Indeed. Heck, even my PC from 2002 runs it. Obviously someone has a lot of issues.

I just now realized I've had a typo in my signature for the past 3 years.

Most browsers use a different plugin. I know that Firefox uses a different plugin than Chrome or Internet Explorer (which I highly discourage use of).

I have trouble with Flash, and my computer's got a dual core processor (2.10GHz), 4GBs of RAM and a fairly decent graphics chip (though it's integrated, it does run games fairly nicely). So I understand JoelJ's comment. Sometimes, Flash-based games or apps just aren't very fast, but some others can be. I think it depends on who codes the app.

The iPad 2 looks pretty damn awesome. If I had the money, I would get one. Not even kidding. Owning that and a MacBook Pro would make me very, very happy.

Flash is awful on everything except Windows.

Random video playback issues, crashing tabs, weird rendering issues (e.g. scrolling on some pages with flash content), poor HW accel support, inability to search the content and seemingly a total disregard for Linux too

These issues don't pop up all the time (for quite a lot of the time Flash is fairly stable, for example) - but issues still occur too regularly for a plugin which we entrust for a huge amount of content on the web.

Especially considering the bloody thing has been about since... what, 1996? It has been 15 years and I still can't say it's reliable or mature

The iPad has a 1Ghz dual core. It could easily run Flash. The question is... would you want to? I sure as hell wouldn't.

This is true too. I could write a Flash app with an infinite loop that would probably kill a browser or two

Well, my phone support hdmi output, is apparently only slightly slower than the iPad2 (I assume, due to duel coreness of iPad2), supports flash... WELL NOW.

So, because Flash might run poorly on an iPad, that is a good reason to not let it??????

I have a question again, I was hoping more than one person could answer it...

So, yeah. I have some questions.

Can someone tell me why they think an iPad 2 is a good device to spend their money on?
and then,
Why is the iPad 2 preferable to a tablet running a real OS?

Yes, really. Like David said, flash is fine on windows. I have a 6 core hyper threaded i7 with 12gb ram and a SSD (I doubt the drive makes a difference in this case though) and even YouTube has a hard time sometimes. Running 64bit fedora and ubuntu. Adobe focusses on windows. I doubt adobe would be able to/spend the money to get flash to perform any better on iOS than on Linux or android.

I got mine to develop for. It's mostly just a toy. It's great to browse the Internet and read with.
The OS question is subjective, but I would say the benefit is security (compared to windows anyway) and battery life. iOS is lightweight. The flip side would be that a windows based tablet would be more flexible. You could theoretically run/do anything on that tablet as you could on a laptop or desktop computer.

I really wish Apple had designed a variant of Mac OS X to put on the iPad instead of just iOS. But I guess if they wanted efficiency, they made the right choice. It just might not have been the best one.

@CoffeeCoder: I said the same thing when the first iPad came out. But since then iOS has grown up a lot. The iOS sdk has some neat features that are iPad only (like proper popup menus). And since iOS 4 came out with the different multitasking features, it's actually quite nice. The retrictions on the app store are more restrictive than the OS, in my opinion.

Do you have to use iTunes on a jail-broken iDevice? That is one of my main gripes with iOS.

No. And I haven't tried in a while, but with ubuntu you can sync your iPhone with Rhythmbox (ubuntu's default music player). That doesn't require a jailbreak either.
