing it's players and how they play it, showing things like "The Top 50 Kills", and millions of people cheering on a clan. Not to mention, 3 hours of watching a game, which is about how long American football games are, I don't get it, I can rarely even PLAY a single videogame for 3 hours, much less watch another person play it . Ridiculous IMO .

And watch as "Underwear_Thief533" heroically jumps out and rushes the sniper on the Chinese forces! AMAZING!!! HE DID IT! HE BROKE THROUGH THE ENEMY LINE BOB!

Yeah Jim! They are gonna need a few more miracles now though! The US forces have had the Chinese completely bottle-necked on that bridge for the last 15 minutes and the Chinese team's ticket meter is dreadfully low!

Your right Jim! Let's hope the commander knows what he's doing. Wait! Yes! He does! A perfectly placed artillery strike! The base is completely cleared out, and here comes a Chinese tank! They have an excellent chance at taking this post now Jim!

...

lol, actually that would be alot more fun to watch than football, but still pretty boring. I hate waiting to respawn in CS, let alone watching and not playing at all...

@Agent Dink: LOL, yeah, that's what I feel like about watching football, your commentary and it's ridiculousness. Especially when someone listens to a game on the radio, and the announcers tell every play, nearly drives me insane, lol.

And to add to your commentary:
-Now let's take a look at Underwear_Thief533's stat's. An amazing 41,000 kills and only 10,000 deaths, almost a 4:1 ratio, almost unheard of
-That's truly amazing Bob, I don't know how he does it.
-Now let's take a look at the games highlights in slow motion. Oh, did you see I_Like_Meat14 get that snipe on terminator51 while running, great shot, Jim, great shot. And here's that amazing grenade toss by AlexanderTheGreat05 taking out 4 Chinese in one hit. That really hurt their game.
-That it did Bob. Well hackerz15 is suspended for 3 games for using profanity during one of the matches, that's really going to hurt the "TriggerFast" clan.
-Yes it is Jim, and stay tuned for our next show, "A Biography of supersniper14", the leader of the "Fighting 50" clan.

Don't they do game commentary on g4. It does blow... prolly cuz they suck at making it interesting tho.

But then again, I prolly hate it for the same reason I hate watching football. (And it might be because they suck at presenting it).

I still love boxing, but man is it hard to find decent boxers nowadays. For years I was a Roy Jones loyalist, even after his small handful of losses, and I'm still a fan of RJ, although he's retired so what's the point. I like Floyd Mayweather but seriously, Oscar De La Hoya? Is he NUTS? Floyd is easily the fastest puncher since Roy Jones Jr., and he's definitely as graceful and stylish as RJ or Ali, but Oscar De La Hoya is a freakin' technician. Mayweather better go for a fast KO or he won't last the full 12 rounds. I mean come on... we're talking Oscar here.

Quote: "Don't they do game commentary on g4. "

Does anyone remember the good ole' days when G4 was actually about games? Man I miss those days. Now it's all star trek re-runs and naked chicks jumping on trampolenes. They took a great gaming channel and turned it into a "let's appeal to nerds, but the classic interpretation of what a nerd is" station
