I agree, crispex! Only, I don't like that much German food (except sausage).

I'm part German (25% Italian, 75% German, 500% American), so.....ja.

Guten Tag.

I spent alot of today uploading my new video tutorial series (see FPSC Chat) but i did manage to work on the hands. I've shortened the fingers and added some faint vein on the top of the hand.

I can't be bothered to argue with imageshack again so the pic is attached instead.

UPDATE:
Well, after mucking up UV mapping the Mosin Nagant the first time round, i had to start from scratch. However, i fortunately able to catch up fairly quickly yesterday. This however still meant that i had to spend 6 1/2 hours working on it today. I think it's now done since all that remains is some slight colouring on the wood (this is optional however so is not very important).

So, using the same method as the K98, i have managed to texture 2 guns in with map. This also means that i had completed at least 1 gun from all 4 factions of the pack. Here's what i've textured so far:
American:
BAR
M1 Garand (i'm not happy with it so i'll probably redo it)

British:
Sten MK II
Webley MK IV

Russian:
Mosin Nagant
Mosin Nagant (Scoped)

German:
Luger (might redo but not sure...)
MP44 (AKA STG44)
K98
K98 (Scoped)

That's 10 guns...out of 18...which can only mean one thing:

I'M OVER HALF WAY THROUGH TEXTURING!!!!

But anyway, back down on Earth, i have five pictures for you to salivate over (more than the usual number but there are two guns so i thought you deserved it).

Pic 1:
Both Mosin Nagant and Mosin Nagant Scoped together at last!

Pic 2:
Detail on the Scoped variation. The poly count for this one is 1682 but that's mostly because cylinders like the scope take up excessive amounts of polies.

Pic 3:
Detail on the non-scoped variation (i.e. the original). Note the russian symbols engraved on the metal beneath the star. They provide an authentic touch to this fairly un-stamped gun.

Pic 4:
More detail on the scoped version. This time we see the distinctive shiny metal cap on the end of the bolt. Also note the detail inside the scope.

Pic 5:
And lastly, another picture of the detail on the original, this time looking back at the bolt. There's not much to say about this one, it's just a nice render...

Well, that's me done for a couple of weeks. I'll still be browsing the forums but i shall not be texturing any more guns until i've finished filming and editing my film.

C&C is greatly appreciately and i think i deserve it after around 8 hours work...

Yes, i'm certainly proud of it. You might notice that on the trigger guard there is a wood texture instead of a metal one. Unfortunately there was nothing i could do about this in the UV mapping but this can easily be rectified.

Glad you like it, keep posting comments

I feel i should share with you the reason why i am having a break from the gun-pack so you don't think i'm merely getting bored.

My film has been shot and i'm now editing it. You can see pictures of our footage here:
http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=137830413&blogID=285577133

I know this has nothing to do with the pack as such but i felt you all needed reassuring that i am still alive and shall be continuing with the pack soon.

I think you really need to sort out your smoothing, especially on the hands.
Just some random flat squares on a hand is'nt very convincing.

I like the scope on your Nagant rifle but the wooden bits are really ruining it because it looks completely flat, perhaps you could play some more with the shading on your wooden surfaces when you return from your break....that be most excellent.
Don't be affraid to accentuate little screws either, I think little screws deserve to be seen.

The thing around the trigger (the place where it should be) has one place, where is a wooden texture instead of metal.

Ofcourse you can don't be lazy, detach the faces, remap it and place it on a metal bit of the texture map is the easiest.

Yes, unfortunately the pound keeps rising so while the British price will stay at £15, the American price has climbed from around $28 to $30 and is likely to keep on rising.

Once, the pound was trading at $4:£1!

If that happening, you'd be paying $60 for it Zniper Monkey! I think it's a reasonable price...

I dance a thin line on prices. I mean i could charge £40 for this pack because i think after all the effort Airslide and I have put in, we deserve that much. However, very few people would buy a pack that cost that much.

I don't know how many people are still interested in this pack enough to buy it, but i hope its enough to make it worthwhile...

How much did it cost you to make this?
If you would charge $40 and only one person would buy it, it's $40 profit so what's the big deal?
If you think you should charge $40 you should do it.

I personally do not think it will be worth that much since there are a few in here that have minor bugs that make things look nasty while there is an easy 5 min fix for it plus the overall quality of the work is average at best.
Don't crush my skull, this is just what I think of it.

Here's my true opinion...

These models are most definitely not worth $30+ USD.

I mean, look at the textures man. They're very. very blurry. Some of the UV Mapping on the guns previously were jumpy, (unless you fixed that.) and I just personally think the price is too high. Honestly, I don't think you "deserve" this price either. Sorry if I'm coming across rude, but if you charge 10 pounds for it ($20+), you would get more buyers, and probably make more money in the ending.

Just an idea and a few crits. Let the ranting at me begin...

AaronG.

You said what you thought so i dont see anything wrong with that.

Personally i think this pack is worth it.
It contains lots of weapons.
Animations and such are all done by them.

But then again when i see Errants pack which will cost
so much less then i think hmmmmm...

But still i think that they deserve this price.

@ AaronG:
Quote: "These models are most definitely not worth $30+ USD"

Have you even heard of turbosquid? People on their are selling single, unanimated, untextured models for $50 or more. Perhaps $30 is too steep for you but £15 is not too much to come by in Britain and is only a little more expensive than MP5 and MP6 (but will contain 2 more guns than MP5 and MP6).

Quote: "I mean, look at the textures man"

Could you do any better? The maps on all of these renders are 2040 x 1370, so i can't understand why they would be 'blurry'. Maybe it's my mapping technique. I've gone to great trouble to make certain areas large enough in the map for detail.

Ofcourse one thing that you have overlooked is the additional textures than guns in this pack will have. The renders only show the diffuse texture but i will be making some Normal Maps and Specular Maps for these guns too (they may be in a seperate pack though).

Quote: "I just personally think the price is too high"

Ok...you are ofcourse entitled to your opinion. Some others thinks this pack should be free but some think i should charge more for this pack.

Quote: "Honestly, I don't think you "deserve" this price either."

Need i remind you how much work is involved in one gun alone?
Modelling: 2 hrs
Texturing: 5-8 hrs
Animating: 2-5 hrs
Sound Recording/Editing: 1-3 hrs
Making Final: 1-2 hrs

At minimum that's about 11 hours...per gun. So you can times all that by 18 (in this case) and you'll get 198 hours at work on one pack, and it's likely to be more.

Quote: "Sorry if I'm coming across rude, but if you charge 10 pounds for it ($20+), you would get more buyers, and probably make more money in the ending."

Yes, that's true, i may. At the time, £15 sounds like a nice rounded number that wasn't too extortionate (sp?) but not a bargain either. Since the pound has risen to the dollar, it may have put off some of our American market.

If the pound rises much more, i may lower the price to accomodate our American market.

@ Ezykeyal:
Quote: "the overall quality of the work is average at best"

What do you mean? I've gotten very good report about my low-poly modelling and i keep getting positive feedback (mostly...) about the textures. This pack is the first time i've ever UV mapped and textured so it's not surprising some of the earlier guns are a little shaky.

@ Cheese cake:
Thanks for the support
