You kinda left out, "Game must be a platformer" for the basic rules.
There are too many compos going on right now. Wait for some to end, then start this one.

DC emulator code size: 9MB. Compiled: 4MB.
Overall Status: 20% done. CPU: 80% (no floats), RAM: 10%, GFX: 0%

Well id o know someone who just reads the boards who's intrested and i'm sure some people with some spare time will be

Also updated the rules

No point and click apps

So that means source code doesn't need to be public just emailed to me or another judge... (With media)

So let me get this straight--- we email you the code privately and you turn around and modify it and sell it under your own brand?

Hmmm...

I would consider if I didn't have to submit my source.

yes, it may be better to not have to submit our source code but to insert a splash screen at the game beginning for sponsors.
Also, the sponsor image must be provided before the competition start to be sure this sponsors is not some sort of irrespectuous/illegal ad... that may give offense to the original game author.

The code and/or media will not be resold, it will be (possibly) be redistributed at no cost. Much like the free games you find on sites like albinoblacksheep or other sites which use submissions to drive traffic. My motivations are really no different in concept. Credits will remain intact or credits will be added where they are due.

@Alquerian : which payment method will you use to pay the prize cos, depending on the methos, only USA people (cos you're in USA apparently) cans participate ... if you pay using system like PAYPAL, everyone in the world can submit.
It may be defined in the competition rules

An answer to those who wish to know why we would like access to the source:

I would like to have the source for reference purposes, also if any modifications need to be made, they can be done so without having to go back to the original developer. The developer(s) may include their credits if they do not mind being represented. They may also opt to ommit their credits.

Firstly, I would have hoped for a more Organised contest at the start, simply because we are having to provide source code and there is prize.

So I want to clarify a few things.

-Can I use any engine? As long at it uses user coded script. By your specifications would Torque be acceptable, considering I think trying a platformer would make good use of things I am learning, however, programmed entities and models and langscape are placed/edited in an editor and collision/physics is pre programmed.

-Does media have to be original? (saves me time on textures )
-When does it end?

-Also the only source I can provide would be such things as pick up object, GUI commands, AI, Weapons, Particles, to actually provide the full source from C++ would go against my liscence

But please provide more info around those and well everything.

@Musashi

It ends 30 days from the 10th entry
edit - You can use 3rd party plugins as you see fit.
The compo is open for any engine/language that your heart fancies.
Media does not need to be 100% original, but cannot be copywrited material. Please be as original and creative as you can though.

The source code thing is the only thing bothering me here, I would like to see perhaps only the winner have to send their source for verification, after all then you at least got $200 for it. Quite frankly if my code is just going to get posted somewhere, I am not going to provide my best code so forty people can just plug in their own media and say they have a game. What is to stop anyone who reads the code (not talking about the judges, talking about if they post it somewhere) from adopting it as their own and credit for my work goes out the window. I post alot of code for people to learn from already, if this becomes a standard in compos I will have no code left to call my own

Submitter's source code will not be posted anywhere. The only thing that may be redistributed is the executable. If anyone does not wish to have their code stolen or plagerized, do not post it publicly, email it to one of the judges. Rest assured

As Musashi said, I wanna test my directX capabilities, so, can I code in C++ with the directX SDK? If I can't or I'm not advanced yet, I'll do it in DBPro. Also, I aggree with the rule that we just set a splash screen of the sponsor(s) instead of sending the source code.(don't know if this have been already fix). But I don't mind sending my code, but there only some file that I couldn't because I don't know if I can send them.

I find it extremely hard to believe that this person is willing to cough up 200 smackers for a platformer's source without any economical return. He just joined the forums, it seems like a scam to me.

Of course! But I'm gonna keep it simple for now, I only just got my Torque book.

My Current Ideas -
Simple Platformer, where you have to collect items to reach the end of each level...however there are evil little deadly creatures trying to stop you, as in any classic platform they kill you on touch (so sinister!) You can either make your way around them with out getting hurt, or simply, shoot them with your rocket launcher, thats the vantage point, but there will be parts where killing them won't be so easy. All stuff I should be able to do and almost already know how to do, so hopefully I can get a few levels into it and I'll probaly post screenies with test media. But I'm afraid, the enemies will not be babies

Alquerian, you're a crazy guy to give up that much money for a contest like this. Good for you.

However, the source code thing makes this a no-go for me. My best code is private at the moment. I wouldn't want to make a game with anything but my best, so my concerns are simply incompatible with the rules.

Good luck with it though. Hope you get lots of entries.

Musashi, you just gave me an idea. My plateformer will be, you are a little thingy, (aven't decided yet) and you need to collect keys to open door. but those door are guarded by guard. You need to find a way to kill them ( there no rocket launcher.) you'll need to set the trap that are in the level to on to kill those monster and proceed to the next level with the key. That is my idea.
