Maybe the Emo Stunt was a idoit remark but i guess that you didn't read about 50/50 chance of death, and you know what it'll be like without moon dog on the forums! "

I don't think I've ever said anything to you before, but you act like I constantly attack you. The 50/50 chance of death was even more idiotic than the slitting your wrist remark, and yes I did read it. I have no idea where you got that fact from, but it's not even CLOSE to the truth. I even thought you were kidding about it, but apparently not.

Well said, which is why I got on to Deathead about his comments.

Have you ever been in the military, Deathead? Have you ever been to War? I have.

Telling someone they have a 50/50 chance of dying is more than a stretch. We've had well over a million people cycle in and out of theater, with less than 3,500 deaths (American) so far. You do the math.

^That figure isn't very accurate, it's alot more i think because it doesn't take into account soldiers who are killed or injured in any other way other than a direct bullet or bomb. A soldier who dies while being transported to a hospital, a soldier who dies while at a US military base, and then soldiers in the U.S. Army who are not U.S. citizens (and from what i've seen, that is many people) aren't counted.

So my guess would be alot higher. Still though it isn't anywhere near 50/50.

Actually the count of fatalities in Iraq does include soldiers killed in training accidents, choppers that go down for mechanical problems, heat stroke, and anything else that has caused a soldier to die.

As for threat in the Navy, the US Navy is so far beyond compare it's laughable. 7 super carrier fleets for the US, 1 for the rest of the world. the only Navies that come remotely close to being a mere thorn in the US Navie's side are our closest allies. You have a far better chance of dying in a drunk driving accident here in the states then to perish in the Navy.

@ Grandma: I have no idea as to where you get your information from, but it is seriously inaccurate.

Quote: "then soldiers in the U.S. Army who are not U.S. citizens (and from what i've seen, that is many people) aren't counted.
"

That is also incorrect; whether a soldier in the US Army is a citizen or not (and I have know a few), makes no difference to the official count.

@ Hobgoblin Lord & KeithC

I should have read the fine-print on the site saying "take this with a spoon of salt". I was kinda unsure about the info as it seemed to be coming from only one site, but took the risk, it was too early for research on my part and i'm very sorry for contributing to disinfo, if it's something i hate, it's disinfo.

Quote: "Anti-war and anti-American propaganda perhaps"

Since it's obviously false the information i read earlier, then it serves no other purpose than to be used as propoganda, so it probably is.

Hmm, Keith really how can i do the math if the other figure isn't there.LOL
But my guess is probably by the way you are all saying is 10% of death and 20% of injuries and 70% chance of life...Hope this figure is true because if not don't go "stop this idiotic" remarks.

To All, Including Gil,
I'm Sorry if i have annoyed with my stupid idiotic remarks.

You can. He said 'over a million' for the sake of it, lets call it a million - Minus 3,500 deaths. leaves how many - then divide it down until you've got a ratio that looks nicer on the page. It isn't 50-50 at all (I leave someone else to the maths, mine is unbelievably awful)

Indeed, you gotta be careful with those sites, some have some truth, others none at all - I haven't seen any with anything that's 100% true or completely feasible (sp?) For goodness sake you get so many weird people making up some random connections and coming up with an explanation it can be untrue. *cough* David Icke (I think I'll relate to our idea with the robot Jesus we had over MSN)

Don't worry about it, mine was stupider, afterall i read something on the internet, and believed it for a moment. I guess it was too early in the morning.

update: i did some small research just now and found several sites actually supporting that "information", but only one of them want to give up their sources. and low and behold.....404 page not found.

Okay, i just came over an interview now, i haven't listened to it yet, but the site claims that a "Mark benjamin" is featured in it and he the source of this apparently false information.

I'll listen to it and do research on him after i get something to eat, if there's some truth in this, i wanna know it.

source: http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=04/11/10/1537224

Edit: lol, robot jesus 2000! HE'S REAL! David Icke said so!! And as we all know, David Icke is a VERY CREDIBLE source of information!

It's alright, Grandma; I try to get my info from multiple sources, then draw my own conclusions (I try to stay away from FOX News though ....personal choice there). Things are much more volatile in Iraq now, than when I was there in the Spring/Summer of '03; though I've just re-enlisted in my local Guard Unit and they haven't been re-deployed since then, so I suppose we may be due to go back.

@ Deathead: Actually 10% dead would mean we'd have taken around 100,000 losses. Of course if you break down the number of actual KIA (or otherwise) by specific branch of service, then those numbers will shift dramatically in favor of the Army and Marines. Unless you're a SEAL (of which the last number of fatalities was less than 20 so far) in the Navy, or a Combat Controller in the Air Force.

Realistically, MoonDog has a better chance of getting in a fatal car accident than dying in combat while serving in the Air Force (except the Air Force would give him better death benefits for his family ).

No problem, I didn't mean to be so harsh, but making false remarks in a serious situation like that made me annoyed . Your estimates are a bit closer, but I still think they are off. I'd say more like .5% chance of dying, 5-10% wounded. Only 3,500 US soldiers have died in Iraq, and probably close to three quarters of a million have been deployed. I may be off, but those are just my guesses.

EDIT: Oh, and that's just the army/marines, Navy would be even less considering they see a lot less action.

Edit: Sorry, i don't favor Fox that much.

There, now it's just a simple opinion.

Heck I keep away from anything owned by Rupert Murdoch (except My Space - they all follow the same sort of pattern, but I don't use that as a source of information) at least BBC news is still reliable and The Independant and the Guardian.

Never got into MySpace, Facebook, or any of those sites.

@Grandma,
Thanks for the e-mail. Sorry I didn't read it sooner. Your a great guy, really cool of you. Wish that I would have been as nice to you. Funny how entanglements can bring people together. I won't forget that. I have a lot of respect for you. Thank you.

Edit: to be clear I made some comments that I really just saw no use in editing. Got defensive, and rushed to judgement. Defended FOX news like I was Bill O'Reilly and on their payroll. Bunch of conservative views that had no place here.

Q. @Grandma: Where do you get your news?

I don't live in the US so naturally i watch norwegian news boradcasts, i also watch Al-jazeera abit (THE BRITISH CHANNEL!), but i use internet the most, there i can look at the alternative media simply because as you said, for the real 'tough' questions. I also use the drugde report sometimes.

Lately i've been using Digg, i like the system were users can vote up stories they like so many people get to see it.

*I left this bit because i wanted to make clear that i'm not watching the middel east version of Al-Jazeera. Sorry, should really made that clear the first time.

Edit2: No problem Zenassem, you gained my respect aswell.

@Seppuku, I listen to BBC from time to time. Quite informative, and interesting. Wish we had a broadcast station that mirrored the BBC here. None comes to mind though!

Edit2: For the record, I actually went on a rant here. No use to the discussion & highly political in nature. Embarassing, and Over-reacting and defensive.

We have hit a no no on these forums that would recieve a slap...So as the saying goes 'Stop while you're ahead' - I hope what I said cleared up the reasons for what I said about [x] and that I'm still keeping an open mind to it.

[Edit]
Material removed for the sake of not furthering discussion - Not so much political by more anti-Rupert Murdoch media - enough to cause poltical discussion though.

Moondog, I hope everything takes a turn for the better. Just remember we are all here for ya. Best wishes!!!

Edit: Went on a political rant. Not of any use here, highly dramatic and over-reaching.

Way to go, let's get politics dragged into the centre of the debate, ohh hold on, wasn't this thread about Moondog's money troubles?

Maybe one day you guys will learn that it's not so much the contrasting opinions that are the problem, it's how you let politics take presedence in other peoples threads, and also the fact that most of us don't care about someones political opinions here - of all places these forums should be free of this crud, it's not even an American forum FFS.
