Nope! but you nead the security number on the back of the card to use it on the web
And you nead the magnetic stripe on the card or the chip on it to use it in stores.
My own card also have the verified by visa security for usage on the web.
Can only be used on sites that is verified by visa where you nead the code on the back of the card also.

Its not like the old days anymore!

But who knows my account could be empty tomorrow

I simply say ! Dont worry be happy

PlayStation Network Security Update

On Tuesday, April 26 we shared that some information that was compromised in connection with an illegal and unauthorized intrusion into our network. Once again, we’d like to apologize to the many users who were inconvenienced and worried about this situation.

We want to state this again given the increase in speculation about credit card information being used fraudulently. One report indicated that a group tried to sell millions of credit card numbers back to Sony. To my knowledge there is no truth to this report of a list, or that Sony was offered an opportunity to purchase the list.

One other point to clarify is from this weekend’s press conference. While the passwords that were stored were not “encrypted,” they were transformed using a cryptographic hash function. There is a difference between these two types of security measures which is why we said the passwords had not been encrypted. But I want to be very clear that the passwords were not stored in our database in cleartext form. For a description of the difference between encryption and hashing, follow this link.

To reiterate a few other security measures for your information: Sony will not contact you in any way, including by email, asking for your credit card number, social security number or other personally identifiable information. If you are asked for this information, you can be confident Sony is not the entity asking. When the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services are fully restored, we strongly recommend that you log on and change your password. Additionally, if you use your PlayStation Network or Qriocity user name or password for other unrelated services or accounts, we strongly recommend that you change them, as well. To protect against possible identity theft or other financial loss, we encourage you to remain vigilant, to review your account statements and to monitor your credit reports.

We continue to work with law enforcement and forensic experts to identify the criminals behind the attack. Once again, we apologize for causing users concern over this matter.

Our objective is to increase security so our customers can safely and confidently play games and use our network and media services. We will continue to provide updates as we have them."

In my experience, open hardware mostly means endless emulators, people who think usability is a filthy word, and pirated software.
Homebrew isn't as sexy as I used to think.

Enough. You've had 4 years to complain about what I said. What you're doing is harassing, and is not moderator material. You've had 4 years to smear my name and try to make me look bad. We get it, you don't like me, let it go. What happened and was exchanged between emails is nobodies business but our own. You were in the wrong for publishing the emails to the moderator board to begin with. And I'm going to be honest, I don't like you either, so the feeling is mutual. But I am not going to make sarcastic and generally rude remarks about you, or anyone else. If you want to rage, rage to my email or MSN. Or rage to yourself. Don't bring it into the forum. Going on and on about it is annoying, not to mention only makes you look bad. Enough already. What is you making side comments REALLY achieving?

I just now realized I've had a typo in my signature for the past 3 years.

No he wasn't. Its common practice and its useful to keep things like that on record.
Everyone who sends us abusive emails has them put up on the board. If you are going to abuse our emails which you have taken from the TGC site, then we have the right to publish those emails to the moderators board for review.

If a moderator sends you an unprovoked abusive email, you are welcome to send it to TGC or another moderator. The emails will be posted in the same way to the moderator board.

The emails were sent before he was made moderator. They were sent in August of 2007. He was made moderator in August of 2008, a one year time lapse. Had I sent him them when he was a moderator then I could see holding a grudge because it would seemingly be as if I was attacking him over being a moderator. That wasn't the case. The emails were in the past, before he became a moderator. He had no right to post them, and that's not even what I have a massive problem with. I have a problem with someone trying to publicly attack me over what happened 4 years ago. I've tried multiple times to apologize, I've contacted him 3 times by email attempting to apologize, I can't do anything else. It's on the point now of harassment, and there is no other way to put it. I put it behind me, and you bringing it up is a really low thing to do.

I just now realized I've had a typo in my signature for the past 3 years.

[EDIT2]: Actually looking at the thread again, it was you who sent some of the emails to the rest of the mods (The email I replied to ages ago).

Crispex - Do I have to quote my post again? Did you not read it at all, or can you truly not comprehend ANYTHING as badly as I already think you do?

Like I said before, his strong dislike of you started four years ago... It continues today because of stupid and ignorant things you say... today! GET IT YET? You have grown on my nerves now to the point where any time I see you post, I truly get mad. Why I keep reading your stupid posts is beyond me.

Thraxas would have put it behind him by now if it wasn't for your absolutely ridiculous attitude you have here.

Sony are really getting their ass handed to them! There are script kiddies and then there are real hackers! I'm just glad they don't have my credit card details and I don't really use PSN. I'm not fussed if they haven't 'officially' got any banking details. I'm just happier knowing it's impossible for them to have got mine.

Why does everyone hate Sony so much btw?

I think it's because they don't have a face... Well when you see things like E3 videos, MS and Nintendo both have quite recognisable and destinguished people - yet I wouldn't know what anyone at Sony looks like. It's the typical faceless corporation, and they don't help matters when things like this happen and theres no face telling us it'll be OK. If anyone has a video of anyone at Sony getting excited about anything, I'd like to see it!

There seams to be only some banking details that where retrived?
Sony wrote that they will email these people and notify them?
The more i read about this make me think it whas an failed hack?
With junk trojans left that the hackers couldt use!
And sony overreacted?

Quote: "Why does everyone hate Sony so much btw?"

Well, it's not hate from my point of view - just lack of trust.

Remember the CD spyware they implemented?

Then the removal of OtherOS from the PS3 (when people bought the systems specifically for that purpose) - currently they are being sued for that at various places around the world.

The latest was the legal attack on Geohot when he reinstated the OtherOS on his PS3 and released his jailbreak code to the public - they then went on to grab all of the details of everyone who had ever gone to his website, who had ever paid into his paypal account, whoever he had paid from his paypal account, anyone who had ever viewed the video of his PS3 jailbreak on youtube etc, sued him at the other end of the country simply to make fighting them more expensive to him, trashed him in the media etc.

Basically, they acted like a bunch of douches.

Personally, I don't need to give any of my cash to people like that.

Oh, and when Valve were working on improving Source Engine compatibility with the PS3, they ran into trouble and asked Sony for a little technical info and help.

They replied, "Look up a tutorial." Hence Valves have only just readded the PS3 with Portal 2's release to Source, and missed Left4Dead 2. Essentially they are that "faceless, voiceless, nameless corporation." I mean, Apple has Steve Jobs, Microsoft had Bill Gates, they both had someone who, even if you hated them, you could direct emotion towards.

Sony has a webpage and a call centre full of less than enthusiastic employees.

Quote: "Sony Offering Free ‘AllClear ID Plus’ Identity Theft Protection in the United States through Debix, Inc.
+ Posted by Patrick Seybold // Sr. Director, Corporate Communications & Social Media

Last weekend, Sony Computer Entertainment announced that we will provide complimentary enrollment in an identity theft protection program. Here are the details of this program for PlayStation Network and Qriocity account holders in the United States only. We are working to make similar programs available in other countries/territories where applicable. Information will be posted on local websites/blogs when available.

Sony Computer Entertainment and Sony Network Entertainment International have made arrangements with Debix, Inc., one of the industry’s most reputable identity protection firms, to offer AllClear ID Plus at no cost to PlayStation Network and Qriocity account holders for 12 months from the time an account holder registers for the program.

Please note that we will start sending out activation emails for this program over the next few days, and you will have until June 18th to sign-up and redeem your code. You will need to sign up directly through AllClearID, not on Sony’s websites, and details, including step-by-step instructions for the program, will be emailed to United States PSN and Qriocity Account holders soon.

The details of the program include, but are not limited to:
•Cyber monitoring and surveillance of the Internet to detect exposure of an AllClear ID Plus customer’s personal information, including monitoring of criminal web sites and data recovered by law enforcement. If his/her personal information is found, the customer will be alerted by phone and/or email and will be provided advice and support regarding protective steps to take. The customer will also receive monthly identity status reports. Debix works with an alliance of cyber-crime experts from the government, academia and industry to provide these services.
•Priority access to licensed private investigators and identity restoration specialists. If an AllClear ID Plus customer receives an alert, or otherwise suspects that he/she may be the victim of identity theft, the customer can speak directly, on a priority basis, with an on-staff licensed private investigator, who will conduct a comprehensive inquiry. In the case of an identity theft, the customer can work with an identity restoration specialist to contact creditors and others, and take necessary steps to restore the customer’s identity.
•A $1 million identity theft insurance policy per user to provide additional protection in the event that an AllClear ID Plus customer becomes a victim of identity theft. This insurance would provide financial relief of up to $1 million for covered identity restoration costs, legal defense expenses, and lost wages that occur within 12 months after the stolen identity event.

More information will be available on the enrollment page, a link which will be included in the email you will receive.

We continue to work around the clock to have some PlayStation Network services and Qriocity services restored, and will be providing you specific details shortly.

Thank you."

Quote: "Service Restoration Update

+ Posted by Patrick Seybold // Sr. Director, Corporate Communications & Social Media

As you may know, we’ve begun the process of restoring the service through internal testing of the new system. We’re still working to confirm the security of the network infrastructure, as well as working with a variety of outside entities to confirm with them of the security of the system. Verifying the system security is vital for the process of restoration. Additional comprehensive system checks and testing are still required, and we must complete that process before bringing the systems online.

As you’ve heard us say, our utmost priorities are the security of the network and ensuring your data is safe. We won’t restore the services until we can test the system’s strength in these respects.

When we held the press conference in Japan last week, based on what we knew, we expected to have the services online within a week. We were unaware of the extent of the attack on Sony Online Entertainment servers, and we are taking this opportunity to conduct further testing of the incredibly complex system. We know many of you are wanting to play games online, chat with your friends and enjoy all of the services PlayStation Network and Qriocity services have to offer, and trust me when I say we’re doing everything we can to make it happen. We will update you with more information as soon as we have it. We apologize for the delay and inconvenience of this network outage.

PSN is like the Free PS3 equivalent of Xbox Live, only right now, it's down and won't be coming back up for awhile, you need a PS3 or PSP first before you can get a PSN account.

Sony has stated May 31st as the new deadline. I'd trust that one as much as I trusted the last 2 "deadlines".

I fail to see how it's the fault of XBox if you're bored with a game. Borderlands is on Playstation too.

It was supposed to be a monkey / kangaroo fire-breathing hybrid. And it would be 70 km tall, and keep a giant laser in it's pouch.

No
They stated that was the deadline for all the services.
For it to come back online, as in multiplayer (first service to come back), they havnt announced but it will be earlier.

I think PSN went down because it is free, so they put no money into protecting their servers. XBOX LIVE GOLD is not free, but the servers are fast and they never been shut down or hacked, so you pay for speed and security with XBOX LIVE.

Honestly, (not trying to be a troll), I don't see why we deserve anything. As I said before, they're not legally obligated to service us anything, as in the agreement (or at least it used to) it even says they have the right ot cut off services at any time with or without reason.

People should be grateful for getting free games. Nobody has reported any financial inconsistency, etc.

Yes, they were hacked, it happens. PayPal was hacked quite a few times, and had access to even MORE financial info, etc.

I had friends who NEVER play on PSN complaining to me about it. People are always looking for something to attack and complain about.

I just now realized I've had a typo in my signature for the past 3 years.

Again; it's a matter of trust and Sony wanting people to trust them (and purchase from them). They had numerous people's info compromised from this, and their lack of security. Just because you haven't heard anyone reporting anything, doesn't mean it hasn't happened....yet. Obviously Sony has a better grasp on this whole thing than you do, as they are taking these steps.
