I use Vista.
I love it, too. When I first saw it I hated it. Now I love it and it's my favorite OS.

I always had a soft spot for Windows2000Pro, was so stable and capable, especially compared to WinME. I kept it for ages after XP was released, I tend to drag my heels with MS stuff .

Seriously look into windows 7.

Vista is far inferior. VISTA SHALL DIE.

Why? It costs a lot of money, and for many of us Vista does the job just fine.

I cant remember where my mom went to to get it, but she got Windows 7 professional for me, for around $60. It was an educational deal. And it wasnt an upgrade, it was the whole thing. Then my dad got Windows 7 from the government for free (1 license as he works for IT security. )

So if you have an .edu email look for deals. If not, i guess your out of luck.

but at the moment im stuck using my laptop, and it cant handle windows 7 so im using XP.

If you have a lot of machines I'd look into MS Technet. For ~$200 you get access to like 8 windows keys (2 home, 2 pro, 2 ultimate, 2 pro-n) as well as their ISO's plus a bunch of other stuff like xp and vista keys. Way better than buying keys individually.

Are you sure? My Lenovo r61 with 1gb ram and an intel celeron ran it extremely well.

It depends more on your processor than your RAM. RAM just enables you to run smoother desktop effects and whatnot, along with your graphics card of course. If you know what processes to kill and what bloatware to uninstall, Windows 7 runs like a dream.

I just now realized I've had a typo in my signature for the past 3 years.

Agreed, that's what I do! It's cheaper than buying Windows standalone, as the 2nd year the price reduces to $150 a year. It also comes with tons of other MS software like Office.

word man

as for windows 7 taking up too much memory, i recentley upgraded my 4 gigs to 8 gigs and all my problems are gone. turns out 7 really does eat a ton of memory, but now i always have more than half my memory unused.

Same here. I miss 2kpro.

Win7 is far easier on memory than Vista. I'll have to reboot into 7 to see how many processes and ram it uses on startup. I know on XP I start up with 40 something, which ain't bad.

hmmm i know that alot of you have had problems with different releases of oses... On thing that most people dont realise is that when your developing an os your developing for and infinate number of hardware setups. My uncle uses windows me on his pc (an older pc) and has no compatibility problems whatsoever and has the most reliable experience that he has ever had. Bugs are going to be common for any human made software and youll always find people that are going to find ways that its broken. Just imagine the inovation in the products that your using though... when you delete in windows 9x - current... you have the ability to un-delete (recycle bin) win 3.0 3.11, dos, this isnt something you could do.... (without technical training)... I remember when ghost images were developed... what crazy tech... not to say that people shouldnt expect the best from the latest... just realize that things are moving forward and that you dont have a command prompt to run your apps... (though i cant say that ive ever used anything more reliable then dos... ) Anyway... thats my thoughts...

You are so lucky. The version I had was constantly locking. Infact the only thing that ever ran right on it and did not cause the dreaded green circle was was DBP
