Uh-oh. Guess I should've saved those till the last minute then..
I'll prolly upload a couple more entries but that's it from me. I don't really have any 3d proggy where I could create proper abstract forms... so I'll leave that to someone else.

Van-B, yeh... the height is the tricky part... but perhaps the point is to make use of "imaginary space". Hard to explain, but if you look at the current header image, the text isn't fully inside the image - but it still works.

Your forum text is throbbing!

I hope it's still <10k - my pic saved out as a 256 colour gif was 18k, damn sure I ain't going below 256 colours!, it's not normal!.

tsk tsk guys... check the filesizes. that's half the challenge here.
and for Van-B, I couldn't get any of my stuff look better as gif's or take smaller space. It's all about what the image looks like. and on this kind of black backdrop, jpg compression is usually better. Oh and for the record, none of my entries would have been under 10k with 256 color gif. 33-128 would have been possible...varying from image to image. But they looked so horrible.
tool that can tell you the exact filesize BEFORE saving is very helpful here. You can tweak to the max!

1024x10 = 10240 bytes. That's it. (check the image properties)

final one of those I did at work:

The program I'm using lets you export to extremly small sizes with good quality. I just made in 9 kb to be on the safe side.

BTW, mm0zct, can you upload one more banner for me please?

Indi,
What controls do you have over standard Gif? - I mean you get a lot more options when using something like Animation Shop, but when simply saving a gif in PSP - I assumed you could only really stipulate the colour depth to affect the file size.

Like hypothetically, I have an 18k gif that I want to be 15k, and I don't want to go less than 256 colours - what would you do?

Well it looks like there's too many entries to keep scrolling and going between pages to compare them all, so I expanded my script so you can add them and they will all display on the one page.

Short URL: http://www.TGCApollo.tk
No Banner URL: http://ep.designex.net/Misc/Apollo/

The script has undergone intense bug testing (Both myself and Mussi posted a couple banners ) and it looks like it all works fine and dandy. So everyone feel free to add their own banners to the list, I might remind you that you don't have to, it would just be easier to see them all if they were on the one page and without all the messages inbetween.

Thanks,
Exeat

@van b in psp7 you get control over the compression factor, there is also an optio called optimizer when you save it which opens a window containing preview of before and after, alterable compresion factor and before and after filsize

@exeat you can get rid of the banner in you .tk domain settings, also sorry i accidentally pasted the wrong url into your site, can you please delete the bad ones

i'm really sorry

We're getting a fairly nice list there, aren't we? lol, I hope no one's got lost when I edited out bad URL entries or duplicates. There is a chance that someone submitted while I was editing the file and in that case their's might not have gotten added, so just add it again if that happened to you (I know quite a few people were adding banners while I was editing so my apologies if that happened).

Anyway, that kept me up longer then I hoped, no one break the script while I'm sleeping! G'night.

Ladies & gentlemen I believe we have a winner on our hands. Ravey and myself have spent some considerable time designing a banner to submit to this competition and here it is for you all to see.

We have decided to go for the simple look and managed to come in way under target on the file size and still able to retain the black colour required on the left.

I hope that nobody is going to try and copy our design so they can win the competition as a lot of time and effort has gone into creating this stunning design.

looks nice megaton and lassix' banners are beautiful too. but the creativity behind Mikes and raveys banner is purely stunning. the wide black area contrast to the pure white text is webdesign at its best.

Yeah, Horses - Everyone hates horses right?

Nah, we have 2 muppets in human resources who go horseriding, and they love nothing more than sitting talking rubbish and browsing the internet for horsey stuff. So we block horses to piss them off. Wish I had'nt now though - one of them just got implants! .
