One thing you might want to try is the pay what you want method. You can do it 2 ways:

1. Simply have the buyer pay what they think it's worth.
2. Have 2 versions: A Paid for version and a free version. The free version is the full game, but the paid for version has something extra and you do the "pay what you want" for the extra stuff.

Just a thought

No offense mate, but if you're getting others to write scripts for you, that tells me all I need to know about how in-depth your role in making this game is going to be.

Also the level design options in those screenshots makes very little sense. E.g., a spiked, wooden walkway between two walls with no easy, visible means to access it.

Honestly, you have to consider, first and foremost, whether people will go to the effort to even spend an hour or two downloading it for free.

Ultimately, you need yourself a Unique Selling Point. What does your game do that others do not, and why should the end user care enough to pay for it?

Sorry if that comes off as harsh, but hey, welcome to the world of business. People want the world for a penny out here.

Quantity is often directly opposed to quality.

Your game will be several gigabytees in size, taking me a good few hours to acquire, minus the monetary charge. Tell me, why would I, the end user, want to buy your game? You need some salesmanship in here.

most likely arround 3 gb, how are you calculating it ? you thinking like, oh a level has 500 mb so 23 levels will have about 11 gb, if you are, it's not like that man, you count the game's size by it's media content, all of the levels use the same files core, and as we can see there's no enough media to fill "several gb" as i think you mean.

well them this game will have to be pretty damm god, coz it's going to be huge.

but you can also organize the game in episodes, and give separate links and names to each, in this way, the customer can watch the game's videos in the youtube and decide with episode he want's to download first after buying the game, and as he plays the episode, the customer dowload another, the game would still be big but the customer won't be bored for hours, he would already be playng the game instead.

Guys lay off... its not like its the first time someone has tried to make a commercial game in fpsc...

Eitherway Hi CG hows you doing...

Regarding the file size... fpsc files are highly compressable... during my test earlier I compressed using low compression the test map from just under 100mb to just under 50mb... so if he uses SPP FPSC edition he can reduce the file size significantly... but he has to bare in mind launching the game will be slightly delayed... there is always a tradeoff between speed and efficiency... or size in this case.

man, it's not how many levels you got, is the total media that all of the levels got, it will difyficultly go beyond 3 or 4 gb, NO MATTER HOW MANY LEVELS YOU GOT, if your fpsc folder have 5 gb, your game wont be able to go beyond it, no matter how big the first level is, or how many levels you got, understood ?

It shouldn't transfer all of that.

I don't even know of a game other than World of Warcraft that is that big. Seriously, how are you going to even distribute it in the first place?

You can't mount it onto 4 DVDs and sell those, and getting the server space for a download that size won't be cost effective. :S

if the final build is that big, then i doubt its worth anywhere near 10USD: Crysis had 10-15GB, and your game 20? i dont pay for space wasters

The download to the largest game I ever released (8Levels) is 572.4 MB...so all these filesize arguments are invalid. Gendestroier is right about the core files

A 23 Level game will most likely overload your system though: try releasing chapters.

yes but then it won't have anything to do with space, you would be inproving the game's performance if you do that.

so much space does your game take? btw have you thought about putting more shaders in like anti-aliasing,bloom shaders, and bump mapping in the future? i still like your game but i just wanted to point it out. so when can we see a video or how to even purchase it.

edit: just read your other thread. i think i would rather try out the demo first or still waiting for that video.

I think if u just use standard FPSC stuff yes 1 to 4 bucks. However, FPSC games can be pretty amazing if you iron out bugs and introduce something new. I mean Minecraft looks like crap but omg game play is amazing and that is what makes minecraft worth 15 bucks or however much its selling for now.

On the flip side, the best games you make are the ones you code from scratch your self. Rather you use DB or a industry standard language, its allways best i think to code from scratch. You also learn a lot more coding from scratch.
