Yes, I saw the soft shadows too.
Yes, I saw the knee deep in water shot.
Yes, I like the missing boot too!
It's all good! (actually it's all excellent)

Second Edit (I can't get over this character's pics)
The detail in his ear is awesome and makes me wonder what your FrameRates were?
I mean how many polys is that puppy?"

Once transparency is added back into the engine there will be rips and tears on the trousers on the bare foot. Framerates were in the 80's for all the pics. The character has about 3800 tri's. All the detail in the ear was sculpted and comes from the normal map, the actual polys on the ear are totally flat, that just goes to show the power of the normal mapping shader! How's that for depth!

Wow, I waited way too long to reply to this thread. Sometimes I forget to check my posts, but anyway totally agree with you FredP I've got plenty of time to wait if we receive a quality engine! Jeremiah, I won't say anything...Dark AI should be sick I'm glad to hear thats be implemented.

Nice work bond, love the detail of the big tubby guy. And I agree all we see in screens is water, which is not interesting at all imo. And the screens look randomly built with no time spent on it, random whater filling up a hanger bay... We want some good screens!

Hehe yes I'm guilty, although the focus for my part is on the character, I should REALLY decorate the rooms more for these types of pics...and the water level is on by default. But I was so anxious to see this character in X10 that I just built the quickest room I could, those screengrabs were my first view of the character in X10. For future pics I promise I'll build a nicer room.

And remember X10 is still in beta, things are still changing, I'm sure when the time is right and things get finalized you'll see more pics from TGC themselves.

This FatBoy character you made does seem to have the quality I've seen in Bioshock. In FPSC X10, I would like to see games being made near to the quality of Crysis and Bioshock, if not the same.

It's best TGC takes some time to make FPSC X-10 the best engine we've ever seen for indie developers, and best stabled. If they can get the highest framerates they can muster, I'm all for it.

With this x10 engine, it seems like we can create some high poly characters now, with all kinds of detail.

@bond1

Did you pre-render your character before importing into FPSC X10, where the engine captured your renders, or did the engine render it on its own? "Curious about how models made in Blender 3D would look in this engine".

I hate being..... d'arvit can't post my age.....ummm.... well.... let's just say all the paper rounds in my area have been taken..... so I've got no chance of this.

But FredP gave me hope when he said that a lot of the new, non X10 exclusive features will be in X9.

Looking forward to DarkAI and ragdoll

Nope, this is 100% rendered in the X10 engine! The only thing that was pre-rendered, or baked, was the normal map and an ambient occlusion map mixed in at low opacity.

ALL the lighting and shading you see on the character is totally rendered in real-time by the X10 engine.

Maybe Lee should just do a directX9 version of X10 instead of upgrading fpsc.

please

i dont want to buy an X10 card, are they really that much better than my 7900?

This really has been explained many times before. DirectX 10 is so much different from DX9 from some viewpoints that they are quite "uncompatible" with each other. DX10 allows to do and show much more hi-quality visual candy at once without consuming that much CPU memory, thanks to some new features it supports. You can check some screenshots of FPSCX10 in action, showing some hi-quality 3D models with cool shaders and realistic shadow+lightining, and framerates stay above the good level all the time (something like 80fps is awesome!)

While some graphical things, like bloom and bump/normalmapping and shaders in overall can be done and has been done in DX9 games, they have always been kinda "extra features" on graphics, thus consuming the memory and decreasing the performance. On DX10 platform in other hand, these shaders and other features are "integrated" into the system, and are pretty much the must in graphical features.

That's pretty much all I can do to explain the DX10 without using all the strange technical-mumbo-jumbo- terms that even I'm not that familiar myself. What comes to your graphics card, it's kinda sad fact that it is already getting old, even more thanks to the Vista & DX10. I for example ordered a "dream PC" of mine last X-mas, but with WinXP and Nvidia's 7950GT 512mb. Obviously I noticed my mistake a bit later, now my card is a very hi-powered old piece of junk that can play most modern games with high settings, but won't play the next-gen DX10 games at all. But don't you worry, Lee promised that once the X10 is out, he will continue improving the DX9 version, with some cool features like ragdoll physics.

The funniest thing with the current 8000-series is that while they're superior compared to older Nvidias with their DX10 and Vista support, when used to play DX9 games they can be as good or even worse than the best 7000-series cards, especially the latest 8600-series.

I just got a BFG 8800 from a Radeon 9550, there is a difference, believe me. The only problem is that I had to get a new motherboard because I had an AGP slot not a PCIE. I'm geared up for DBX10 and FPSCX10 now though

Does anyone know if FPSC X10 will feature the use of a radar?
I noticed that is was in the old 2004 Walk-Thru Video on the FPSC home page, but obviously it's not in FPSC now... I read that there are scripts available but they really slow the game down... Infact I just read last night in a thread that someone found the radar code in the source but couldn't figure out how to cut it on...

Also, what about melee attacks?

And dare I say it, will vehicles be added at some point to FPSC X9/X10? As far as I can find TGC have said nothing on this and many forum topics ask about it. I'd just like an official word on whether or not they have it in there plans for the future... I mean just about every FPS game these days has some sort of vehicle in it.

This character is fantastic!

@everybody:
I downloaded the x10-demo but it didn't work because it "requires Vista & GeForce 8800"

My card is only a "NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400" but it is DX10 compatible (Video RAM: 130.0 MB, Video Card 3D Acceleration, Video HW Transform & Lighting, Vertex Shader 3.0, Pixel Shader 3.0)

DX10 is installed on my machine.

So what is wrong?

Will I be able to develop X10 games and see all the dx10-enhancements?

Wow congrats on awesome pics....but I am wondering,
since characters can open their mouths, can they blink their eyes?
Can their noses flare?

Also:
I would like to see....
1. Animated textures (like avi. or gif. for tv's, computers, etc.)
2. The possibility to assign lights to...entities, weapons, characters, etc. (like have a real working flashlight)
3. Different animations for weapons (reload 1, reload 2, fire 1, fire 2, fire 3, walk 1, walk 2, walk hurt, etc.)
4. Dynamic Damage (where you shoot an enemy there will be a gruesome bullet hole)
5. Dirrerent injury areas (If you shoot in the head or groin it is one shot kill, two shots for torso, and three shots for arms & legs.)
6. Also it would be cool to have a flamethrower weapon where if you hit the enemy their clothes will catch fire and they will slowly die.
7. Lipsyncing for characters....check out the lipsycing in The Movies to see what I mean.
8. In-game cutscenes (these things are practically standard on any fps game today)
9. in-game movie recording (so we don't have to use fraps )

Thank you, please take your time and make a high quality product.

I think these two points that trinity said are ensential:

1. Animated textures (like avi. or gif. for tv's, computers, etc.)
3. Different animations for weapons (reload 1, reload 2, fire 1, fire 2, fire 3, walk 1, walk 2, walk hurt, idle 1, idle 2, idle hurt, etc.)

the fire and reload anims would play randomly. Which would be great for melee weapons especially

I also think we need to be able to have over 16 bullet holes. So that we can make extra bullet holes for our melee weapons etc.

ok good, cuz on the website it says
Quote: "Requires Vista & GeForce 8800"

I find that slightly misleading,so they should've put "Requires Vista & DirectX 10 Video Card". Just thought you(TGC) should take that into consideration before promoting. Unless I'm wrong and thats the only place that that occurs. Oh well. wonderful

Yeah it is missleading but it's only because they made the site back when the GeForce 8800 was the only DX10 card out. Now we have many of them out.

Personally, I think the hud need a serious Makeover. Moke it look cooler instead of the dumb old arial. Put it all in a Compact space. I was toying with a screenie from a FPSC V1 Game and added an idea for an X10 Hud. It's super simple. I know I didnt add this but it would be nice to be given the name of the weapon when it is picked up. Hope you like my idea.

Is it possible to play the games you have made in a X9 card?

It would be REALLY stupid if it won't work, because its far from 20 % of the worlds computers who has it

@Slazor:
No. FPSC X10 uses, well, DirectX 10 - if it would work the games you have made on a X9 card, then it should by all means work when developing. Also that 20% is sure to change...

X10 will work on any of the Nvidia 8000 series. The 8600 is a little lacking in the memory department, but for an entry level DX10 card it's not shabby.
