I tried your game but I keep getting an error. I have the December 2006 DirectX and running 1.04 RC6 of FPSC.

Here's a screenshot of the error.

Obviously it's my system since almost everyone else is running it.

I will fool around with it some more and see if I can get it to work.

*EDIT*
Nevermind. It seems that I didn't have my Hardware Accelerator set to Maximum. Works fine now.

Beat the game! Very nicely done. Though if you plan on making a commercial game in the future I'd reccomend not using backgrounds and videos from real life imagery/recordings. Felt out of place + might have copyright issues. Just a heads up

Thanks for the tip. I agree, and I am trying to make almost 100% of the media in my next game.

Guess What time it is...IT'S REVIEW TIME!

*Cue Crappy Intro Music*

Ok so here is how it is gonna work, this review is being split up into several sections. Pretty Standard stuff.

Graphics- Darkest Island is a very pretty game. It is aided by several of the offical model packs and some media from around the forums. The textures on the walls in some areas are what really impressed me about this game. The cutscenes were also done very well. *****

Sound- The gun sounds were amazing! This is mainly due to the use of Model Pack 5. The voices though were a little sub-par. Overall though, it was a very enjoyable experience. ****

Gameplay- This is where Darkest Island really shines. I have played a lot of games from these Forums, but this game is the only one that I truely enjoyed for more than five minutes. There were only some minor lag issues at times but this can be contributed to the engine. The story, all though it was kind of fragmented at times, kept me hooked all the way up tiull the end. The "big" Twist at the end was complety unexpected. I also enjoyed the fact that during Part 2, I started to run out of ammo on certain guns making this game more difficult. My one true complaint though, lies in the length of the game. It was way too short for my tastes. Being a FPS fanboy, this game was way too easy to provide more than 30 minutes of gameplay. ****

Pros- Great Graphics, Excellent Gameplay, Interesting storyline.
Cons- Sub-par voice acting, Too short & Easy.

Overall- This game is a must have for all who play FPS games. It has offically set the bar high for future games made with FPSC.

Score (Out of 5)- ****1/2

I appreciate your comments Godrich. I agree that the game was too short. My brother was rushing me to finish it by Christmas, so I had to ditch three levels that I had started on.

Well Luke, I would be interested in helping you create an extended version of the game if you ever want to. I enjoyed this game quite a bit.

Im getting a similar problem that other people have had.
I downloaded and installed the game (is there a specific folder to install it, i wouldnt think so). When i click new game the game nearly finished loading to start but then exits out to my desktop.
I have directx 10 december edition and I have updated my radeon 9600 driver and restarted my computer. Still the same problem.
Any help?

The game is great but I don't know how to finish the level in part 1. In Chapter 4, when Daniel sees the green grassland, he dies and get into the bottom of the lift. How can I get out of it? Please help. Overall the game is excellent.

I really really enjoyed that. Great work, great fun. The AI tended to be a little disappointing, but frankly, I'm quite happy about that - meant I could complete the game!

Thoroughly enjoyed the cuts scenes and the developing storyline. Loved the ending, very satisfying.

If I have one criticism, I think it would potentially be in the area where you are warned to "watch out for snipers". I'd have thought the weapon of choice for that area would be the bolt-action sniper rifle. But it ain't. Not an especially useful weapon at all, with its long reloading time and its minimal stopping power.

Don't want to comment too much on the game itself as I expect other people will download and play this, and wouldn't want to spoil their fun with spoilers. So a few general comments must suffice:

I thought the voice-acting was adaquate, the level design was excellent, and while there were one or two bugs or oversights - such as the transparent door mentioned in an earlier post - there was nothing that prevented me from proceeding through the game, or especially diluted my enjoyment of it. I didn't suffer any lag worth mentioning throughout, which surprised me, since I've played other far less-involved demos that've slowed up considerably on my machine.

Save/load worked fine, no problems there. I agree with Godrich13 that the game was too short - I'd have happily played the other few levels you had to cut. =) I also agree that you've set a standard in quality and professionality. Great job. Thanks very much for letting us play.

You have inspired me to make my own game. I am determined to create a game that does everything that this game does not. I am still playing this game over and over. I think I am going to write a strategy guide for this game!

Holy crap..that was awsome. 9/10! Best FPSC game I have ever played.

The story line was very nice and kept me playing the whole time.

The voice overs weren't bad, but you could use some practice

The whole zombies falling from shafts in the ceilings thing was awsome. I was freaked out the whole time thinking something was gunna pop out at me!

The videos were really good! I can't say the same for the real life vids though..they didn't really fit lol.

There were a few bugs, such as the "invisible door" and on level 4 (I think) where you came down on the lift, if you got off and back on it would take you back up and you get stuck lol. I made sure i saved often incase i got stuck though, so i was fine.

Overall I loved this game and I hope to see more from you!

(zomg this is my first post in like half a year or something lol)

Thanks for the compliments!

The still screens were made in photoshop and shown to the player via a storyzone.

The cutscenes were put together in Windows Movie Maker.

As for that glitch, I haven't heard that specific one before, but the FPSC engine has been known to eject people from levels before for no reason...

I'm just curious...what program did you use to make the cutscenes? I've been using fraps, Adobe Premiere and Adobe After Effects.

Yep it's crap. I hit an 18 or 20 every so often. But it was usually around 4-ish. It was still an awesome game. The cutscenes were sweet.
