well people say there is going to be a super volcano that screws the earth and people die after a 74 year cycle but... no scientific evidence of a super volcano 74000 years ago

me = confused

Quote: "Scientific experts from around the world are genuinely predicting that five years from now, all life on Earth could well finish. Some are saying it'll be humans that set it off. Others believe that a natural phenomenon will be the cause. And the religious folks are saying it'll be God himself who presses the stop button...

1. Mayan Calendar

The first mob to predict 2012 as the end of the world were the Mayans, a bloodthirsty race that were good at two things:

Building highly accurate astrological equipment out of stone and
Sacrificing Virgins.

Thousands of years ago they managed to calculate the length of the lunar moon as 329.53020 days, only 34 seconds out. The Mayan calendar predicts that the Earth will end on December 21, 2012. Given that they were pretty close to the mark with the lunar cycle, it's likely they've got the end of the world right as well.

2. Sun Storms

Solar experts from around the world monitoring the sun have made a startling discovery: our sun is in a bit of strife. The energy output of the sun is, like most things in nature, cyclic, and it's supposed to be in the middle of a period of relative stability. However, recent solar storms have been bombarding the Earth with so much radiation energy, it's been knocking out power grids and destroying satellites. This activity is predicted to get worse, and calculations suggest it'll reach its deadly peak sometime in 2012

3. The Atom Smasher

Scientists in Europe have been building the world's largest particle accelerator. Basically its a 27km tunnel designed to smash atoms together to find out what makes the Universe tick. However, the mega-gadget has caused serious concern, with some scientists suggesting that it's properly even a bad idea to turn it on in the first place. They're predicting all manner of deadly results, including mini black holes. So when this machine is fired up for its first serious experiment in 2012, the world could be crushed into a super-dense blob the size of a basketball.

4. The Bible says...

If having scientists warning us about the end of the world isn't bad enough, religious folks are getting in on the act aswell. Interpretations of the Christian Bible reveal that the date for Armageddon, the final battle between Good an Evil, has been set down for 2012. The I Ching, also known as the Chinese book of Changes, says the same thing, as do various sections of the Hindu teachings.

5. Super Volcano

Yellowstone National Park in the United States is famous for its thermal springs and Old Faithful geyser. The reason for this is simple - it's sitting on top of the world's biggest volcano, and geological experts are beginning to get nervous sweats. The Yellowstone volcano has a pattern of erupting every 650,000 years or so, and we're many years overdue for an explosion that will fill the atmosphere with ash, blocking the sun and plunging the Earth into a frozen winter that could last up to 15,000 years. The pressure under the Yellowstone is building steadily, and geologists have set 2012 as a likely date for the big bang.

6. The Physicists

This one's case of bog-simple maths mathematics. Physicists at Berekely Uni have been crunching the numbers. and they've determined that the Earth is well overdue for a major catastrophic event. Even worse, they're claiming their calculations prove, that we're all going to die, very soon - while also saying their prediction comes with a certainty of 99 percent- and 2012 just happens to be the best guess as to when it occurs.

7. Slip-Slop-Slap-BANG!

We all know the Earth is surrounded by a magnetic field that sheilds us from most of the sun's radiation. What you might not know is that the magnetic poles we call north and south have a nasty habit of swapping places every 750,000 years or so - and right now we're about 30,000 years overdue. Scientists have noted that the poles are drifting apart roughly 20-30kms each year, much faster than ever before, which points to a pole-shift being right around the corner. While the pole shift is underway, the magnetic field is disrupted and will eventually disappear, sometimes for up to 100 years. The result is enough UV outdoors to crisp your skin in seconds, killing everything it touches."

There's a giant quote off of the internet that states why the world will end lol.

Well, you asked for the reasons, as strange as some may sound. It is a scary coincidence that there are so many things in 2012 that are predicted to go wrong. It will be interesting to see how people react on the day of and days leading up to December 12 seeing how they reacted in 2000, and that was only a worse case scenario of computers being confused as to whether it was 1900 or 2000, not world destroying scenarios.

Well when yellow stones super volcano goes then most of the human population will go with it. Because of all the crap that will be sent into the air. The sun will be blotted out long enough to keep our crops from going and we will end up killing ourselves somehow, or we might just lose enough people to be thrown back to the stone age for the second time...

I think yellowstone's volcano is kind of like a grenade. If you jump on a grenade it won't have a large enough explosion to kill those around you, so if we just put like 1,000 people in the volcano then we should be fine... haha.

The end of the world has been predicted plently of times before, I remember seeing a show saying that there would be a nuclear holocaust in 2006, because "The Bible Code" said so.

I didn't think the mayans prediceted the end of the world anyway? Didn't their calendar just stop on the said date? Couldn't it mean anything, or nothing?

This is an outright lie. The Bible does not set any date for the end of all things. And furthermore, it tells us we cannot know when it will happen.

Well atleast Norway will survive. Didn't they build a doomsday vault that is super strong and has enough seeds in to grow crops for a million years or something? lol

Well this all doesn't sound too optimistic, being on the same date and all. But what if in 2012 hamsters all over the world get their hands on a mass supply of steroids which they consume overnight so they grow to the size of umbrellas. Then they chew threw the world's power cables and destroy humans and civilisation as we know it while the humans are cowering in the dark. Revenge is sweet. Maybe the will let some of us serve them as slaves... Or keep us as pets in cages with wheels and laugh at us running mindlessly...

Well i predicted HL3 to come out in 2012. So maybe when hl3 comes out everyone will play it because it will be so awesome, then all the pc's will need such good hardware it will suck stacks of power across the globe resulting in power overload which could make nuclear power plants become unstable and blow up making radiation spread all over the world killing everyone.

As far as the Mayan prediction is relevant, calculating the end of the world to be 2012 is wrong. That's just the end of a baktun, which usually is a celebrated event. The end of the world, as indicated by the Mayans, would be somewhere in a few thousand years.

The ending of a baktun is quite often, honestly, for example, in 1618. Nothing happened in 1618, did there now? And why the heck is there such a thing as a calabtun, a far larger value than the baktun, if the world ends at the end of the 13th baktun?

Hey, don't forget global freezing!

Most people have heard about ice ages: the earth periodically gets rather cold and covered in ice, which sets life back somewhat. But the amount of time that the earth has been covered in ice is in fact longer than the amount of time the earth is warm. Put simply, Earth is actually an ice planet which is undergoing one of its seasonal warm periods. The whole of human history has occurred in a relatively balmy patch of weather. We're overdue another ice age, and if it happened then that would be rather bad and make life extremely difficult.

Not to mention the constant threat of direct meteor strikes or being caught in a supernova from another star.

Wow, when you think about it, humankind is actually pretty lucky to have got this far at all! I should probably stop thinking about this now...

Actually, yes there is. Sediments from Yellowstone can still be found around the planet if I'm not mistaken. They're known to be found in Northern Europe.

Quote: "Hey, don't forget global freezing!

I should probably stop thinking about this now..."
