Is that sky box made with terragen? I would like to see some desert sky boxes, Hell's Half Acre. style. All the good space movies are filmed there.

Including Starship Troopers.

That one is a desert skybox, but I have ask Gencheff to make a couple of skyboxes for the pack. He is alittle busy right now, but will let me know when he is done or can do it.

Thanks. Making the initial 3d model is the easy part for me, it's the rest of it that I pretty much completely suck at or can't even grasp how to do.

I also made a forcelance (non-extending) style weapon from Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda if anyone wants to have a go at texturing it and weapon rigging it...there seems to be a shortage on different style sci-fi weapons.

Thanks! for those of you that have the animated flag from lowpoly, here is something I will include in the pack. Not the model just the new textures for the flags. I would give you the model, but I have been trying to make a free one in blender most of the afternoon. Blender just won't export shapekeys. I can make some simple hanging flags, but I have some animating yet to do on the bugs.

Anyways enjoy the screenie.

I found a thread talking about how to do animated flags...not sure if it'll help with how to do it with blender, but thought for anyone that understands the scripting it might help.

@Seth Back: The message I had posted with the link to the flag thread was more for starmind 001 since he was talking about blender not exporting shapekeys. I thought maybe that would help him figure something out. I guess I should have been more specific. lol

Here's the video on the flag and here it is in the store.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2pGrCXLUhk

Also that won't help with blend shapes. You see the process that I did to get the flags to animate is like so.

I apply a cloth modifier to a plane, bake those animations and then export those animations as a .mdd file. Once exported, I reimport it and it will make a mesh with no modifiers, but fully animated. Now when I export that animation from blender to fragmotion or milkshape the animations are lost. This is my problem.

I wrote lowpoly and he said that he used 3ds max to do the export, so I am out of luck here at making a free one for all of you.

@ starmind I have sent you the skyhook model. as for the flag I think I saw a tutorial for it in 3dsmax, so I'll give it a try, at the moment i'm making your plasma beatle.

Here is a shot of the W.I.P I could use more referance< but I think I can get it close.

I have a Starship Trooper skybox I did yonks back, I am full on busy at the moment so you will have to have it when I am on the computer it on and I happen to be using the folder its in, but its there and perfect for this. You may have to wait a while though, I barley get time to eat, never mind chase content down, unfortunatly I am hellish busy making a large game project, but i will find it for you, its just when thats the problem.

since someone mentioned needing the bug holes I did up a quick proof to try and figure out how to make it. I designed it to be an edge of map one with a ramp on the inside and enough room for two or three spawn points. Let me know what yall think and if you want me to keep messing around with this

Sorry bud and yes that will work.

I was trying to get better walking animations for the warrior bug, so I imported it into blender and made a quick animations and some how I tricked myself into making a short min video with the warrior and the new skyhook or dropship whatever you want to call it.

I am trying to get Conjured to write the scripts for the bugs, but I have not heard from him.

Enjoy!

@Zwarte Piet: It looks really good so far. Only thing I noticed and it might just be me, but it looks like it is too far up from the ground. From the way it looks in the movie and the reference photos I've seen online, it looks like they raise their butts and lower their front section when they are about to fire. With how offset in size their hind end is compared to their front end it should be lower to the ground in a normal stance to give it a lower center of gravity.

When modeling it's best to think of the animator. That way when the animator gets it he or she can make the adjustments. besides I have been watching all the movies and the animated series to get the animations right and when the plasma bug is at rest or getting ready to move that is its position.

okay my apologies then. With not knowing how to do animation I hadn't considered that it's stance would be different once animated and how the other positions would change the appearance. I'm still glad I mentioned it thou because now I learned something new.

@ VoicesDark That's a good eye for detail you have. Thank you for your observation. I am glad Starmind has told you why it looks so out of balance. the way it sits before mapping and animation. it would fall over.. I really like your insect mounds perfect for cliff mites. I was wandering if you wanted to try your hand at the shot below, size of largest should be 1 floor segment, it would be great with the spawn points

@ starmind Ialso did not adjust the scale of the plasma beetle. I was not sure on size. I'm working on a few helmets, and a Arkellian Sand Beetle/Chariot Bug, I think we need some small lower poly enimies to swarn the player, I will also try some cliff mites.

Yeah I can give those a try no problem, only thing though is I don't know the actual dimensions of a segment size so if someone could let me know I'd greatly appreciate it. something they had in the movie too was the bug hole at whiskey outpost where the bugs came3 up through the floor to surprise attack. I haven't learned the scripting language yet but if I understand it enough at this point couldn't we make an underground room with a spawn point in it and then have a short hall and make the craters with invisible lifts in them to make it look like they are coming up directly from the ground?

okay so being the masochistic kinda guy I am I took your crater idea you wanted done and modeled it for a "two for one". Figured once some gets around to texturing it they could scale it down for the 1 segment sized ones and upscale it for the tank(?) bug too I have no idea how to make a lift, let alone an invisible one, so if someone else could do that part as well please then we've got the bug coming up from the ground galore.

I Finished the Constrictor. Three issues you might encounter when UVing/animating/rigging: it is way off scale for fpsc, it is 2,204 polys which is a problem... and some of the faces are in the wrong vertex order. The grenade launcher should be done by next Wednesday, but no promises on that.

I have been trying to get better animations for the two models that Zwarte. The ones I did in milkshape just wasn't doing it for me, so all has been stripped down to and imported to blender for faster and better animations. I want the brain bug to have say a softbody look.

They are looking for so far as you can see from my last video. Also the binos hud will be in the pack and I have made huds similar to the starship troopers game for health, armor and when Cp send me the weapons, I will make those as well.

Quote: "it is 2,204 polys"
Your polys are fine, I always try to keep my weapons 3,000 polys and below. Are you using milkshape for your models?

Design runner, I have taken your model of the constrictor an remade it with less polys. I thought that you can see how I reduced them for future use. When making a model you will also need to think of how to texture the model and that goes for how you want it to be animated.

When I make a model, I try to limit the detail of the model unless I am going for a high poly bake. This means only get the basic shape of the model and the rest comes out in the texture. Once I have the texture done then I regroup all parts of the mesh that will be non animated, this the main body. Then I can start animating.

Now if I need to send the file to someone that can do a texture say like Cp, I send it to him in .obj format. He prefers this for texturing, but most on here prefer it that way as well.

I hope this helps you and others for future models. If not, google low poly models tutorials. This is how I started.

I have the archie done for the animations. Tell me what you guys think. Sorry it's about six seconds. but Cp did such a great texture job, that I could let it go without some good animations.

The animations go like this:
death 1
death 2
spawn/call
idle
walk/run
attack 1
attack 2
hit reaction

Enjoy!!

Great work on the beetle. I set the archie's speed to 200, but it likes to push you around still. I need someone that can script to fix everything so it works like they are supposed to.

Any takers?
