No, I like mods. Mods are good for you. But I was just wondering if there is a limit to their (seemingly almighty) power. Is there anything mods cannot actually do?

ok, we KNOW they can lock posts and sticky stuff and stuff. And they can noob slap and ban people. They delete your sig if it's too big or inappropriate and write something else there... But what else can they do?

For, example. Say my avatar was a pic of a woman in the nude... As it so happens I don't think the guy in my pic is wearing pants but he's a monster so who cares. But could a mod delete that, or change it? Or would they just ban me, which we already know they can do.
Or other things like if my username was a swearword. Can mods change it?

Anyone who knows anything about this please post.
If you are a mod please post.

Thank you for your time.

Respect the mods.

sinisterstuf

No, contrary to popular belief my name is not actually 'Sinister Stuff' but 'sinisterstuf', a misspelling resulting from the latter having too many characters with no spaces in between

I'm sure the mods have enough power to edit any part of a user's profile (except personal information) so if your username was a swear, then you might get banned and your name will be changed. If your signature was pornography, you might get banned and your signature removed.

The jobs are there to enforce the AUP at their discretion, so 'fair' treatment won't be equal treatment, but all relative to their judgment, the rule breaker and the severity of the situation and how many times the user has 'misbehaved', so you might get a warning, an edit with a warning, a newb slap or a ban for a period of time.

Alternatively, you ought to taste their pie, as Soapyfish rightly says, they're good.

We can change user names, signatures and avatars, but really if anyone put something inappropriate we'd ban them.

There's a few rare situations where extra measures are needed, like redirecting 'people' to barbie.com whenever they try to view the forum. I think that's only happened once or twice though .

The mods can fly I've heard. They have tamed dragons they ride on and they all are equipped with a storm wand + 200% flame accuracy and damage. These are only tales passed down by the forum elders though. The people whom legends has it, had access to a mod-creep for a short time due to witchery by the help of black-hatted rebels. Personally, I don't believe in old legends like that. But this one might be true considering what I've witnessed myself troughout these ~2.5 years creeping around with a focused eye on the swarm of messengers being sent to and from the TGC stronghold, as a mere peon.

This message was brought to you by Grandma industries.

I heard the mods don't actually have any power of their own, they are just a conduit for the mighty power of Chuck Norris.

You forgot the ancient legend that tells how they've mastered the obscure art of "Alttab".

Hm... ah well, chances are that about 10 people noticed it.

But as soon as a mod sees this thread it'll be gone.

Ok cool. Well, thanks everyone, for the stuff that was true and the stuff that was fantasy. It is all very helpful to my plan, but I can't tell you what it is, it's a secret. But all will be revealed... Someday.

Being a mod sounds so cool. How can you direct people to a different site? That sounds really cool! And what did these people do to make you do that to them!? And if you can change names then can you fix mine please 'cause it annoys. The signup form messed it up. It's supposed to be sinisterstuf not Sinister Stuff? Please?

Now, the next question! This needs atleast one answer for every mod.
Mod: if you were an NPC in an RPG (I'm not saying that you are, but if you were)... What cool power would you have?
non-Mod: (This is for mods who don't respond) what cool power do YOU think mod would have?

I don't actually have a list of names of all mods, that would be useful. Yeah, so please people. Come on and be creative.

No, contrary to popular belief my name is not actually 'Sinister Stuff' but 'sinisterstuf', a misspelling resulting from the latter having too many characters with no spaces in between

I tried changing your name to sinisterstuf but the forum requires some spaces in the name if the length is that long. I'm not sure why, but Rich is the forum creator and he knows all

@Punk13 - If you email me the name of the guy who has the link in his profile, I can try to remove it. Thanks.

Theres the top secret mods only board that us mere mortals never gave upon, oh and the Nuke button, the most powerful tool that the moderators posses. edit: Wait, was the Nuke button a joke? Maybe I'm getting confused.

Tom, I would guess the Nuke button is something along the lines of either a ban button or a delete button.

The powers for mods varies from site to site but most mods have the power to:
Ban, infract, modify/delete posts, as well as edit profile options such as email, user name, avatars and signatures.

Then Admins have total control over the entire site.
although I think TGC has just 1 admin which is Rich and he is no longer active.

Jeku, is there more than one Admin here? Because Rich is the only one I have noticed. Unless Lee and Rick V are as well.

Except how to fix the numerous bugs. jk

What kind of stuff is in the Mod board, btw? If it's not against the rules, and not an invasion of privacy, can we mere mortals see a screenshot of the board? It's interesting is the reason why I'd like to see it.

Cheers,

All thats in there is talk about the happenings of the site.
You know stuff like: Should we ban user A for what he did in thread B?
Or should we add a new board to the site?

Just stuff like that.
Dont worry there isnt any plotting going on.

It wouldn't be right to post a screenie of the board--- just imagine Geek Culture, only with mods, and you have the mod board.

The nuke button is the most powerful destructive source ever given to anyone on this forum. I shed a tear when it was introduced

That kind of thing is not my business. TGC is located in the UK, and forum mods are not employees.

I don't know who is an employee or not, I just know that most (if not all) the moderators are volunteer We don't get paid, but that's not to say we don't get fun perks. TGC are pretty generous compared to other forums I hear.

Knowing what the mods talk about in their private boards is like what girls do at slumber parties...not that.

They play games, spread rumours about members, play truth or dare and sometimes reveal who they fancy. You know tha_rami? Well apparently one night Jeku tried to spread the rumour that he converted to Blitz3D, terrible isn't it? How I know? Well I aspire to be a tabloid journalist, so I need skills in making up a load of rubbish.

Im sure it is. TGC is also a company and can give their mods discounts and other nice things. Forums I mod for dont do that.
But yea most forums have volunteer mods.

Single best line in there. Grandma, you would make a great D&D player, lol.

@Any mod: Okay, I've been trying to change my email address for this forum for almost a year now and I never get the confirmation email. I think it has to do with the ports my ISP has blocked. I'm not happy about it, but it seems they've taken the liberty to block several mail ports or something. We had to call their tech support in order for another sites newsletter to be let through, and all it was was a health webzine thing. Is it possible for you guys to change it without requiring a confirmation email? If one of you mods would be as so kind as to email me if you have that power, I would greatly appreciate it. I'm always afraid my name will be drawn in the newsletter and my old email will come up and I'd be doomed, lol

Yeah, a good deal of us mods here are volunteers. Most of us have also contributed freeware of some sort to TGC in some shape or another. Speaking in general, we enjoy being apart of this community which is why most of us have hung around so many years.

It all really depends (I guess), I suppose really if the forum needs you and you're willing to take the responsibility, not like getting extra credit to become a hall monitor.

Yes I remember that, it was the same time I declared hatred for Dazzag. Think, that much pain came from a little rumour, that's the reason why little girls shouldn't have sleep-overs and moderators have private boards.

Last time more moderators were needed I believe Rich (forum name Richard Davey if you want to search for the thread) made a thread basically saying more mods were needed, especially in different time zones, and asked the forum as a whole to suggest people they thought would make good mods. It really doesn't happen very often although if you are an exceptional member of the community somebody may create a thread suggesting you be given moderator status. I believe this was the case with Jess T although I may be wrong.

EDIT::
If you're interested, which you obviously are, here's the thread where Rich asked for suggestions for new mods
and here's the thread where Jess T was given mod status

So how do I fix this this? I've emailed tech support at TGC multiple times, but, they probably ignore the part of 'hey, don't email me back at this address' and send it to my old email. Either that or the tech support is lame. I hear it's just one person... is this true?
