Hi,

If you have a Facebook account you can now add the Social Arcade application and start making games!

http://apps.new.facebook.com/socialarcade/

Note: Do not use Google Chrome, it does not add the application properly!

Please give us plenty of feedback. We are in Alpha version here. Lots more to do but we wanted to get it out there and see what people think.

Space is the action button which will jump for players in platform games or shoot for games like "Boom". At the moment we have restricted games to the Platform genre for initial Alpha release. There are some examples of shooting though made like Boom and Tanky.

Very quickly the behaviours available will increase as we develop more and more - next week will see a rake of new ones appearing.

I can't believe you deleted my game! It was brilliant - he could walk through land and...stuff*. It was unique!

Call me a Facebook numpty, but is there a way to share a link to this with my contacts?

* Actually, there was no other stuff that he could do.

I have a bug to report, I took an enemy, the ``green alien`` and set him as a player to move and shot in 4 directions, he moves fine if I click left or right, but if I click down, then right, he stays facing down, but moves right.

Is there a way to customize the characters behaviors?

[Edit] I found the answer, doubble click on the item/character etc.
But now I encountered a new problem: I can unselect a "brush", if I choose for example a fruit, paste it into the scene and then want to select it or another item I cant. Really annoying!

BIG - you can select anything by single clicking on it, click and drag to move it, click on it again to open up properties / behaviours, click again to hide prop / behaviours

press the delete key to delete it while it is selected

if you are finding you have an item "stuck" to your cursor (which sounds like what you are saying) then you have the stamp tool active - hit the stamp button again to turn it off and you wont have anything attached to your cursor.

I fixed that problem Satchmo

There is a new item today, the checkpoint flag (under items) when this flag is walked over by the player it will allow him to restart from that position rather than the start (cant place as many as you wish).

Other things being added this week:

Spikes, Darts, Keys & locked doors, players ducking, slides, trampolines.

A suggestion: A "triggerzone" wich either plays a sound, shows a simple text or both. Like a radiocall wich starts with the sound of a radio, then a text appears wich tells the player what to do.

Social Arcade now has the following features added;

Checkpoint markers: When your hero player reaches a marker, this will be the point that he'll reappear should he die.

Darts: We've added some walls that shoot darts left and/or right. Ideal for those inca, cave type games.

Conveyor belts: Moving platforms can now be added to make your platform games more fun and puzzle based.

Coming in the next few days;

Player will be able to duck down and avoid darts
Your player can pick up keys and open doors
Dissolving blocks as you walk over them
Spikes that come up and down
New floor types - lava, poison
Trampolines

These are just some of the new controls we're adding, much more will follow. Thanks for helping us to create Social Arcade.

Hi Serge, I played the game. A nice starter game. Now make it bigger and more challenging! Later today Dave is adding in keys and doors, so you can add more puzzle elements to your game.

Hi, I gotta say I'm really loving using this app. Just wondering, will the user at some point in the future be able to include their own gfx, and/or edit the ones that are already in place?

Keep up the fantastic work

flickenmaste - would be cool to support flash 8 but there is a Facebook policy that they only support version 9.

I have different versions running on different browsers (Firefox has release version of flash, I.E Debug version).

One idea I had is:
Say you removed flash from all browsers and removed any browsers. Then you install Flash 9. Then you install another browser (which then won't have flash installed) and install Flash 8 which will only get applied to the new browser since the other has a more recent version.

I.E. is the worst performance for Flash 9, so you might want to have Flash 9 on a second browser (Firefox) and Flash 8 on a third (Safari maybe).

Unfortunately as cool as Chrome seems, it has serious compatibility issues with Facebook at the moment.

Roast potatoes are the way forward. Anybody who disagrees should be cast out from society.

Anyway, I think Social Arcade is pretty good!

Jumping feels a little blocky, it doesn't flow as well as some games, like Mario or Braid.
you can also jump clean over the doors, which defeats the object a tad.

Maybe increase the walking speed, so the game plays at a faster pace. Perhaps add the classic bounce, when you land on an enemy.

But I very much like the concept. Hope you can implement a feature for custom graphics, that would be very smart.

I've also experienced a fair few bugs with the moving platforms.
Sometimes the collision just doesn't register, causing the player to pass through. Usually occurs when the platform is in motion.

Thumbs up from me though! Look forward to future updates.

[EDIT] About the jumping/movement, I think it has a certain charm. I'm torn between really liking it and thinking, could it be better?
It could turn out if you make the movements more like Mario, the gameplay would be worse. [/EDIT]

Will there be an option for more 'code' fun? Going in and making our enemies a little more extreme?
