*Gag*. I had heard several people say that it was so awesome, so I watched it with a group of friends one night. It is honestly the worst/stupidest movie I have ever seen . Waaayyy too weird for me, I'm not a Tarentino fan .

@ Gil - Didn't like Inglorious Basterds? Kill-Bill?

Tarantino's dialogue and juxtaposition are amazing. Can't see any films in your list that are too heavy on that though, besides maybe Children of Men, so I understand you not liking Tarantino.

Also, how is Pulp Fiction way to weird? I'm curious, as I think it's one of the best movies I have ever seen.

Children of Men, great mention Gil, that movie is breathtaking. Michael Caine always seems to be the best actor in whatever he's in, even in smaller roles.

Remind me to avoid your movie reviews/recommendations

I mean, the cast alone in PF is amazing, not to mention the film itself

Some of my favorites:

The Truman Show

The Matrix (a cliched choice, but the more I watch it the more I marvel at what a brilliantly constructed film it is. The sequels dampen it, but the original is truly fantastic)

Full Metal Jacket ("John Wayne, is that you?" "Is this me?")

My personal favorites (in no particular order):

-The Mummy

-The Mummy Returns

-A Beautiful Mind

-Back to the Future Trilogy

-Lord of the Rings Trilogy

-Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure

-Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey

-The Rundown

-Flight of the Phoenix (original and the remake with Dennis Quaid)

-Frequency

I know there's more, but those are the only ones I can think of at the moment. Bill & Ted are very silly movies, but they're fun to watch when you're bored and enjoy movies about time traveling.

I thought Children of Men was a very well done film, but I found it boring and amazingly depressing (a film like the Death Race remake entertained me more in comparison, and I didn't think that was a particularly good film).

I'd recommend the Back To The Future trilogy.

Also:
-Matrix trilogy
-Almost anything by Quentin Tarantino
-Wayne's World
-Monty Python and the Holy Grail
-The life Of Brian
-James Bond movies
-Letters From Iwo Jima
-Into The Wild
-Airplane!

...and many more...

@up: Yes, but the book was far better...

I've watched tons of movies, yet I think SAW is my fav of all time. I've only seen parts of SAW 1, 2 and 4 and only seen 3, but I love it and I'm hopefully buying the rest soon. The critics said SAW VI wasn't good though "/. Still, I think SAW III was great, brilliant acting and the ending was fantastic xD. I'm a sick dude, I didn't even look away at ANY traps whatsoever . And not to reveal too much of my age, I'm not even 18...yet.

Quote: "Die Hard"

That's the B&W one with Brucey ain't it? Loved that, gave me a laugh in some parts.

Quote: "Lord of the Rings Trilogy"

Hated LOTR, probably one of the worst films I've seen IMO. The only thing which impressed me was the CGI and that was it.

I haven't seen either in their entirety, but the parts I've seen, I wasn't impressed, although IB was tolerable . I thought the plot was like something constructed by someone on some sort of illegal drug . The acting was good, I will give it that. But the story itself was so random and outlandish, the direction overly "artsy", and the humor not funny to me, that I just couldn't appreciate it. I guess it's like abstract art, where some people can appreciate the beauty of it, others just see it as plain stupid.

Yes, it is, forgot to add that one to my list.

It seems that people on here seem to like films that are relatively straight forward with no sub-plots or hidden meanings. Shooter was a terrible film.
Pulp Fiction or Full Metal Jacket are definitely near the top of my list but I love a lot of films so I can't really pick a single film for the number one spot.

The first 3 are epic, but 4 onwards begins to fail storyline-wise. The only good part about SAW VI apparently was the flashbacks from SAW III with Amanda (you'll know her if you've seen either of SAW I-III) .

How could I forget Citizen Kane.

Some may think I am throwing that in to be all film-nobbish, but it is actually an amazing movie. For it's time, it was ground-breaking, and even now it is a deep and profound film. Completely worth watching. If you get a chance, that is one movie that isn't worth missing.

Shawshank Redemption is the most over-rated film of all time. It's not a bad film at all. Surely not the best; same with Pulp Fiction. People jumping on the bandwagon.

The Green Mile - same director - is a superior film.

Gladiator, Full Metal Jacket & The Matrix have been mentioned - all excellent films.

Rifftrax is made by the same people who did the voices for Mystery Science Theater 3000. It's basically a commentary that runs over the movie, but it makes the movies much more entertaining in my opinion.

I guess it's all a matter of preference. I like 300 because I find it beautifully and artistically done and directed, Dark Knight has excellent acting and action, I Am Legend was an interesting and intense sci-fi story with some great acting, and Iron Man is a great mix of humor, action, and semi-believable sci-fi.
