Sooo, your going to buy the 360 because it has better games than the Wii, even though we have no clue what Wii games ( , hehe) will be like until e3? And what's the DS doing in there? It's a handheld and there's absolutely no point in comparing it to the 360... Why isn't the ps3 in there? Sorry, but I'm kind of missing the point of that vid...

Quote: "PS3

Yeh, 'cause it's not like Revolution would have been called the Rev or any other three letter abreviation...

Funny, I just read an interview, they decided on the name Wii after a year of thinking of names. The logo is awesome, but Wii... that will take a while to catch on. It's a stupid name, and it will always be made fun of, but you have to give it credit for really standing out... even after the puns wear off, it will still stand out, just like the system itself does.

I think Nintendo will really, really lose out in this generation. This new (rubbish) name is just another step in the wrong direction. The Wii (I feel silly saying that) is too different! How can Nintendo believe game developers will make games for their system, when they can sell pretty much the same game on two different systems (360, PS3) and get a bigger profit? Developers will be forced to chose between trying to come up with original ideas that might not go down well, or a known-to-work idea and guareenting some sales.

Hopefully with the crazy controller it will force developers to think outside the box that they've been too comfortable in for almost 2 decades.

That's my point - will developers really want to bother to 'think outside the box' on a machine that'll probally have the smallest market share out of all of the next-gen consoles?

The Wii is kind of a hit or miss. Either all the developer are going to be as exited about the innovation as the ones who are already making Wii games ( ) sound, or they'll be too comfortable with the standard control setup do try. But considering how much less Wii games ( ) cost to develop and how easy they are to make, we may end up seeing games come out for the Wii at the speed games come out for handhelds.

Really, it could go either way. Developing games from the ps3 and 360 is going to get as expensive as making a full feature film.
The Wii is really a developers machine, and acording to Nintedo, the controler is actualy easier to deveolp for that a standard controler.

We'll just have to wait until E3 to see whats going to happen to the rev- I mean "Wii".

Well, personally I would rather make some games for a cool controller than spend an extra two years on each game. The graphics are becoming silly. Halo 2 took ages to come out, and THAT looks very dated.

Personally, I'd LOVE to develop for the Wii. However, whether I ever do or not depends on the company's publisher.

Pros: It'll be cheaper and faster to make games for the Wii.

Cons: It'll probably be less likely to sell Xmillion units.

So, it depends on whether our publisher wants to try to support (i.e. advertise etc) smaller cheaper games, or continue to finance big one-offs that take 2-3 years to write.

I think we should judge the console on how it plays, not on the name. I'm sure a lot of us thought Xbox was pretty stupid at first...

I'm looking forward to getting my hands on Red Steel...

an FPS with that controller would be awesome. And the driving game Nintendo are devving which isn't Mario Kart... excitebike perhaps?

Wow, can you imagine one controller in each hand for a FPS and a weapon in each hand. That would be sweet--- maybe moving around with the buttons on the gun, and just blowing things away with both hands. Cool.

I don't see what's so amazing - arcade & home lightguns have been doing that for years with many games.

And if both weapons are in both hands, how do you wallk?

I just said: walk with the buttons on the gun. Those controllers have buttons on them And I've never seen an arcade lightgun game where you play with a gun in each hand.

Well.....that was thought of the xbox to...but look at halo....
I will agree I thought the xbox sounded awesome.......but er...im not gonna say the name again...the revolution doesnt have as good a name now..

As for a controller...if I had as much money as mircosoft I would have a virtual reality system....with ways to track the movement of your feet and how fast you can run....
Be on a pad type thing that senses that...also hand gloves or guns etc. Made for guns...such as holding a model of a SMG or somthing for Halo 3. And a little tiny controler for movements such as doing back flips and such.

...which would be ridiculously expensive, and I would hate to have to put on a suit just to play a game. No, Nintendo has thought of the best idea by far with our current tech level. The Wii will be the greatest consol to date from a gameplay perspective, which is far more important to any real gamer (or at least should be) than graphics.

Honestly I love everything about the Wii except its name. Heck, I was annoyed when the current generation came out with pretty much nothing new but better graphics, and I can't really say that the 360 or the PS3 strike me as very next gen... They’re big, ugly, and not much different than this gen aside from multi-processors and super-graphics which I'll probably buy for my pc next year, and for the moment I can play close to that quality anyways.
On the other hand, the Wii seems to have jumped the gun and skipped a few generations in gameplay, and this is the first time ever I've felt that there is a consol which I can't do better for on my computer.

It took me about three days to get over the name Wii, but now I'm back to being exited about a consol which looks like it will change then way gaming is viewed forever, and all I can think of is, finally.

Get over the name. It's stupid... so what?

I just read that this may be a diversionary tactic against Nintendo's competitors. Everyone's talking about the Wii, and *not* the PS3 and Xbox 360. Genius, really, considering Japanese people can't even pronounce wii

You can't really say it will catch like iPod. Apple had a thing going with iMac and other i-things. Xbox sounded really dumb when it was first announced, but it made since because of DirectX.

I sincerely hope people keep talking about the name up until E3, then Nintendo puts up a killer showing and blows the other outrageously expensive consoles out of the water.

History shows us that the least important part of a console's success is its name. Infact almost all the winning consoles of the past have lame names such as Playstation.
As for Nintendo's decision I believe even if the change was inevitable at least the timing should have been better. Revolution name have been around for a long time and it was accepted by the gamers.
Wii! Very weird. I heard that it couldn't be pronounced even by the Japanese people and the English speaking masses can't easily decide how to spell it.
My offer:
spell it as "WHY?"

Klu and Jeku you're right but how long will this work? This kind of tricks can not be effective against tech specs comparisons and near billion dollar funds that guarantee software developers and publishers' support.

We can not discuss the name Playstation after all those years. Now that it is so much more than a name.
When it first came out it sounded odd to say the least but now after all those years the words making up this name aren't important anymore. Nowadays many people call all the game consoles as Playstation as it was for Atari in the late 1970s and 1980s.

Well English is not my native language but to tell the truth I thought it was lame from the very beggining. Maybe its just me.But other than its name I was very optimistic (today it sounds funny but Sony was new to this field and Nintendo and Sega reigned) about its capabilities and future.

I remember when the Dreamcast name was unveiled, and I was thinking it sounded incredibly lame (with the spiral logo, etc.)

But nothing is as bad as Wii that I can remember. We already know the Wii is going to be way less powerful than its two competitors, so Nintendo may need to pull this kind of stunt to stay in the press.

Well, what ever the reason, The Wii still impresses me far more than the other sysetms... Personaly I think they chose the name because it sounded nothing like a game system, and they are trying to atract non-gamers. But honestly I've stopped caring about the name. E3 is just around the corner, and I'm far interested in seeing how the Wii really works than how stupid people think the name is.
