Greetings all,
with 2 Lovecraft games already out I figured I wouldn't be a decent fan if I didn't try to make one myself. I'm doing it in Chapters, so there will be seperate downloads for each story.
The basic story-
Cameron Barker is an insurance investigator who gets sent on all the 'weird cases'.His task are quite simple, but his obsticles usually are not.
Chapter 1 -Return to En Boca. Based loosely on "The Shadow over InnsMouth" and the movie "Dagon"
A company has lost one of their financial genius's who was vacationing off of the coast of Spain when contact was lost. He has been presumed dead, but the company absolutely needs the laptop he had with him. Cameron must travel to the uncharted Isla de la En Boca (The Isle of InnsMouth)and deal with its barely human inhabitants to retrive the laptop.

Here is a progress pic of the town on the Island where you start on the docks after being ferried there by one of the locals. It's still pretty bare right now plus there aren't any lighting effects added yet. The whole town is built on a hill so the streets slant upward.

Thats looking really good,d13.
Although it still looks pretty good with the sky you are using,as it is an outdoor scene it might be a good idea to edit it some in your image program, whatever your using,to make it blend more with the fog, maybe adjust the hue a little to match.

I think fog does match pretty well with the skycube. The fog could be a little darker though. And the village looks fantastic. I can't wait to see it with lighting and more details.

@rolfy- accually it does match perfectly with the background, but at the middle. If this were completely outdoor enviroment like in a forest it would look better but considering it takes placed inside of a walled town and you can't see the middle of the skybox I think I will take your advice and make the fog match the upper portions of the skybox rather than the middle. Thanks for catching that. Any advice to help improve the overall look of the game is definitely welcome
@Owen- Thanks. I've been waiting for just the right project to use this one in; had it for like 2 years now and just didn't know what to do with it. It had a second meter going down that was the sanity guage but alas that is not possible with FPSC as of now.
@Nigezu-As mentioned above I may change the fog but I should also see what it would look like when I turn the ambiance down a bit and toss in some lights.Glad ya liked the village, It's all custom segments to give it an original look. I still need to add things like barrels and nets ect to give it more of a sleepy fishing village look.
@Bloodeath 6 6 6-Thanks, more screens coming right up. here is one from inside the town. Keep in mind it's still all just bare bones segments right now, but this one illustrates how the fog blends with the middle of the skybox rather than the top wich might be changed soon.

The game looks good, just to point out: En Boca in Spanish means "in mouth". Just to point that out so no Spanish people here get confused. (On a side note, I'm not at all Spanish, I'm just taking Spanish 1 in junior high)

This is Mad-Man. Copy Mad-Man into your sig so he can rule the FPSC boards. How to do it? }+:+)+the message after the smiley=domination!

Indeed it was used in the movie 'Dagon' wich is a slightly different interpitation of The Shadow over "InnsMouth". 'InMouth' was the closest translation they could come to in order to keep somewhat true to the Lovecraft story. It was a refreshing change to see how Lovecraftian type stories play out in a different culture other than 1930's NewEngland America. Presumably InnsMouth would mean a town famous for it's 'inns at the mouth of a river'. but "Mesón en la boca de un río" doesn't have quite the ring to it as 'EnBoca'

What did I tell you about making a game that’s better than mine I'm joking this looks absolutely fantastic since it's inns mouth we should get lot of half fish men right oh I can't wait this is going to be great and I mean this in the nicest way to Ertlov but I think a evil fishing village is way more scary and atmospheric that Anderson’s plot about Nazis oh and will the villagers be speaking in Spanish like in resident evil 4 and will the game be free? Oh and sorry about not posting sooner but I just noticed the game on the showcase from now on I’m going to keep an eye on this one

Quote: "since it's inns mouth we should get lot of half fish men "

Indeed here is a shot of the base model of a male EmBocan (InnsMouth resident) I hope to have some in game shots soon. He's presumably in some advanced stages of transformation or at least getting there.

As for Andersons's I see it's story and style as just a different facet of the same jewl that is Lovecraft. I'm sure he'll have some justa s creepy if not creepier elements in there. I can't wait for its US release.

Quote: "will the game be free?"

It will definitely be a free game done in much the same manner as your own, in chapters. This way I can at least have a finished game under my belt.

Quote: "will the villagers be speaking in Spanish like in resident evil 4"

No but they will have as best a half fish half man, English with Spanish accent as I can muster up.lol

Quote: "Silent hill and resident evil 4"

Silent Hill has a hint of Lovcraft in it and is a major influence on my stuff. RE4 borrowed allot of atmosphere and mannerisims from the whole Inn'smouth deal as well as a few other stories from Lovecraft.

Good model, but the forearms seem a bit too big. Also, the face texture isn't the best.

LOL, you would have to know what a 'deepone' is to understand why he looks the way he does. He looks much better animated. Thanks for the complemet though.

Love the game The character looks great, but the pants are bugging me. The inner legs seem to have a 'crotch crease' below where the crotch is. Other than that; fantastic.

The character reminds me of the 'Creature from the black lagoon' I think it's the eyes.I just see those hands becoming webbed and he is sure to sprout some gills,I think you are definately giving him the right characteristics here.

Ahh I see what your talking about now. Shouldnt be to hard to fix. Thanks for the heads up.

Quote: "'Creature from the black lagoon' "

You're not far off from what it's final transformation would look like. Not far at all. It's real subtle but you can see the reddish pink gills a bit starting under the chin and working its way down the newly formed jawline.

You have to insert this in your setuplevel.fpi.
http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=68105&b=23

this utilizes the heads that are there as a 10 pic hit bar(11 really-one for dead)but ofcourse you can change it to whatever graphic you want. I much rather have a visual representation for customization.if you save your original setup level you can change it and see the results even when testing by changeing it here- The Game Creators\FPS Creator\Files\languagebank\english\gamebank\mygame\setuplevel.fpi
hope that helped

@muggins majik-Thanks! will do.

@Black Terror- I found it in milkshape while connecting dots to make triangles, lol. No seriously, I make all my own segments and media so I have full control of polly usage. As of right now FPSC has way to much polly wastage in the stock media for my needs. Ide much rather have an exterior of a wall be 2 tris instead of a 12tri cube and then some. Floor and Cieling panels are also custom.

ON/Kinda OFF Topic-I must say the framerate is phenominal in FPSC version 1.05. because this level is huge and I rarely drop below a bareley noticeable 27, and thats only in some spots; most are 33. Plus the load time for the level is insanely fast right now.(haven't put in lighting yet) It takes longer to test than it does to load a compiled game.

I appreciate the help but it's not a zombie game. That's just the base model for only one of the enemies. I have to stay true to the story, otherwise I would just go crazy and throw in all sorts of demented things, wich will be later in another project.

well the story will be of my own. If you watch Dagon you can see where I pick up after the events there. It will be true to lovecraft in any possible way. i'm even trying to get the physics working propperly for the hotel attack scene. The ordr is definitely in.It wont be big so unfortunately no marsh refinery. Im using your example and making small episodes. After all this is a freebie distraction project for when I need to do something other than my longterm main project(yet to be announced)

indeed , This is a short 4 maybe 5 level freebie game with no high detail modeling. I'm making textures do the work for me. I have a large scale more professionally handeled game I'm working on and accually will be releasing a test level within the next few days of . But Emboca is just for fun and a distractionary project so I don't burn myself out on the big project. I wont be too skimpy on Emboca but it's more a throw together rather than a design doc and buget keeping game like my big project. Since the creeps and Freaks is has all ends tied now and I have the last bits of media for the completion of the test level of my big project, I will finish up Emboca. A second chapter to emboca may arise after it. I know I'm planning waay ahead of myself, but I kind of have to for the episode release kind of thing. I'm working bugs out of the villagers behavior right now, but soon you will definitely see more.

D13,

Drop me that character and I'll have a go at the texture. I've just been playing with you CNF3 stuff, and the UV maps are lovely. Would love to have a shot at improving the embocan for you!

working on the texture.. trying to make his top look a bit more wooly.

added some subtle viens to the arms and face, did a normal map, just because it looks nice.

Anyway, miles to go, but I just got it and it's 3am, so I'm off to bed!

Yeah, "en boca" means "in mouth", I'm Spanish, but the first time I read "enboca" in this thread I did notice its was just the name of a place, there are many places with "Spanish or Spaniard" names in several non-Spanish speaking country like "los angeles" or "las vegas" (USA) its such a normal thing, I don't think people who don't know Spanish will get confuse with it, an also the title its clear enough: "Return to EnBoca".

By the Way, the game looks awesone!

My two cents.

this game should most definitely be easy to do, i'm going ultra simple right now. Thanks for the offer I will most definitely keep it in mind, You'll be the first one I call on
As for Andersons, unfortunately no I havent recieved it. I'm still eagerly awaiting it, but I fear that either somewhere in customs it was lost or a swarm of migo intercepted the plane while shipping over seas. I played through the demo with the patch(wich helped tremendously by the way) and just got drawn in to a story I fear I may never finish. i havent given up hope. I make sure I check my mail everyday...even on sunday,ya never know when something will arrive from the graet oldones. My help is also still offered if you are doing a sequal. But yeah, not recieving it is the only reason I haven't commented on it yet.
