HOLY CRAP, THERE ACTUALLY IS A MODERATOR BOARD

LINK: http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_read&i=17

You can't access it normally though :3

How I found it: I made a list of forum code ID numbers, and tried all forum codes that were missing from the default list of forums

I also found some other hidden forums:

Mods Lounge

Team Requests

Teachers Forum

Synergy IDE

I didn't know it was a secret. It's often talked about here. Yes we use it to discuss bans/noob slaps etc. Although it's been pretty quiet of late as the majority of users here now are all awesome and don't cause too much trouble.

Quote: "Ooh, there's a "notes" box, is that ever used? Also, can a mod see their own notes?"

The notes box is used. It makes moderating so much easier. If I ban or noob slap someone I leave a little note in the box explaining when and why. The other moderators do that also. If I am about to noob slap/ban someone for something if I see from their notes that it is a repeated offence then the slap/ban will be longer to reflect that.

If I click on another mods profile button I just see what everyone sees if they click on a profile button: email address, website, location, join date, thread search and private messaging button. There's no notes box or moderator controls. You can't edit another mods posts either.

What a horrible feature they treat you guys to...

What do my notes say? I know I have that slap and that warning for post stretching...

Is the mod board used for every single slap/ban case or just ones that need further discussion? Did my slap get any attention on the board? I love learning this mod stuff.

I used to make a thread for every one. But now just the ones I think will cause problems. Or to check I haven't gone MAD with power. Or if I have been involved in a discussion and feel that I may not be the best judge for that particular situation. For example: Crispex and I had a very public dislike for each other. It started before I became a moderator but continued long after I became a moderator. As I felt I was never the best judge of character to deal with Crispex due to our history I never moderated him. I often felt like it but I left it for the other moderators to deal with. That way none of his moderation could ever be because of my personal feelings. The last I heard he left the community because *I* kept moderating him, which is funny because it wasn't me.

Since I became a Mod between Bigadd and Josh I feel so forgotten

LoL J/k

I became a mod some time in 2008. I did some work for TGC on their 'Social Arcade' and made a joke about part of my payment be making me a Mod.. LoL They got a good laugh by ninja'ing me into Mod status.

But I think all the stuff I posted for the community in the years before, ie: 2D artwork, 3d Models etc. might have also had a bit of influence.

Although I consider myself more of an 'Honorary Mod' since I don't flex much of any Mod powers, I mainly take care of the 3D Compo's that roll out every Month. This Used to be BiggAdds job, I hope I didn't step on his toes, but I guess my taking over the 3D Compos helped him have more time for actual 'Modding'.

And that is my Story and I'm sticking to it

Cheers!

EDIT: I flexed my mod powers somewhere in this thread, who will be the first one to catch it? hmmm? Muahahahaha

Mods have stepped down, like Happy Dude (when he switched to Mac development). I don't know what exactly happened with Indi - I can't remember if he stepped down or had his mod status removed. He pretty much left the forums with a big argument. This was a while ago, so I didn't fully understand the situation.

I suspect TGC staff are the ones who are capable of promoting people to mods. Richard Davey is the forum's main admin, but he's moved on to greater things (like Aardman and doing his own indi game dev). Occassionally you see him post here, but it's very rare.

You know what would be cool, is if they had the safety flip-up covers on the mod buttons, like that ban button, and esp the nuke button - so you have to flip them up before your can use them... like a 90's fighter pilot .

The moderator lounge is pretty quiet, mostly used for competition prep and stuff like that. We can probably do with another annoying infidel on the forums, someone for us to focus our mod-rage on.

Also couple of keys that need to be inserted and turned at the same time. That would be cool.

Not at all! You do a far far better job than I ever did. After you took over the competitions, they took on a new life. I think I was slowly killing the compo with my rubbish ideas!

Jimmy was awesome! He wasn't a problem at all. He was the only user here to make me laugh out loud! Then he went silent and posts like once a month.

----

I've been reading about the other mods, and I've noticed that I didn't really do anything here to deserve mod status I was just nominated and had spoken a few times with Richard Davey on IM beforehand, so he knew that I wasn't a blithering idiot The only requirements Richard gave for the new mods at that time was that they were a user for over a year and they'd never been disciplined; i.e. are they cool and can we trust them?

Perhaps I was nominated because I was in the game industry at that time, toiling away at EA, and I completed a few DBP games. Oh, and I make the best coffee for the mod lounge!

After about five years on the forum though, I've finally learned how to spell his name properly.

Challenge Accepted...

"I know everything! I'm the greatest game designer ever! I know more than anyone. I'm always right. There's my opinion and..well..my opinion. So who wants to join my awesome company? I'm making a team for this epic rpg, I've already got this sort-of idea on paper. I haven't figured out the plot or the gameplay or the graphics style and I haven't written any code yet but that's why I need a team. I need an artist, coder, scriptwriter, musician and soundfx guy. So who wants to be part of my awesome epic project? Am willing to pay you if it sells. Btw, am I annoying? I get the feeling everyone is getting annoyed with me. I got banned for posting my first team request and it's not my fault because nobody told me I had to read the AUP. That mod was rude too. He never replied to any of my emails and I know he must have received at least because I sent him about twenty about my ban."

Sorry nonZero, not good enough. For a start, your assuming that everyone here can read, you haven't mentioned a fake girlfriend once, and I only counted 2 exclamation marks in that whole post and not a single smilie face anywhere.

Sorry but we expect more from our trolls here. I suggest reading 'Billy Goats Gruff' and consider practising on a smaller forum, with less goats .

Yep. About a decade ago. Possibly a minimum of 8 years ago. Basically 99% of the time he would jump onto a thread and say something completely random. Most of the time it was annoying and people ignored him, but now and again was outright funny. He was basically like a troll with no nasty aims.

Quote: "We can probably do with another annoying infidel on the forums"
Years ago I used to call them "The One" because we used to get roughly one a month or so. As soon as a newbie stopped talking nicely and suddenly started exploding about how they were going to write the next big thing (after finishing the pong tutorial of course) with their "company" and getting all arsy and stuff then they were "The One" and would just absolutely light up the boards for a while before putting a big thread of "I AM MOVING ON AND NEVER COMING BACK". Most people had never heard of them and their 5 minutes on the forums, but they nearly always came back to comment on their thread even though no-one really cared and they had said "I WILL NEVER COMMENT ON THIS THREAD EVER AGAIN". Obviously followed by either a new account name or a few months later with a "I AM BACK!!!!!" thread. Sigh.
