And why is that? Because it takes no skill to make something with FPSC? Because I disagree!

Would it be possible to get to take a look at this demo? It might be better to judge in order to answer your question better. Generally I'd probably say release a game for a price where the gamer is willing to take a punt if they're unsure it's going to be worth the money. I buy some indie games just because they're cheap, so the small price is worth the trying them out.

You can't judge how enjoyable a game is based purely on the screen shots, a proper video or demo would be better. Although I must say that crosshair looks terrible.

if you plan on selling it, then take the time to make a proper demo, cut it down to the first, maybe second level or something

edit: with that i mean: have it being the full game, but restricted to the first levels, dont cut down on features on a demo as that will most likely not help the consumers buy the game

argh... hate this editor...

Urm I wrote such a huge post... and now going to just make it simple and try to remember everything...

1 -
it should be fine with $10 but if you got a good story... make it $12... especially if you plan on releasing updates or patches or even addond or something...

2 -
the demo thing... option A is as mentioned above... limit the levels...
or
option B is to use Smart Packer Pro which has a disk write prevention thing which in essense does not allow saving so when a player dies... they are returned to the beginning over and over...

3 -
Hi Nice to meet you btw

and keep up the good work... hope I can try out your demo and give feedback.

Regards

MrValentine

Of course it's possible, you could probably do it in Visual Basic quite easily, but you'd have to learn how obviously.

SPP has an auto update function however you will need your files uploaded to an ftp server somewhere to allow http access to it... but I have one gripe about SPP's update system in that it does not say or show anything while downloading the files... a little concerning for clients... but I think you could just perform a check for updates in the start of your application... like create a dbpro exe which launches first to perform the check... and if there is one... you simply download the whole new package... if you need me to explain in more detail just ask haha...

oh the dbpro exe will execute the exe if there is no update...

I am yet to test this functionality out... I might as well test it with FPSC to confirm it works both for myself and others on here but it might be a while before I get round to it.

Can I just ask - what's going on in that second screenshot? Is he looking up or down? Is that a hole in the floor or the roof, and are those things falling, or are they flying, or are they just stuck there?

Personally, I wouldn't pay more than 1 cent for any game made with FPSC. In fact, I would legitimately have to be paid to play any FPSC game.

I agree for the most part, can't say I would have to be paid to play though My reasoning is because of the media. Sure, if you create a FPSC game with 100% unique media so it doesn't look like every other FPSC game then I would play. However, most games (including this one) look the same because they all use the same models, textures, etc. They also usually play the same and aside from the story and object placement there is very little difference. FPSC to me is like map packs to multiplayer games, just new environments and not much else. However, I think someone outside of the FPSC world might play it because they aren't familiar with the media.

Sorry if I offended any FPSC users.

I think that is just being narrow-minded, have you seen any of the "good games" made in FPSC? I'll think you will be surprised.

And just for the occasion.

You don't charge people based on how much work you put into it. You charge based on what it's worth to people.

It's a hard number to figure out. One method to figuring it out is you start high and go lower until you hit the right spot.

I think you should give the full game to people who are not biased. Then gather opinions, then price it that way.

Yeah, you have to add that your friends might just want to be nice to you or do not know that you made it with fpsc. (No offence, but you have to take that into account) You, yourself are the worst judge of your own work.

Just go to a videogame store and compare it to boxed games they charge 10 Usd for. Now add the fact that you will have to provide techsupport in case people have trouble with the game (its made with fpsc, I still have an entire E-Mail account full of people complaining about the euthanasia game, just so you can grasp the concept) From what I gathered from your posts, your a really nice lad but you dont really know much about the code behind fpsc, how it works and why, so how do you plan on providing that support?

How do you want to distribute the game?

Look, I sell my games for 3 Dollars because I think its the highest price they are worth.

Don't want to trash you or something, just want to provide an honest opinion. Your game looks rather okay, but doesnt seem much different from your average fpsc game. (also make sure you have the license for every sound, item, texture, image you use)

Dude... My friends think its very hard to make something simple... I made money off of selling CD versions of my demo to them... And I can handle tech support... If people post the same question alot then it will be put in the FAQ answered!

I sold the demo for 2USD each soooo yeah...

I do have a license for alot of the stuff because its either from the community or the TGC model pack thingy... So yeah... I'm good...

I looked on freesound for sounds that I could use commercially and I found alot so i'm good

You still should release the full game to experienced gamers. Not just a few. At least 10, so they can test for bugs and be a good judge. Wolf brought up a very valid point that they very well may hate the thing, but don't want to offend you.
