Yay!, happy GH3 day - been looking forward to it, in fact if my 2 pre-orders don't arrive today I'm going to go buy it, it's been one of those weeks!.

GH3 is quite a disappointment actually. So far the music is good but the new fretboard and interface sucks big time. The fretboard is in a different angle so my timing is way off but it also takes away some of the feeling since the notes aren't coming at you any more. The notes are also smaller and darker so they are harder to see. I'm getting 4 stars on most songs on hard, that says something about how off it all is. The new score counter with the multiplier is harder to read while playing and that goes for the rock meter as well. The star power bar (well it's not a bar anymore) is horrible.

I didn't think it was that bad... The only difference I noted that threw me off was the fact that the fretboard buttons were black with colored rings, like the new controllers, as opposed to being solid colors in the last few GH's. The rock meter is a bit harder to read though... I've had no trouble keeping it in the green except on raining blood and a few of the bonus songs. *cough* dragonforce *cough*

Hyper speed X3 seems to do it for me with the timing, mostly. Still the notes are too small and too dark and the feel just isn't the same.

Ouch. The boss of the game is near impossible for me on expert. I've been trying on and off for three days with no luck.

On a happier note, I just got through 67% of Through the Fire and Flames.

I'm still stuck on Raining blood on expert, I can't beat the "Flood" solo at the end. And the intro on Through the fire and flames is too fast for me...But I can get 69% of the notes in practice mode.

I've noticed that the sound quality is not as good in GH3 compared to the other 3 games (GH1, GH2 and 80s). It sounds like a massive pack of noise rather then music, it doesn't sound as sharp. I also don't like the boss battles.

BTW, I got a book in front of my TV to get a better angle on the fret board, this helps a bit.

Overall I don't have as much fun playing GH3 as I've had any of the previous 3 games. I think it's mostly the sound, it's actually boring to play.

I started to notice a background humming noise in GH3. I switched to GH2 and there's no noise. Anyone else get that in GH3?

Nope.

@ Venge:

To do the intro to "Through the Fire and Flames", I hold down the green fret with my left hand, strum the first note with my foot, then tap the rest with the other 4 frets with my right hand. The rest isn't very hard until a bit after the synth part. That's where I lose.

Anyone here have rock band yet? Just got it yesterday! It's crazy awesome! But I'm almost done with expert for the guitar Not quite as hard as I had hoped.

The drums are sweet. THe new guitar is also awesome!!!! It's got two sets of five frets, the ones that are closer to the body are smaller "solo-frets". If you get to a solo (the game will tell you if you do), you can tap very single note with the solo frets, even the chords. It's awesome.

There is Rock Band for PS2 as well so you don't have to get a 360 just for the game. However, if you are getting a 360 anyway you want RB for it (and GH3).

Just joined the Wii Classic Rockers group, seem like some okay guys. Now I'm getting serious, I aim to prove my virtual awesomeness, if I can break the into the lower thousands I"ll be happy, I'm an awesome gh1 and 2 player, but 3 is breaking my face .

By the way, raining blood is the easist song by far.

I really like playing One, damn it's long though!, it's like the GH3 equivalent of Free Bird. One thing that is REALLY nice is the free download of the Halo theme, that is something I hoped they would do.

I wonder why they don't support the GH2 download songs in GH3, you'd think that they would do that to increase sales of the packs, I doubt there's any difference in the format they use.

I don't like the characters so much this time around though, I mean Judy Nails looks like a crack whore now - sometimes less detail is better.

Much agreed, judy looks terrible, awwwww you have the halo song...grrr, I want to play it wahhh lol .

Indeed, or if they brought the song "guitar hero" for download, I know fans of gh1 that love that song, myself included.

I'm still an Axel player myself, they took my favorite one though 'Clive', not fair not fair, now I have a stupid fat elvis player.

Played with a friend yesterday and couldn't detect the humming noise. It might have been because GH3 is mixed with a higher volume then GH2. My friend agreed with the bad sound quality, it sounds a bit like if you put a speaker in a jar. It might be that the music is mixed for 5.1 systems, which can separate the sounds better. All I got is a 19" mono TV. I'm gonna try my 5.1 headphones later.

Zombie 20:
Raining blood IIRC is the hardest song on Hard, not beaten Lou yet though so 1 song remains. Now I'm playing on Expert.

Van B:
Don't know how detailed she's on 360 but her 2nd outfit (School Grrl) is more like her old self. Can't see if she's pierced on PS2.

Raining blood's easy? now that I wouldn't have expected... Slayer have more than a little speed in their music... obviously in this format it might be easier but I would have still thought it would at least have ranked as high as songs like One, although that is a fair bit longer...

well they are in the last tier and mosh one is the hardest part in the song but after that its one of the easiest and it takes not but a half hour to an hour of hard practice to get it down.

Raining Blood was very difficult to beat on expert, I actually only beat it recently. 'One' was fairly hard, too, but not quite as hard. Lou is just about impossible. I've tried about 20 times now, with no luck.

'Impulse', by An Endless Sporadic, is probably the most fun song to play in the game.

Just checked; on the leaderboard within the game, I'm ranked at 2,197 on Expert, though that's only players with LIVE.

Ya, I'm going for 2,000 right now too. I've five-starred 33 of the career songs, and about 10-15 of the bonus songs on Expert. I still can't get passed 67% in Through the Fire and Flames.

I know Van is playing on 360, what systems are the rest of you playing on?

I was to tired to play yesterday but I plan to play a lot today. Aiming for the A league after all and I need to enter my week 1 scores before I leave tomorrow. A is the easiest Expert league on Score Hero.

Yesterday I had my first real GH3 marathon. It was also laundry day but I bought a large frozen pan pizza so I didn't had to worry about cooking. Here are my current standings:

HARD:
5-stared every song in the first 7 tiers, except Knights of Cydonia
7 stars remaining on regular songs
5-stared every bonus song from A to I, except F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X.
Not beaten Lou

EXPERT:
5-stared every song before Even Flow
Stuck on Cult of Personality, my hand couldn't take anymore last night
Wussed out on Slash

I've finally found my new favorite rocker. I used to play Judy in GH2 and 80s but since they totally destroyed her in GH3 I had to change. I don't like Casey Lynch's slutty normal outfit but she's smoking hot in her tight Mo' Leather outfit. I use the Black n' white style and the Alpine White Les Paul custom. Only thing I would change is the height of her boots. I've missed a few notes during the close-ups

This morning I had that noise playing again. It's very noticeable, but apparently not always playing. I played Cult of Personality on Expert a bit and then switched to F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X. on Hard and had no noise.

Zombie:
The top players on Score Hero are above 24 million points. This is for all 70 songs though. Here are the top Wii scores.

If anyone is interested in playing in the GH3 league on Score Hero it's not too late to apply yet. Check this out.

Week 1 - Scores Due at 11:59 PM EST, December 1st

The Expert songs are:
Closer
Anarchy in the U.K.
In the Belly of a Shark
Raining Blood

The Hard songs are:
Closer
Paranoid
Go That Far
Black Sunshine
