I think the parental controls are pointless. If you are a responsible parent, there is no need for it. And most of these tools are very easy to change.

Of course rather than just changing the XML formatting file you could just turn off message logging in the MSN options..

why would you hide conversations from your parents?
why would your parents want to know what you are talking about?
I remember this one time when I jumped over a fence.

Bugger, that's very restrictive and crazy in my opinion, no wonder you're a lost cause. Personally, I think parents shouldn't do that, it actually tends to turn out for the worst...jeez you got to have your privacy man - my parents didn't do anything like that when I was growing up - what I did with my time was none of their business and the freedom let me become my own person.

Not saying they're bad parents Jordan mate, but that makes them sound pretty strict and very mistrusting. (I always think when you don't have trust in your kids, then they're not going to express any patterns of true trustworthiness.)

But to be honest, do you really have anything to hide to make this scrambler and to undermine your parents (I mean, sounds like they don't trust you enough, for whatever reason it may be, but undermining them like that would problem make them even tougher...but I don't know, as A-It's not really my business to know what your parents are like and B- I have a very tiny piece of information about them and I'm coming to conclusions based on that.

And to Daddy's name and credit card details...make it a bloke blow up doll and he'd have a lot to answer for .

Don't take me seriously, that sort of thing would get you into a hell of a lot of trouble with your parents, no matter how amusing the concept is.

So what you're saying is, they turn it back on to read your XML files, and when they see they're all-of-a-sudden scrambled they won't be suspicious and get you in crap anyways?

And you could just download another IM service...

Jordan, I hope this really doesn't have anything to do with your new girlfriend.
One thing you don't want to mess with it's with your parent's trust in you, especially in this time frame in which you have a new girlfriend, most probably your first girlfriend.
If you have to talk about something which is nobody's bussiness but you and your GF, talk it over the phone, or school.

So what're you trying to hide? If you ask me, you shouldn't be trying to hide something behind an obvious "this isn't working page". Your parents will see that and realize you ARE hiding something, and probably find out anyways.

If his parents are smart enough to turn the message logging back on, they'd have tapped the phone lines too. And school is never a safe place to talk.

My advice, Jordan, is to give whichever one of your many girlfriends you want to talk to a note telling them to scan through the radio channels at a certain time of day while you sit outside their houses and talk into one of those personal radio emitter thingies.

Wow, that was a long sentence.

HAM radio. Just spend the next month learning it and teaching it to her. Then you can talk all you want.... unless your parents are scanning frequencies... I'm getting the feeling your parents are pretty good with computers and such.

Darn it, I never thought of that! Well, you could always hand write a letter, scan it, save it, and e-mail it, then delete your computers memory of scanning anything and eat the letter! Then you could delete the evidence of the e-mail and format your hard drive. Then you could erase your fingerprints from the keyboard and dump the letter into the toilet (details not required) then clean the toilet with unstable chemicals then destroy the toilet then go over to your girlfriend's house and do the same thing. Then disconnect the hard drive from her computer and bring it on a plane in/out of the US and get it confiscated and dismantled and never seen again!

Man, I'm good at fooling the authorities.

Write the letter with non-toxic ink. Touch the back of your throat and barf it into the soon-to-be destroyed toilet.

Before I clicked that link, I thought 'one-time pad' was a place you took a girl to get lucky, and never returned to again for fear of her finding you. That's how I interpreted it.

(I'm not even joking).

um, there really isn't any need for that, all you need do is remind them who chooses who's nursing home... they'll soon see things your way.

Just get an IM service without IM logging. Id est AIM Classis (doesn't have it I don't think). I like trillion, but that does have it. Or, you could just go to FreeBSD or Linux and put a password on the messenger program so they can't get in. Use VMWare or something to emulate Windows so you can continue with game development.

Jordan, I don't know what you could be hiding from your parents?

If you know its nothing big and they're just being over-protective, tell them "Mom, dad, i thought you loved me... i thought you would trust me.. and give me privacy... i thought you actually loved me... " (Yes use that smiley face there)
