Thanks for all your comments!

@ Airslide,
I've E-Mailed you about the animations

UPDATE: (BAD NEWS)
It's taken a little longer than expected to get the BAR done. However, know it's finished i have 7 (i think) guns textured. There is some bad news; due my being a certain age, i have my GCSEs coming up soon and will need to start revising heavily in a few weeks. This will obviously effect the rate at which these gun textures can be produced as i will roughly have 2 hours of free-time a night

My Dad has said that it might be a good idea to postpone the project while this happens. This will mean not coming back to do another texture until June/July. I'd rather not do this, but even if i don't it looks like progress will be very slow from now on.

I guess i won't get it released by May then...(i started this pack May 06 and was hoping to have it finished by May 07).

Anyways, here is the BAR in three different renders. First, the full-body render. Note, the addition of bipod legs to the model.

And here's a shot of the detail. There wasn't too much on this gun but it still doesn't look too bland.

And lastly, here's a final shot looking back from the barrel. As with the Sten, the black holes on the side will be transparent in FPSC.

And, just because i felt like doing something different, here's a promo shot of the German weapons we have so far. Enjoy/Salivate over!

C&C is as always welcome,

AE

The STG44 Pre-Final Video was awsome but one thing when you cock the weapon the hand stays the same... it looked kinda weird other than that i can't wait to get this model pack.

AE already told me he's not doing anymore weapons (as I asked him about an FG42 via e-mail), though who knows, maybe if we get enough intrest, we can do an additional pack with more explosives and less common weapons (though that's mostly up to AE).

Thanks for all your comments.

SMALL UPDATE (but important):
Airslide asked me some time ago to send him all the textured weapons so far. So, i got converting and tweaking and was ready to sned it off on Friday. Suddenly, i realised. One (technically two, but this only affects one) of the weapons was the K98. I had forgotten to model any ammo for it.

Like a Lee Enfield, a K98 relies on a what's known as a 'stripper-clip', basically a sheet of metal, with rails to hold the bullets in place. The rails allow the bullets to move (but only down). This means that if you attached the 'open' end of this clip to the end of you bolt, you can push 5 (or whatever the capacity of your gun is) rounds straight in, without the need to load each bullet individually, or faf around with loading a box magazine.

Anyways, i also discovered the wonders of cylinderical mapping this weekend too, making the texture for the bullets seamless (one bullet was models, textured, then duplicated 4 times).

So here it is, first on its own:

And here it is in action on the K98, the only gun that requires it so far.

These can now be sent off the be animated.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
I'd also like to run a new idea past you. In addition to this pack of WWII weapons, i was thinking about another pack of extra textures for these guns. The idea is that this pack would be sold at around £15 with 18 fully-animated, fully-textured guns. The second pack would contain Normal Maps nd Specular maps for the guns in this pack, and cost around £7.

What do you think?

C&C is needed and welcomed,
AE

I think £7 sounds rather steep for just some textures - Thats nearly half of the normal price. I know its only £2 difference, but £5 sounds cheaper.
The thing is, though... You really need to see how well this sells first.

The K98 looks fairly good, except the texture looks more like that of an M1 Garand. I know the K98, historically speaking, was more of a sandy colour.

edit; after looking through some more pictures i found some similar to your colour - my bad!

Doesn't the M1 Garand use that kind of thing to?

Nope, the M1 Garand uses an 8-round "en bloc" magazine, that is ejected automatically once the last round has been fired.

He took a break for exams (When will you be back working on this?). But I have a question how will the sniper rifles reload? About the MG-42 request I made a while back: Yes MG-42s did take 2 or 3 people to use properly but Red Orchestra is without a doubt the most realistic WWII game I have ever played or seen before. (and I have played quite a few lol) In CoD: Allied Assault you can carry your MG-42 at waist height, and shot fine. Can't wait for this pack. Oh and why don't the grip and the stock match on the STG44?

AE has other things to do than just hang around the forums.
He has already made a crosshair pack so vaporware is not is style.
He has school and he is probably making a movie or something.
We don't time people on how long it takes to finish their stuff.
We need to be patient.

I got an E-Mail today from someone asking me what happened to the pack so i thought i'd check the thread.
Quote: "are you still working on this?"

No sensora, mi problemo es no tengo tiempo porque i'm busy desperately revising Spanish...and my sciences...and everything else.

Quote: "Oh and why don't the grip and the stock match on the STG44?"

The wood on the grip is morning wood

Quote: "vaporware.

...oh ye of little faith...

Quote: "He has school and he is probably making a movie or something."

Because i don't get enough free-time to sit down and texture a gun, i'm sitting down and writing a script for a movie i'll be making over the summer called 'Revenge Vendetta'. I posted a small excerpt on another forum (fxhome.com) and they seemed to like it so it's going well.

OH dear; my graphics card just died...

Hello all,

I've now finished my exams and i have a couple of weeks to texture a few more guns before i get tied to my film project for a while. I had planned to show you the Webley fully (or at least partly textured) but because Paint Shop Pro decided to die on me, it corrupted the file (i had already spent about 3 hours on it) so i'm left with a single jpeg version which is unless because 1) it's highly compressed and 2) jpeg files don't save seperate layers so all the layers in the image (Metal, grip, detail, shadow etc) have all been merged. I can't recover the file either...

Anyway, i'll start from scratch later and hopefully finish it by Friday. I still felt the need to post because 1) I don't want this thread to be locked and 2) I have to ask a favour.

I NEED SOMEONE'S HELP:
I've tried modelling hands but i'm not happy with the results. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could model a single arm (including hand, forearm, elbow and bicep wearing a shirt down to the wrist) which i can use in this pack. You can have the pack for free if i accept it. It doesn't have to be textured and it can be generic so i can texure it for all nations included in the pack. I hope some of you can help me out, i don't do organic modelling and with the ammount of work i've got left to do, i can't afford to spend weeks practising.

Please help, i will be very greatful. Your poly-count limit 800 (i made mine to 665 but i figure it's got to look realistic when it moves so 800 should do it hopefully).

Sorry for sounding so depressed, i think the texturers among you can understand why though...

Thank you,
AE

@AE I've got a question. Can the arm be done like this in my thompson in my thread??? I've changed it a bit, so it's a bit better than on the screen.

Yes, i think so. Although the shape of the arm isn't completely cyclindrical. If any of you are interested, please post your arms and i'll pick the best one.

Thanks for the support,
AE
P.S. I've re-started the webley and it's looking better than ever!

I've got the mp6 arm rigged and ready down to every finger in milkshape, but alas, redistributing it would get my ass kicked off the forums for a good time ahead.

WOW. Those weapons look awesome. And being that Im a newbie at this and had'nt learn any maodleling and textures yet. I would gladly pay $29.00 for an fpsc ready pack of WW2 weapons. Can you do heavy stuff like 88s, opel blits and or a pak 75, Static models of course. I would gladly pay for those as well.

@ Æ (I can call you Æ, can I, Avenging Eagle?): I can provide some sounds from flashkit.com for your guns. There's this one gunshot that'd be perfect for a K98k!

American Infantry, I doubt he would be able to sell a pack with sounds from flashkit, due to royalty or something.

I found the best way to get sounds is to record a sound and edit it on the computer (clean it up etc) Reload sounds can easily be done by say, sliding two pieces of metal together to get a scraping sound and then clean it up a bit on the computer. I use Wavepad to edit my sounds, and it is a useful piece of software.

Example, it's not the best sound in the world but it's a demonstration.
