Portland is a really cool place. It is only about 6 hours from you isn't it? Also, I thought you needed your passport even for land transportation now (to/from the US), although I could be wrong. I wouldn't mind looking into it.

Nah, right now we can drive across with just standard ID, but sometime in 2008 they will require everyone including land transport to have a passport.

If I go it will be option 1, not because I'm cheap but beacuse I'm staying in a small villge outside leeds on holiday so it will be easy for me to get there anyway.

I dont know if this has been answered but is there an age limit???

TGC can't be responsible for non-adults, so a parent/guardian would have to accompany you. The issue is child protection legislation, not convention rules.

i wish i could say see you all there, but sadly, thats like 300+usd for me, just for accomidations, plus the plane ticket, i wouldnt be able to get out there for like another 4 years once my debt is paid off, so in four years lets hope tgc are still having their conventions lol

Zoom Airlines does cheap flights to the UK.

www.flyzoom.com

It's like $179 from New York to London. So all you have to do is get to New York.

Its about the same for Canadians. But flights leave a few canadian cities like toronto.

Portland is actually a great place for something like a US based convention. There has been SOME interest in a US convention, but not enough to warrant a backyard BBQ.

GNER run regular promotions for cheap travel, so keep an eye out for appropriate deals. They are doing £5 tickets from London to Leeds now, but they don't extend to October just yet.

Just curious guys, What's your customer base like in the U.S.? I mean, do you think there could be enough folks over here using the DBPro product suite to make it worthwhile to have one here too? NY Maybe?

I'm in South NJ and would travel as far as NYCity or Baltimore to attend if you were having one over here. I don't think I would be willing to fly though.

I see my deposit payment has been relieved from my account

I hope to be able to get the full amount very soon (preferably by the end of next month), so will it be possible to pay the remaining about in one go as a (possibly) refundable amount ?

Hallo,

Sorry, I have been away from my pc for quite a while. I hope to be sending in my deposit sometime over the next week. Is it ok to send cash $$?

You'll have to make cash out to "The Bearer on Demand".
If you don't mind risking the sending of cash, then it's OK. I don't think you can reclaim cash from the Post Office if it gets lost though.

Yea, Its because my chequebook got stolen by aliens, or eaten by the dog, or otherwise lost/destroyed, and I can't be bothered of going through the hassle to get another one

Stolen more like. I would also advise against sending cash in the post, though if there's no other way there's not much you can do.

.. Other than perhaps put a beuuumb in the envelope so if someone tries to steal the money they get blown up. Or.. not.

That's my helpful advice for today.

It was not particularly helpful. My beuumb does not fit into the envelope.

The plan is to use Google Checkout very shortly, which will allow non-GBPers (£) to sign up, and make it easier all round. I'll keep you posted, as and when I get to hear.

OK, that was painless, you can now pay your deposit, and ultimately the full fee, using Google Checkout. You will need to email Mrs Batvink for the link to the payment page, so that she has a record of your request. The address to email is michelle at devink dot co dot uk.

Well, I've requested the website paying the remaining amount. Now to save up for the transport there

One thing that may be worth doing is replacing (or amending) my entry about previous conventions on the Wikipedia entry for DBPro - get it updated (and thus advertised slightly more).

For anyone who has requested to pay the full amount, it will be possible shortly. I need to make a Google Checkout link that can accept the right values, the previous one only accepts the £10 deposit.

Yes, Nick has road-tested it. If you want to pay by Google Checkout (the £10 deposit, or the full amount), then mail Mrs Batvink (michelle at devink dot co dot uk) and she will send you a Google Checkout invoice that you simply respond to.

Don't forget, you'll still need to complete the registration form.

Hi,

if you've already booked your place at the convention, then I'd like to know what your interests are, so that Rick and the team can tailor the weekend to suit the audience. Are you coming to learn more about DB Pro, get inside FPSC, or find out what's happening with X10? Are you coming to network with other coders perhaps, or pick up some tips from the TGC team?

You can email me, or post here. Thanks for any input you leave!

Do we have a last orders date? I'm toying with the idea, but would like to know what is a reasonable time frame to let you know if I'm coming or not. A month in advance?

My main interest is DBPro. I don't have much interest in FPSC unless the hard work that has gone into it gets ported to DBPro at some stage, possibly with a new DBPro X10. I haven't had much time recently to program but would like to get back into the swing of things by end of the year so I would really like TGC to explain the future of DBPro, possible X10 release, updated IDE, help files, bug fixes, etc.

PS. How is final payment to be made for those of us staying over the weekend. Are we paying you upfront with you paying the conference centre, or are we paying the conference centre directly when we are there?

You could try to turn up on the day, and hope there is still room. However, you wouldn't get a nice badge and any TGC goodies that may be available to registered attendees.

We're working on a first come, first served basis. We have limited places for health/safety reasons. My advice would be to book as soon as possible, especially if you plan to stay at the conference centre accommodation.

Spooky, thanks for the input. Hopefully others will follow suit

Quote: "How is final payment to be made for those of us staying over the weekend"

We can now take credit/debit payment over the internet. We will invoice you nearer the time. We hope to collect all payments by the beginning on October. Of course you are quite welcome to pay sooner, as some people already have

I've booked by journey now - unfortunately I'll have to leave around midday on the Sunday, as there is only 1 train then, and I couldn't really afford to stay an extra night and leave on Monday.

I have one change going and two coming back, unfortunately...
