Only when you post a near-empty post. Notice the post after that where you have more lines... the sig appears near the bottom

Heaps of cool stuff arrived today!! I got me FPV camera, my GPS module, my ultrasonic sensor and most surprising of all, my ESCs! AND my transceivers are at the post office now (man, Toll Global is fast!) and my brother's driven in to pick them up This means my quad should be somewhat flyable today or tomorrow, depending on fast I can solder and program (and whether I can get my FPV camera to display an image on the TV for more than a fracion of a second )!

FINE then.

-----------------------------------------------

MY QUADCOPTER'S FPV WORKS!! HUZZAH!

I've just spent most of the afternoon trying to get it working. I first hooked it up being extremely careful to get the right voltages (because the transmitter is 12V but the camera is 5V - the TX is powered direct from the 3S lipo but the camera runs through a linear voltage regulator), but when I powered it up it wouldn't work. Shortly after that I discovered I had the wrong AV channel on the TV (*facepalm* I haven't set up an analogue TV in years), but then the video only displayed for a fraction of a second each time I powered up the TX. After hours of searching it turned out that the RX and TX channel-selecting dip-switches are not the same; channel 4 on the RX is all switches up, but channel 4 on the TX is first two switches down and last two up. What idiot thought THAT was a good idea??

Anyway, I now get crystal clear reception at about a foot from the receiver - my TX isn't that portable yet

I also got my ESCs soldered with bullet connectors (which took a fair while but I got a lot of practice soldering bullet connectors - and I learned that having a fan on to blow away fumes also kills the heat on a 25W soldering iron ) and heatshrinked so they look really good now.

My next task is to work out where I'm going to mount my ESCs and then program a basic flight controller on my Arduino just to get the thing in the air!

Maybe someone could develop a drone for this purpose that costs less than $20,000 to make?

Awesome, I ordered my FPV gear today, I hope it arrives before the weekend. (which it should).

As cool as it is, I don't think autonomus "drones" are anywhere near ready to be used like this. There are lots of videos of quadcopters loosing GPS signals or something similar and just go flying off in some random direction. Manually controlled drones is a diffirent story though.

Clearly TheComet sold his soul to the mods in a past life, binding him in a contract that limits him to a very specific maximum number of unique signatures. He's simply reached his limit, and it's far beyond the abilities of us mere mortals to truly understand the complex nature of what his soul-binding contract entirely entails beyond an erased signature.

I urge we come together and hope for the safety of TheComet's everlasting soul.

I can't figure out why this isn't loading my level file into the program

Anyone have any suggestions? When I print debug info to my screen (using "DidLevelLoad" and the length of the brick array to see if it actually stores anything in there), I find there's nothing stored in the brick array. I hand-wrote my level file, this is what it looks like...

If you can, step through the loading code and see what's happening.

If you can't step through in AppGameKit, print values as it goes and see if they're what you expect. Check that total rows is what you expect to to be. How are your values delimited? How does AppGameKit expect them to be delimited?

I've tried a bunch of different ideas for loading the level and it still isn't even trying. I've set the folder, I tried another file, and I tried Indicium's idea, but nothing appears to be working.

Oh well. Hello again, Unity.

And yes, my dear Cheesecake, I did indeed used to go by "CoffeeCoder", a moniker I found rather fitting, but I eventually decided to go back to my original name of "Yodaman Jer" because I liked how it flowed better. Plus I was so used to it.

Pretty sure that's the problem. As far as I remember, AppGameKit writes and reads in binary mode, thus calling ReadInteger will want to read the first 4 bytes of the file (32 0d 0a 30 , 2 CR LF 0). If you want to do ReadInteger, you'll have to write the ints to the file in binary mode.

Budo speaks the truth, you will need to either write the file in bytes manually, or read the file as text using readLine or something and then parse the values you read.

Ah, ok! That makes sense I suppose. That would be why it's loading nothing, because it thinks there's nothing to load, so it's skipping the for-next loop totally and just exiting.

I suppose now would be a good time to work on the level editor in order to save the level files.

Yodaman, i would recommend using a .CSV format for this.

What happens when you accidentally miss or delete a line? You start reading in values that don't match what you expect them to belong to, bricks will starting getting strange positions and colors, and because there is no distinction between brink entities, it will be difficult to track down where the data is missing.

With a CSV, each line is a distinct brick, it is easier to find a missing brick or a missing field.

A level editor is great, but it's still nice to be able to quickly read and edit a plain text file when you want to

@Ortu:

Indeed, a CSV format would definitely be better. I'm not that great coming up with that sort of code though, in fact saving/loading data values has always been my most complicated subject with programming in general. It's always eluded me.

No, but you did get a post. It's sort of similar only it doesn't actually have any meaning or worth.

My next task is to work out where I'm going to mount my ESCs and then program a basic flight controller on my Arduino just to get the thing in the air!"

I have a friend who just finished a quadcopter and I'm looking into building one myself I helped him tune the PID and oh my I can't believe the results! I've got to top it

Awesome, more people . Make sure you know how to fly it before spending all the money building one
