Another update - here is one of pharaoh's bodyguard. Nothing fancy about the screenshots, but notice just how good the lighting is from the latest beta, you can really notice the direction of the light source.

He'll be holding an egyptian battle axe eventually.

Now, here's a bombastic Cleopatra! Her boobies jiggle when she walks - download a really nice high res video in divx format, 6mb: http://www.hyrumark.com/cleo.zip. Nothing fancy, just 20 seconds of her walking back and forth, and you can see how pretty X10 makes things in motion.

I gots to have the jiggly boobies, every other game has them, and now X10 will too. When I see how the final melee system works, I'll give her a dagger and a nice stabbing animation too.

It is daytime, and great god "Anubis" guards over his temple just as he has for centuries:

Soon the sun will be setting will be setting, and Anubis must be banished to the underworld:

To guard his temple at night, Anubis summons the Undead Warriors of Isus:

And now, a must have for an egyptian game, the MUMMY!

Now he's really pissed off, you'd be too if you were eternally cursed:

Awesome, one thing though, the hands seem to be chunky from the side but slim and longer from a straight on view.

And check out how X10's water is used in this shot, to simulate a polished marble floor! I can't believe I didn't think to do this before... Notice the character's reflection in the floor, as well as the walls and ceiling.

You can really get some subtle lighting effects, like how light shines off the headress.

Thanks guys! Yeah it looks REALLY cool in motion...I just set the water level at floor level, turned water color and smoothness to zero, and played around with the fresnel slider to get the desired glossiness. Now I want to make a Perfect Dark style, ultra-modern office complex...with flourescent office lighting reflected in the floors!

Come to think of it, I didn't get the splash decal. Which you're right though, you would expect that. Weird, maybe having it right at floor level is in no-man's land? I didn't notice the sounds either, although my volume might have been down.

Now I'm curious, I'll have to go check that again.

EDIT: Yes, the water sound plays. Oh well, it's still a cool effect, and I'm sure with some sound tinkering someone will make a hack.

Great news! Lee is considering removing the splash decal and sound when the user sets the water smoothness and color sliders to zero. That would be a great way to have reflective floors without any "hacks".

Thanks again everybody.

Question...

Why in all of the FPSC X10 previews is water used? I mean, there must be other features that are worth showing than just water all the time.

Well it did show ragdoll.

But yeah this thread looks nice and I loved THE MUMMY. Both movies.
Your models are pretty awsome. Now just a Imhotep model would make it perfect!

All those models are looking very very awesome!

But a question.....

Will they have a different set of animations?
And will they have their own weapons?
Like:
Staff,
Scimitar,
etc etc...

Also are you planning on making more egyptian style models?
So not only Character but also static entities?

Sorry if this is rude.

it wont happen becuase that would mean that they would have to make a playermodel...plus they would have to code all that new stuff in and what not... maybe if they did that, that would be for the best, but of course, as many things else it wont happen, atleast not at the release.

In that way we already have "mirrors": the water in X10. Plus this could easily be faked in many various ways.

That wasn't a mirror, it was two (mirrored) identical rooms next to each other with a hole in the wall

One of the oldest tricks in the game world, even the Duke3D "mirrors" were based on this.

But with modern technology it is possible to create realtime mirrors that actually reflect the area in front of them in real time. Max Payne 2 for example already had these, and it was a DX9 game. With DX10 I'd expect similiar effect to be quite "easy".

These require separated "cameras" to work and can be memory consuming, but the effect is nice, and can also be used to create something like surveillance monitors etc.

Thanks And just to clarify, these are segments from Model Pack 8, and the characters are mine. For anyone that's on the fence about Model Pack 8, I can say it's a very well made pack, even the editor thumbnails are well done.

I've got an awesome character coming up soon, I'm tempted to show renders, but I'll wait until it's properly ready for X10...if I can pull myself away from Bioshock long enough to finish it up.

The models are looking great! Can't wait to see your next one.

Sorry to drag this off topic, feel free to delete this post if so required, but I'm getting a new PC very soon, for FPSC x10 and I also want BioShock too. Apparently it needs a monster of a PC to run? I mean, the graphics look phenomenal. What kinda specs will my new PC need to play it well?
Once more, sorry to go off topic.

Thanks.

I'm pretty sure Bioshock will scale well for any decent PC. But if you want all the eye candy then you need a fast PC. I have an Athlon X2 dual core, Geforce 8800, and 2gigs ram. I get a solid 60fps most of the time.

The screenshots don't do the game justice, and the characters are surprisingly low poly for such a new game. Also I noticed some really sloppy character rigging too, surprising for a retail game, maybe they ran out of time... But taken as a whole, it's probably the best looking game I've ever played.

Thanks Bond!
Those are pretty much the specs I am getting. I'm getting a
Dual Core AM2 Athlon 64 5200 2.6GHz. I'm not quite sure what all of that means but I am told it is quite good.
On top of that I'm getting an 8800, though not sure which one yet, my budget for the graphics card is around £200.
And RAM comes down to however much I have left over, though it wont be below 2gigs, hopefully 4. (The motherboard has space for 8, so I'll add more at a later date.)

So with any luck that will play it as well as yours! I really love the look of the game, the FPS with subtle hints of RPG, and I have a thing for Art Deco, and a thing for abandoned, run down places, so it's pretty much my perfect setting for a game. I never thought I'd see a game in Art Deco, didn't think it'd quite fit, but I have been proven wrong, SO wrong. xD
However, I am not usually a big fan of horror games, I normally steer well clear, so it is a fantastic achievement for this game to be able to drag me into it's splendour despite it's horror themes...

Roll on Rapture!

Thanks again!

Me too! I'm really into trains, and I love the whole art deco era of trains and train station terminals. They really nailed this look in Bioshock. The star of the game is really the environment, it's a living breathing environment that decays all around you. You'll be standing in a room when all of a sudden it will spring a leak, and water will start falling from the ceiling, or spraying from a leaky pipe, it really draws you in.

Good luck with the new pc.

I like all the 40s and 50s bars, the fancy hotels, the architecture of the era. They could have so easily made Rapture completely uniform, all bunkers and metal everywhere, almost 'Zion-esque'. But they pulled it off so brilliantly, managing a perfect balance of all of that with the luxury of an upper class 50's society.
I don't know why I'm telling you this, you actually HAVE the game! xD

Anyway, I'll stop dragging this thread off topic now.

have you downloaded the art book?

there's some cool concepts in there, you should take a gander, at one point they had an idea for a weird chipmunk to be the little sisters

i just ordered the game, cant wait to play it, looks fantastic, i also love that 1940-50 style, to me it sort of mixes past and future styles.
