It's almost here! Portal 2 gets released on April 19th!
Finally a break from all the standard games for some real gameplay.

I'm very excited... At first I had doubts when seeing the Co-op robots, because it seemed like the game would end up a lot more cartoony. However, that isn't the case. From everything I've seen, it will be amazing. Not to mention, the Potato Sack ARG is one of the largest and most complicated ARGs I have seen for a game...
Valve also released a comic, which explains the gap between the two games.http://www.thinkwithportals.com/comic/

So, anyone else as excited as me?

I'll certainly be interested in what they come up with, but I don't want to get my hopes up. Portal was fabulous in every conceivable way and I'm not sure that *anyone* could improve upon it - and part of its charm was how short and neat it was. Now that they've thrown more money at it, I'm not sure if it'll be the same experience as before.

Of course, it might be *even better*. It's possible. But I'm not getting too hyped about it because I just think it's rather unlikely.

The puzzles will probably still be mind-bendingly fantastic, though. So I guess there's always that.

I see your point... I always thought of the length of the first Portal as more of a downfall though. Once you could really start enjoying more complicated puzzles, the game ended. Most of the game taught the player the gameplay. The first game was more of an experiment than a full game.

I'd get your hopes up. Since when did Value ever make a mistake? They know what they're doing and REALLY take their time. Just an opinion though.

P2 will be great, can't wait. But 1 WHOLE week... I hope I'll make it. Odds are 70-30 no, but, who knows.

Left4Dead.

But still, I'm hoping this is a return to Valve's form. Linear, story-based, and oh-so damn good.

Agree'd, it may have no story, be incredibly repetitive and only have 4/5 different weapons (the first on at least) but it is quite honestly THE zombie game of choice, and a game I'd choose over many others.

And yeah, I want portal 2, but because I'm poor I'm gonna have to wait till it's cheap

Don't get me wrong, it was an awesome game...it just didn't have that Valve...panache. I can't explain or put my finger on it, I just, don't think it's as good.

its never gonna be as good as the classic.- Thats what many fanboys would say. But i really hate fanboys/fangirls of portal (even tho i like the actual game a lot) Thank god i moved to russia where this game isnt sold for some reason or for some reason isnt very popular. Beacuse back in US where i went to school. there were a bunch of these pseudo-geeks, who constantly talked about the cake is a like and referenced other portal joke. it was really annoying. Because i am not a fanboy of portal, i am really looking forward to this game and from what i have seen its proboly better than original.

What i am really waiting for is HALF LIFE EPISODE 3 or just half life3 or whatever the next halflife game is gonna be. i totally frigging love that series. I have a friend who is really lucky to have a girlfriend who is crazy about halflife. So my friend got her a headcrab hat for her birthday and a red crow bar in a glass emergency case. with a label "in case of a headcrab infestation- break glass.

that reminds me, in a completley unrelated event, this friend walked into a hardware store and among all the stuff, he saw a red crowbar, and he was just mesmorised by it, and while he stared at it, a store clerc came up to him and said: " You miss Gordon Freeman doncha?" that store clerk was awesome lol. this gave my friend the idea to get his GF a crowbar for her birthday lol

dont hate people who rip you off, cheat and get away with it, learn from them

I really hate that. "the cake is a lie" was funny for about 3 months after the original game's release. People overused that meme way too much...

Cheap and practical... I like it!

I am preloading Portal 2 right now. I can't wait. My fav part of Portal 1 was the challenges. Most games with puzzle-type areas cannot seem to create a real challenge without going overboard and making it impossible. Portal balanced it very well. I just wish it was longer, or had some really good user created maps.

There are rumors that Portal 2 will actually be released on the 15th, because that was a date found in the ARG. It may or may not be true, but that would be cool...

I don't think it'll be as good. I think it'll be fun, but generally when a company decides to capitalize on a great game as before, they generally spruce it up to meet "modern" standards. This means basically holding the players hand through every step. I could tell by the new sentry designs that it's going to try to step into a more modern approach, meaning higher intelligence enemies, etc.

Of course, Valve hasn't really let me down except for with Team Fortress 2, which I feel I have to dedicate YEARS of my life to playing to enjoy it. Once they added more customization, that was it for me. Speaking of which, I absolutely hate customization and 400 options.

I just now realized I've had a typo in my signature for the past 3 years.

I pre-ordered the PS3 version as a code to unlock the steam version is included with the PS3 copies (here in Australia at least). It's also cheaper than pre-buying on steam.

They announced it during E3, it was a big surprise, but Gabe Newell came out at the PS3 conference and everything.

I like to play it on the xbox. I might eventually get it from steam when they have a cheap enough sale.

It wasn't really a zombie game as a multi-player competition game. It's really about as perfect of a game as can be had.

Can't wait for Portal 2 as well. I'm hoping it's nice and short too. I thought that the first one was the perfect length. You left with a feeling of awe, instead of a feeling of, all that work for this ending?

Had it pre-ordered for ages. Early release tomorrow is looking more likely

Also, for those people who bought on the ps3, aside from the pc/mac version included, did you know that the co-op is crossplatform between ps3/pc/mac ? A nice bit of groundwork from Valve I think, I hope more companies follow suit

Kinda, but not at the same time. TF2 has no real depth, but I love it. Half Life is really deep, and I love that.

It's just that I play it, and it doesn't bring any emotion out. TF2 brings out fun, Half Life brings out win. L4D...nothing.

I found this out yesterday, along with the fact that it uses the cloud save system, so I can play on my PC, continue my game on the PS3 and vice versa.

Although I feel PC players will have the advantage in multiplayer.

Loving the Portal Audiosurf. Just awesome.

I'm also loving the marketing here, I suspect it'll result in lots of $$$ for them.

Yep real excited, Me and my bro have it pre-ordered and cant wait to play it. I think it will be much better than the first one. It was too short and didn't have to much side stuff to do. I beat the story in one sitting of 3 hours. The puzzles were interesting but i never got stuck and wished there been harder ones and more of them. The advanced levels were fun, actually had to sit there and think on them.
Mostly I just hope they make side levels that are separate from the story. But I do love the first one and can't wait to play P2

lol no. But the extra cash there raking in from buying the potato sack thing is very very clever. I have defense grid and on the start page it has potato written in a few places, then in the 'coding' on the right it has different ways to cook them

Valve is always very clever with their marketing, and I think this is the best yet. I don't mind the fact that the potato system isn't really going to change the launch date very much, because the ARG is benefiting some great indie games that otherwise would not have gotten nearly as much publicity.

That's good because the time for each level even on some of the best speed runs is 10 minutes average. Either you used noclip, or you're simply trolling.

Are you kidding me? No way does each level take 10 minutes. The first 10 levels can each be finished in under 2 minutes each.

Portal is not a long game, especially if you know what you're doing.

That is in every way shape or form just absolutely INCORRECT. You can easily find videos of people doing some of the hard levels in even under a minute. 10 minutes is not even fast for a Portal 1 level.

For instance, here is an entire Portal Game speed run in about 10 minutes. (he takes out the elevators though so it would've been another 2 minutes probably) Now, obviously you're average person can't do something like this, but to say a portal level in 10 minutes is fast is just wrong.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cedfdZs128&feature=related

Just by a two minute youtube search I found at least fifteen different videos of portal levels in as short as 3 seconds.

So you obviously haven't any idea what you are talking about. I don't consider myself good at puzzle games by any means but it took me just over 2 hours to beat portal the first time through.

If you look at the link I posted it's 9:25 including time spent in the lifts, though I think he's cut out the loading screens.

I'm personally sick of all these games that you pay €70 for and only last a few hours. I'm hoping Portal 2 is different in this regard. Then again, since most of the game is puzzle-based the completion times will vary greatly from person to person since some people are dumb, while the others are me.

I usually don't get a game until several months after it is released, but I might make an exception for Portal 2.
