@H4ck1d- not to detract from treborguy's work (it's a very nice gun ) but his is a concept, and yours is a real, 3D, textured gun.

here is about an hour or so's work in milkshape with a ref image of my favourite nerf gun, the MAVERICK!

i jsut used an image off the net of some modded one. with the texture i might take out the nerf logo. but anyway its a rush as you can see by the many polys, i think it ended up with 544 something triangles. I will animate it later when i get a set of hands to use, but i have rigged and tested it so teh barrel will pop out and spin just like the real maverick when you modify it to flip all teh way out. also will figure out the bone structure for the trigger and the pump when i get the hands. we need a set of hands for each player model, ie a human set, a monkey set etc depending on teh character, i will make some monkey sets and see what you guys think, but not till next week as i have a big expo to prepare a stall for!

Some really great weapons showing up. Feel free to think outside the box:

Cattle prods
Net launchers
Shurikins (sp?)
Chairs
Chain saws
Grenades
Freeze Guns
Flame Throwers
Exploding Toy Robots
Sonic Weapons
Flash blinding weapons (to be used with goggles)
Decoys
Sensor/Scanner devices
Medical kits/devices
Blow-dart tubes (high-powered, of course)
Tactor beams (for grabbing weapons from an opponent maybe?)
Grappling teathers (for grabbing enemies and keep them from running to get help)

And there is so much more.

Nice work Wig! What program did you use? Is the rest of the texture a picture of the gun or did you make it yourself?

Hey any more news on the website and forum?

I've got 2 new gun models, I'll post them here as soon as I finish the textures (they're mostly done...)

Keep it up guys!

Still trying to get word on those. I will see what the status is tomorrow morning.

@Dared1111. The gun grabbing animation sounds great - I say go for it. Coding should probably not start until we have the site and the svn up and running, as well as the old code.

what i meant is letting the players grab onto ledges and climb up, yank weapons away from enemies and i would also like to know if this is denied if i could if there's enough time make a single player mode...

The SVN is up, but there is nothing it yet. Here are the addresses.

TortoiseSVN file address
https://wush.net/svn/openfps/

Webaddress
https://wush.net/websvn/openfps/

For intructions on installing and connecting to the TortoiseSVN, follow these instructions for the OMMORPG project (just change the project's svn address, of course).

Allright, cool

I've got one gun mostly finished, 'the Falke'

It's intended to be held by putting your arm through the cuff in the back and then gripping the handle at the front, so that the gun is suspended below the arm. Hope you like it!

Sorry I haven't posted for a while, we're at the end of the trimester here at school, so my schedule is getting a bit crowded...

I'll try to have 2 more models done by next week if I'm lucky.

I haven't checked out the svn yet, not enough time, but I'll do that pretty soon here. Are the forum or website up yet, or are we still waiting for those? Thanks guys!

Still waiting on the website. Should have it by this coming weekend. The SVN doesn't have anything in it yet except a folder. We need to get the old files, if possible.

Hey Riidii. Nice to finally see this project finally picking up again. I was one of the original graphic artist. I made a whole bunch of models but im no good at texturing (Hey, anyone know of some good tutorials for texturing?) Anyways keep up the good work! And make a level editor. Hamish was working on one a while back, it makes life so much easier on everyone, (im sure you know that though). Oh and try and through in a truck that you can drive w/ the Newton physics. That would be awesome!

Hey if anyone talks to him, tell Hamish I said hi. I don’t have his email anymore.

Btw, hawkeye! i cant believe your still on these forums! its been forever!

Lol ill stop puting you to sleep with my friend reunion now

Still here and still working on getting the web site up. There is a problem with the service provider that is being ironed out. If need be, we can open a temporary forum on the OMMORPG site, and then copy over whatever is needed later.

Quote: "Where did the blackout webpage go? or is the project dead maybe?"

It nearly died, and the web page was hacked to death. As stated, we are trying to get a new site up and running. We do have an SVN ready to go.

It looks like we are not going to be able to get the site we were hoping for. I remember a few folks offering to host... any volunteers? Maybe someone can get us up on SourceForge or FileFront or somewhere?

yeah, he's hosting a site for me, all we would need would be a domain name (could use a .uni.cc if worst comes to worsts)

unlimited bandwidth and harddisk space.. +Plesk access (supposedly that's nice but i don't really know haha)

Unfortunately, I would need to see someone else take the lead on this one. If folks aren't willing to step up and even 'ask' for a website, then I can see I will have a lot of work ahead of me.

I could do this if you wanted, but I figured you'd kinda be helping to get things started rolling, since you probably know more about this than any of the rest of us . I'll see if I can contact him after school about hosting. Would a subdomain be okay to work with? Or do we already have a domain name? Just let me know what we need, and I'll be happy to help!

A subdomain would be okay.
I will help, but I want to make sure it is "help" and not doing most of the work. To demonstrate this, a few folks need to step up to get this started. Besides - this is the easy part.

lol allright! I think we all just assumed you would do it without really even thinking about it - sorry! Okay so I'll shoot chris an email and see if his offer is still out there. One other question - do we already have a 'template', so to speak, of the website, or is that another thing that needs to get done?

I know very little about putting together websites. I suppose that is something that needs to be done.

Just to let everyone know, my help so far is that I've put up the money for 6 months for an SVN so we have a place to have a consolidated source code and media.

We can work from here. We can post code. We can email media or find a temporary site to upload media to. Then the media can be uploaded to the SVN. Basically, while our own site would be very-very usefull, it is not critical.

glad to hear it's changing servers though, the last one had.. err.. issues...

looking back at some older posts "hi!" offered us hosting here

And you can transfer your domain if you wish by pointing it to my name servers unless you want youdomain.fireproductions.co.uk subdomain . Just email me at mail@fireproductions.co.uk if you want me to host it"

if it turns out chris can't host us, then we could e-mail him...

RiiDii, if need by Vectra Media can host BlackOut for as long as is necessary. We're a small game developer, mainly producing text based and 2D games, but we have our own set of servers that can easily handle the demand.

You can get in touch with me @ ross@vectramedia.net, or via MSN sayyan@darksigns.com

You'd have full control over the site through CPanel and if you'd like I can set you up a demo account before you make your mind up.

Full MySQL, PHP as well as Fantastico, allowing you to automatically install most forums, wiki's, CMS and such.

Sounds like a plan SirRoss. I sent you an email before reading your post here. A demo account sounds like a plan. But again, I know almost nothing about setting these things up, so I am going to have to rely on you word, and any other recommendations, anyway. Let's start by getting a leadership team started. Anyone interested in a leadership position, please post your nomination, which should include a brief summary of qualifications. Then the generally interested community can "vote" on their leadership team.

Some suggested leadership positions:
Core of Three: 3 people that will represent the highest level of leadership on the project. Time requirements; expect roughly one hour daily dedicated to the project.
Moderators: Forum moderators that help keep the forum neat and tidey, and spam/hacker free. May be asked to organize media or code files.
Officers: Positions like Lead Coder, Lead 2D Artist, Lead 3D Artist, Lead Animator, Game Design Administrator, and so forth.
Assistant Officers: Seconds to the Officer positions. Or can be delegated to specific functions, like: AI Coder, Weapons Modeler, Building Modeler, Music Specialist, Sound Effects Lead, and so forth.

I will start by nominating myself for a Core of Three member as I have already offered to take a leadership role in starting this project back up.

As a second nomination, I will nominate myself as Lead Coder.

I'll put myself forward for the Core; although Im' not very well known around these parts, I have extensive experience of managing teams of people, from the Vectra Media work. Oh, and I'm able to dedicate myself a lot to this project.

In terms of the website, I can design and set up all of it, maintain it and administrate the forums.

I've knocked together a quick website, still needs a lot of work and such, and a proper name would be extremely useful; but everything works fine, you can sign up and start things moving as I can always just move the database around.

[edit] Whoops, there's a last page. My bad

Wow, the new site looks great! Thanks SirRoss!

I guess I'll nominate myself as Assistant Coder and Game Design Administrator. I also plan to be regularly contributing 2d and 3d art, but don't consider myself to be the one to take the lead for any of those.

Also, just a thought, does anyone in our current group of contributors have any extensive experience with the newton physics engine? That would definitely be very helpful to have.

Okay, I believe my work here is done.

I have only just started working with DBP; my main two areas are C++, Texturing, a bit of modelling, and conceptual work. As well as website design and management.

But I believe I'm picking it up fairly fast, the first bit of code I wrote was a object control system using the mouse to look and direct, and W and S keys to move around, with the camera following in 3rd person.

I intend to bring myself up to scratch then learn Newton.

One thing we really do need is the original media and code, TreborGuy said he had it, and I've e-mailed him about it but no response yet, so we'll just have to hang on. If the worst comes to worst we can always start from scratch, it might even be good to do that even if we get the code. It's always good to look at things with a fresh perspective.

The main key will be communications; using the forums, IMs and shoutbox as much as possible to communicate with everyone. Over the next few days I'll be putting up some guidelines in the forum, just so we don't get totally confused.

EDIT: Also, I won't be putting anymore screenshots up in the gallery until we know for certain we're going to be using that media, and that design. Currently it's just to test that my gallery, and the image code works, as it's just stuck onto the side of SMF.

Okay, yeah, I had thought that we were waiting for Treborguy, but I wanted to clarify and make sure.

As for the screenshots, don't know if you were aware, but even when I'm logged in, under the gallery on the left column, it says I do not have permission to view pictures. Just wanted to make sure you knew about that.

Also, we're still waiting for response from Peter H on all of this. I wanted to give him a chance to see how involved he's planning on getting on this. If he doesn't want to, then I'll step up as a core member, otherwise I'll let him or someone else more established in this community than myself take on that role.

Thanks for pointing out the permissions, I'll fix it now.

EDIT: Okay fixed the permissions, and your account is set too coder; if you become a core member you'll be made an administrator, then if your a Lead of whatever, you become a global moderator. as a coder you would get moderation powers over the coding boards.
Make sense?

whoa! stuff started happening the instant i stopped checking the thread! thanks for the hosting SirRoss

@H4ck1d- Starting in january (i'll be backpacking after christmas for about 4 days) i should be able to contribute about an hour a day to this (on average, maybe more or less some days). I don't really care if i'm called a core member or not, so it depends how much you want it... i don't suppose we could have four core members?

anyway, glad to see we finally have a host, who's going to be web admin\designer? is RiiDii doing that?

Four core members is hard to get a tie breaker. After that, you start having trouble getting folks together to decide on anything, so decisions get made without core members, then core members feel left out. The alternative, of course, is slower progress, and who wants that? So, three is good number for a core leadership team.

SirRoss is our webhost/admin/designer.

Let's give folks about two weeks to step up for the positions. In the meantime, I suggest that Peter H, SirRoss, and myself take on a temporary two-to-three week role as core leaders. During this time, we will have no say on the project or its direction. Our duties are only to be limited to establishing the organization of the project. After the two-to-three weeks are up, we should have a vote as a community on the leadership roles.

To get things rolling; any objections? Silence will be taken as assent.

I am excited that this project is underway again. Let's keep it up.

I'm totally in agreement with you, all makes good sense to me; I have a lot more ideas on how to get people involved so I'll set up a members area on the forum where we can discuss everything.

Make sure you register on the forums, then I'll give you a temporary position which will allow you to see the development board; in there we can discuss the organisation, find out who wants to help and what they can do.
