Quote: "Playing with the worst possible equipment requires the most skill. I also do not want people having to backtrack too far to get rank s. You can't play through all levels with the basic equipment. Figuring out the equipment to use is another puzzle to get those s-ranks."

Makes sense to me. I never questioned it, I just didn't understand how it worked originally

Well hopefully some of my comments will be of use! I hope I haven't been wasting your time here.

Quote: "The game is not entirely about speed though. I don't want you to run every time you can without thinking. Dashing is part of the puzzle that makes up a level and keeps the gameplay varied. It should only be used when appropriate."

Certainly

Never thought you did. Just wanted to explain how it works and why

No, it's always fun to get comments on the game

Hm. I was going to stop commenting here, but the PC version crashed just now. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see the error report because I was pressing escape as it happened (to quickly restart the level) there was very little text in the error and it occurred as I took projectile damage and fell into water. I don't really know anything else.

Hmm, falling into water after taking projectile damage. That's something that could be tested. Did you die in the water or were you about to respawn? And were you in air or on ground when hit?

I'm pretty sure I was on the ground when hit. I was also respawning

I wanted to say what a great job you did on the game. I downloaded it for the Android and the PC.

I liked it better on the PC though. I never did like the button controls on the phones.

Anyway, like the post above, it does feel like the same kind of quality as the Big Boys puts out. Triple A quality if you ask me. Really, Really Good Job.

I can't wait for more content. It was too short.

One question though; Will there be a way to get more health on certain levels?
Now, I do notice that the levels are short enough that you can make it through with the default health meter. Just thought I would ask.

Yeah, you will be able to pick up hearts on the levels. I am working on that right now

I didn't realize this was on google play! I thought you just released to Ouya. I really enjoyed the early versions, so hoping for a good classic time.

Downloaded this from Google Play the other day, very surprised that it was free.

It plays incredibly well, really cool, not come across any technical issues yet. Really like what you've done with the art, especially the background to the platforming levels.

I've not come across any technical issue but then I've just realised that I've been playing it with the sound off (I generally play all tablet games with the sound off so no offence intended) so I can't comment about that.

Anyway, keep up the good work.

Free for now since it's still only alpha. I am releasing it to get people to notice the game.

Looks like not all of the votes came from TGC users, so it was a justified victory

I got my first written article on the alpha!

News article by Super Game Droid
"This addicting action RPG employs absolutely perfect side-scrolling gameplay reminiscent of Zelda II: The Adventure Of Link
that when mixed with its Dark Souls style combat system, makes for a sublime gaming experience."

I decided to try my wireless keyboard and mouse that I use on my tablet in RTA but I guess the mobile RTA version doesn't accept keyboard input.

Yes, it should. There's nothing in the code that prevents this. Have you tried the keyboard with anything else made in AppGameKit?

I've tried a different keyboard on android with AppGameKit but not this specific one. I'll have to check later. Unfortunately, I also seem to be getting occasional crashes when using a controller. Twice while playing the level that is directly above where the game starts on the map (it's the only level there) and twice on the top left section of the map (while walking around the world/level select). Seems like these may just be AGK's fault though perhaps v2 will able to fix these problems before an official release

I have a controller for my phone, but I haven't used it in ages.

No crashes reported on Ouya. Except one, but I think I caused that by accident while testing a sideloaded APK.

I tried it and it did work very strange. The first time I tried none of the keys responded. The esc button doesn't work though (which seems to be true for a few other applications).

AGK detects the Android back button as the same keycode as Esc. Maybe that got something to do with it?

Yep I was fairly sure that must be why. Some other non-AGK apps seem to be confused by the esc key (although not all of them) so perhaps it 's a deeper property of android. Hopefully not. I guess there can't really be 2 keys with the same keycode, but it would be nice to have access to that esc key Maybe we should suggest a "raw" command for the esc key in the AppGameKit v2 thread.

Finally back to some real coding. Yesterday I made some minor fixes. Due to having problems with AppGameKit 2 alpha 4 and having to go back to alpha 3 and restore a backup of AppGameKit, that was all I had time for. Today on the other hand I have added powerups. I can now place these within the editor and they already work properly ingame.

You can pick up stars and hearts to replenish your energy and health. There are also 3 runes/gems/whatever that grants you a temporary boost to your attack, speed/recovery and protection. Complete with my own home made particles.

I have decided to release a 2nd alpha. There's a bunch of things I want to code that has nothing to do with content so I want to get them done first before shifting my focus.

Super Game Droid is doing another roundup. This time they are doing their first Ouya roundup. In the Android roundup, Rush to Adventure managed 54% of the votes. Going up against other Ouya games will probably be harder. First prize is a video review and I would love one of those. The voting is at the bottom of the page. You do not need to sign up to vote, you can vote anonymously. Please show your support and vote for AppGameKit made Rush to Adventure.

We lost the poll. Congrats to Super Renegade Response. I think this has been a good way to raise awareness of Rush to Adventure. A big thanks to all who have voted and shared! Now I look forward to having my game showcased at the Ouya booth at PAX next week

The PAX version has been published on Ouya now. Really excited about PAX this weekend. I am hoping for some good reactions. I am really tired and I have so much to do this weekend, we'll see if I have time to code.

Thanks

Just wish I knew how they are showcasing the game. Haven't heard anything about their plans. Their Twitch channel says "preparing for PAX stream". I fear that due to the 9 hours of time difference I am going to miss quite a bit of it.

By googling I found the Brazilian review with plenty of downloads. Seems they only found 7 levels. Here's a link through Google Translate.

If you like let's players.

Here's a guy playing through the alpha on Ouya. Sadly the text on the 2nd sign talks about using the mouse. Another thing added to my todo list.

And if you want to take a look at what the game looked like in the pre-alpha. It's almost horrible to watch as the alpha looks a lot better. Warning, this got bad language.

My googling skills have now leveled up. Or rather I start to remember my old search engine knowledge

Article translated from Vietnamese

And a Brazilian article on the pre-alpha.

BTW, the Game Cola site is back up.

Really cool news, DA. Shame you couldn't have gone to PAX in person I have some major projects I'm still trying to finish and have to go to IDF in a week but once I'm done with all that I really look forward to playing through this on my Ouya.

I should have done this like a week ago. I need feedback on the powerups. So, here's the version I uploaded to Ouya for PAX but the PC version. It got some minor updates as well as the powerups.

Red sword boosts attack.
Yellow bolt boosts speed.
Grey shield gives protection.

I don't know if I want them in or not. Or maybe just fewer of them? If you have the save files from the alpha then this version will use them.
