I've decided to make the Chua circuit. The PCB layout is finished, time to etch it.

eevblog!!! I used to watch him all the time, until I sadly lost interest in electronics. I'd assume theComet is going with SMD--it is indeed pretty straightforward if you have the equipment, which I'm sure he has. Also, that PCB layout has SMD pads.

Yep, all components are SMD. The quad opamp (N1) is in a TSSOP-14 package (i.e. ridiculously small with only 0.65mm of space between each pad), all other components are 0603.

When etching by hand you unfortunately can't get any smaller. Trace widths smaller than 0.3mm will usually disintegrate entirely, and you have to make the via holes huge (>0.9mm) because manual plating doesn't get any smaller than that.

If you order a PCB from a professional provider, you can get as small as 0.15mm for traces and 0.3 for holes. Those cost a fortune, though.

It's kind of hard to stick with it if you can't do your own experiments now and again. It's a lot harder to get hold of electronic components and equipment these days. I guess that's the reason why a lot of people prefer software programming - your entire lab is virtual and portable.

Ooh, well I could do my own experiments now and then, but sooooo much procrastination prevented that. I actually have a drawer with anti-static bags full of various through hole ICs and a breadboard, but I forget what I got all of them for like a year and a half ago. Procrastination is also the reason I lost interest in programming. But hey, architecture has taken over my interests now, and I don't procrastinate as much in it as I did with programming and electronics. So that's good.

You eventually get used to it.

I tested the circuit and it works! The following is a measurement of the output pins X and Z in an XY plot using a digital oscilloscope:



I'll see if I can make a video of me measuring it on an analog oscilloscope. It'll look a lot better at real time.

I have finally gotten around to teaching myself some electronics. After a few days of work, I have controlled an RGB LED, some servos and a ultrasound sensor using my raspberry PI.

It's weird how once you find a good tutorial as a starting point, learning new things related to it become really easy

Well, I have one that's 1920x1080 but the one that I use for browser windows and stuff is only 1280x1024.

And man, monitors are expensive.

Well when the forum pushes them over 100-200 pixels they're quite large on a 1280x1024 screen.

Maybe not on your screen, but mine's only 768 wide, and with the profile bar to the left, the image is shoved over another 200-300 pixels. I still stick with the older standard size of 800x600 for forum image posts. Guaranteed to fit on almost any screen (even mobiles).

I will say that the one thing I like about the mobile revolution is that it's forced websites to hold back and scale down a bit. One thing I hate most is when website-creators just don't even bother to optimise even one bit, or when they just use Flash for everything. At least they can't do that if they expect the website to work on mobile devices.

Yeah... why? 1360x768 was a common res a few years ago. Still is for laptops. Gimme a break, the monitor only cost about $120 brand new. LG Flatron. Despite common belief, a lot of people haven't reached 1080p yet.

Anybody in here ever done a GPU revival [Bake]?

If anyone has not but wants to try with a worthwhile GPU, see below...

If anyone has and would like to have a go again, see below...

I have a lovely 9800GT 512MB GPU sitting around and I would hate to throw it away, I know it can be revived by bake method, it died a year and half ago or so and just getting round to sifting through old storage... I can post up pictures soon if anybody was interested...

I also found some old games like Might & Magic games and Darkstone and some others on Disk [You know those shiny disks?] which I may use as prizes for competitions in the near future nothing serious, but a better way to get them into more suitable hands than getting a few pennies down the local multi-hand shop...

Anyway let me know I can post up specs of the PNY GPU and model if anybody is seriously interested, you just need to cover postage costs...

I also will have a bucket load of old wiring for audio and video etc. and power adapters if anybody might be interested in those as well send me a PM...

I might make a thread about everything if it is ok... will only be looking for postage costs as such... [Might just post stuff in here tbh]

Are you sure it's 768 wide? Because in 1360x768, it's 1360 pixels wide and 768 pixels high.

Bake at 350°C for 11 hours.
