Thanks for the help guys!

if you could all provide (through the forum or by E-mail) a .3ds version of the arm/hand, i'll take a look and decide whose one to go for.

Thanks again!

Thanks for all your entries. I had a look at all of them and i've selected one. After comparing them to my original, i deciding that i prefered the actual arm on the old version. However, despite the fact his hand was over 2000 polies, i have chosen m man's entry. I wouldn't have allowed it but in milkshape, you can use a slider scale to reduce polies so i managed to get it down to 600 quite easily (only hope it animates well too).

Here's a comparison pic:

Thanks again for the help,

Avenging Eagle, a question.

I don't know how capable you are of animation, but will the hands be rigged in a way that would allow the thumb and fingers to move around like in model pack 6? Or will the best option be to have the arms rigid, in one clasped position like in model pack 5?

I'm going to try and spend as much time as possible on it over the summer. I don't know if Airslide is still willing to animate for me but if he isn't, i will be doing the animation and texturing so it will naturally take longer. I can't give an estimate yet on a release date.

Quote: "Maybe soon we can see an animation video"

Only if Airslide animates more guns. He might be busy right now so i would suggest patience. I hope to have some of these guns animated with a month.

@ Opposing Force:
Yes, the hands will have "independent" fingers (like MP6). This was important to both me and Airslide to really sell the realism.

Quote: "I'm so excited for this pack"

So am I!

The Webley texture is nearly finished but i need to do the details on the barrel and various other minor bits. I should finish it tomorrow, and i will post some pics ASAP (i have my school prom tomorrrow so i'd like to get this texture out of the way).

Thanks for your continued support,
AE

On Topic:

Hopefully Airslide will still do the animation for it and now that I know that the fingers will move it's making me double more excited.

@ Smitho:
E-Mailed you back.

UPDATE:
At last, the Webley texture is done (those details took alot longer than expected). I only have a little bit of time before i need to get ready for my prom so i'll make this brief.

The texture is "finished" but i may tweak it a little at a latter date. I've grading it with a sort of redish tint to resemble an older more used look.

Firstly, we have the Full render from the left:

Then, the Full render from the right:

Next, a detail render. I've fine-tuned my "engraved text" look to perfection:

And finally, because you've been starved of pics for so long, here's a little fun pose:

Nothing's changed, please keep commenting as before.

it looks OK, but it's very, very boxy. Your average gun should be about 2000 poly's including hands.
You seem to only have about 120 there. lol.

In the render pics, why're the bullets green?

Anyways, it looks good, but too boxy. I don't model stuff in Milkshape, but I know that a gun has to be around 2000+. i dunno why, ask someone else.

Anim8or can not export animations. He will probably use Blender, Max, milkshape or something..

Its a shame, I know. Anim8or is a great little program for simple stuff, and with the name it holds, youd expect it to do something as simple as export the animations it can create..

Thats why I started using it because I thought it could export animation. (Sorry to get off topic)

Nothing of that sort exists. Not that I know of anyway, since it would just deform a model horribly.

oooohhh, this is about the first time i've received a 'mixed' review for one of my guns. Then again, i haven't done it for 4 months for i'm not surprised im a little rusty. Most of your concerns are about the "boxiness" of the gun. Well, that has to me this...
SMALL UPDATE:
I've now beveled the grip a bit more and made the trigger-guard more rounded. Just so to compare, you can take a look at the original just below my render.

Here's the webley with bevelious update

And here's a real Webley Mark IV .38

C&C as always

Messed up link;
Fix for those who dont understand how to view.

Now, C&C.
Personally, I think you should make the handle Black, like on the reference. With this done, it should look a bit more realistic and defined.
But it does look, in my opinion, much better.

Man, I thought this was dead. Guess I better crank out milkshape for the animating again, eh? I'm stuck on a laptop though, hopefully the thing won't overheat every five minutes like it has last week. I think I have milkshape on here - I hope

Not entirely true Opposing Force. I may have an 8 week holiday but on July 7th, i'll be filming my next film so from then on i'll be editing it. I will probably take a two week break from the pack to edit the film then do as much as i can before i go off on Holiday later in August (this year it's Portugal).

Just to keep you informed, i've started work on texturing the new arm. The texture has worked out alot better this time. I'll be finished in a day i reckon.

UPDATE:
I've now finished the hand texture. While i will be more work on the cloth and arm texture, the hand is 95% finished with only minor tweaks to iron out. I'm really happy with the mesh on this one (probably because i didn't make it). The only minor problems are that the joints refuse to smooth out no matter what smooth angle i set them too. Still, I've got three pictures for you.

Everything had to be made from scratch apart from the joints on the top of the hand and the knuckles (i spent along time transplating joints from a picture of my hand and colour-correcting them to match my skin texture).

Anyway, now that the hands are mostly finished, i can get on with texturing another gun before Saturday, when filming will begin on my new film and i will have a break from texturing.

Here's the top of the hand. I think you'll agree that it looks much better than the original arms:

The underside of the hand. Those rinkles were drawn by hand, a fun task to work out how to do:

And lastly, i thought i'd let you see the thumb. The hand looks kind of feminine from this angle, must be the nails (also hand-drawn):

C&C as always. This is not the first time i've tried to texture hands but it's definately my best attempt.

I'm 95% sure the next gun will be the Mosin Nagant (Scoped and standard with one texture like the K98).

Also, look out for my new video tutorial series on mapping, wrapping and texturing an object for FPSC (i use the Webley as my example). Its very long but pretty informative, i've just got to upload it now.

The fingers are too long Hate to be blunt, but they are.. If you look at your own hand, youll see how out of proportion they are.

Come to think of it, Smitho's right. Other than that, it looks pretty good. I can see some weird seams, but I don't know if that's caused by the modellers lighting or the texture. If I were you, I'd do a loop-cut and bevel/smoothen the tip of the sleeve, then it'd be great.

Yes, i do have long thin pianist fingers. Although i don't play the piano i've been told i could reach more than an octave with one span (distance from tip of thumb to tip of pinky).

Maybe so, but my fingers arent far off that feat also, but dont look as out of proportion of that. As a little tip mate, select the polys on the finger and use the squash tool in anim8or (the box with 2 arrows).
